this is making me want to give Fitzgerald another shot- i don’t think i fully appreciated his writing when i was reading him in highschool but those extracts you read were so beautiful?? doesn’t sound like the fitzgerald i remember and thought i hated at all. omw to waterstones to buy the beautiful and the damned 🏃♀️🏃♀️💨💨
I loved “this side of paradise” - I feel like Amory’s conceited personality is actually extremely charming lol so your description of the protagonists in“the beautiful and the damned” appeals to me.
Great review dude! I was taken totally surprise. Great Gatsby is the only one iv read. But it’s also my favourite book of all time. So I was super stunned when I saw you put the beautiful and damned above it. I’ll definitely check it out and I’ll let you know what I think!!!
Thanks so much! The best part of making this video is that I've convinced so many people to read "The Beautiful and Damned." Let me know what you think of it!
I truly don’t know - even after all your effort here - which one to start with, after _Gatsby_ (the only one I’ve read & which I love). I guess I’ll just try to pick up all the ones you’ve mentioned, & wait for something to inspire me.
If you haven't you should check out The Chosen and the Beautiful by Nghi Vo. A retelling of Gatsby from Jordan's perspective but also there's magic. It got me to read Gatsby for real again to spot the connections.
Wow really? I genuinely thought Jordan to be one of the better side characters of the novel whose story just gets lost by the end. I'd be interested in seeing how magic is implemented into the "world" of the novel.
@@mattsbookshelf4084 It was really interesting reading the original after Vo’s looking for metaphors that became real via magic and other ways that her story fits neatly into the original without contradicting it, expanding on it in interesting ways.
As someone who has only read Gatsby from Fitzgerald, you've inspired me to read the rest of his novels this summer! Thanks so much for the video. 👍
Thank you! Glad you liked the video.

Sweet! I really hope you enjoy The Beautiful and Damned. I have also changed my mind on plenty of authors I hated in high school!!
Good review, hope your doing well. I appreciate your thoughts on the books, very informative.
Thank you! I'm particularly happy with this video.

Excellent! You should definitely enjoy "The Beautiful and Damned" then!

Thank you! I'd recommend The Beautiful and Damned, but absolutely go with whatever inspires you.
