I had straight A's in school. I took every math and science class there was available to me. I was planning university education but couldn't afford it. Turns out- that wasn't a bad thing. I missed out on 5 years of student loans and instead earned a living for those years. That put me 10 years ahead of my friends who came out of university and ended up working next to me in some cases because the couldn't get work in their chosen field. So, yeah Keith. Teach your kids to work hard and to look for the opportunities. Be flexible! Your boys have talent. That's clear. Anna is already taking charge. Kate is going to be another star.

I know exactly what Keith means. My brother went to college got his bachelors and masters. I joined the Army right out of high school, over time became a warrant officer and got involved in Risk Management. Without spending $1 on “higher education” I easily make upwards of 5 times my brothers annual income. In fact I subsidize him with a annual housing allowance so he doesn’t have to live paycheck to paycheck. Keep doing what you do Keith

I 100% agree with your advice. Been homeschooling 10+ years now and neither of my kids were told they have to go to college. One is in college to become a nurse. The other is still in high school. We have also loved all the closeness homeschooling has brought us as a family. I get the sailing lifestyle and would love to do it someday. Really enjoying all of your videos and thanks for sharing your lives publicly.

Now, I am making sure that my kids will not follow my path rather to look at opportunity and be street smart about it. This is help them in the long run so I'm glad that I am on the right track with my kids when I hear you said the same. Thank you and stay safe!

My Dad always told me that the "A" students teach the "B" students how to work for the "C" students. I did go to college and graduated top of my class with top honors. I often think it did nothing for me, but in college, I learned to be a badass illustrator. Now I am taking those skills and putting them to work for me in a business that will continue to pay me as I take to the water on a sailboat. That said, I didn't need the damn degree to do what I am doing, and I wouldn't recommend anyone spending money on college unless you need to.

Grades don’t necessarily show that you know what you need to, only that you can jump through someone else hoops the way they want you to. Grades also don’t determine your character, work ethic or even how smart you really are and in most cases, your grades only matter in school. After that when you graduate, they don’t matter. Your job isn’t going to care what you got for a GPA, only that you got your degree and anyone can do so by doing the bare minimum to graduate if they wanted to.

These past 50 yrs, going to school (high school thru grad school); students get indoctrinated into what the school wants you to know, not what the world is or how it operates. Nailed it. The A students generally always work for the B and C students. Learnt that off Robert Kiyosaki. I have also found this to be true. Left school the day I turned 15 but never stopped learning. Retired at age 48 after creating my own business pretty much from scratch. I think your strategy is perfect for ensuring that your kids grow up into fully functioning independent adults.

@@King_WhiteWolf I was a tradie. Roof plumbing was my game. Made it my business to become the best that I could be. Thus, I never competed in the market place. I became a price setter rather than a price maker. Became known for solving seemingly intractable problems. Leveraged my income into property. Ended up with a large industrial complex which underpinned my business. Now those rents support me and my endeavours. Not that hard. If I can do it then anyone can.

@@philbox4566 Hi Phil I wanted to sincerely thank you very much for responding! Your answer helps a lot, as it adds affirmation to my belief that property has very real potential as a vehicle to building a foundation of wealth. I don't by any means view it as an easy way to get rich (I think that mentality is a total pipe dream), but as being something I can legitimately understand and something I can get my foot in the door of.
Your mention of the trades also is very relevant to me, and I wondered if you might entertain another question? For context, I actually originally wanted to build the base of funds necessary to get into property by way of the trades. However I am somewhat restricted in what I can do physically because of heart valve issues which have so far required three open heart surgeries to correct (I'm 33 if it matters). This limits my ability to do physical labor, but not entirely.
My question is, given your experience in such trades, do you believe one with limits on physical exertion can still prosper in traditional trade labors, so long as he aspires for excellence in his work? I have doubted myself due to these limitations, hence the question.
Again, thank you for your time!

    • @philbox4566
      @philbox4566 2 года назад +1

@@King_WhiteWolf As far as tradesman type work goes. Working smarter always pays far more dividends than working harder. For someone with limited physical capabilities I'd think that that type of person should pursue a more technical type trade, think IT hardware.

Hi from California, Sailing Zatara I must say has been one of my favorite RUclips channels to date. I happened across your channel a few weeks ago and have been Binge watching every day and now I’m caught up. What an amazing Journey and wild adventure on the open seas and all the freedom to go wherever you desire. I bet you and your family have learned so much and seen so much in the last four years. I must say your kids are really lucky to have such great parents and to teach them what real living is like in different parts of the world. I bet your kids have learned so much more in the last four years rather than going to a regular public school and my hats off to both of you. I enjoyed motorcycles , so I opened a motorcycle school and my wife sold my students insurance for their motorcycles. She ran a insurance agency, and I fed her customers from my school. I also grew up in the gun business so I also ran a gun store for the last several years before retirement. Now my grown daughters work for themselves (3 of 4). They are all successful and are their own boss and live like they want. Travel, and real freedom is what you get when you work for yourself. Your time is your most important commodity and getting free time is key. Do your hobby for a job and you will enjoy your work day. Keep it up. Be safe. Dan

Just love y’all. So grateful to find like minded thinkers. So jealous of your kid’s upbringing. I ‘m 51 & finding it tough living in this country amongst so many narrow minded folks -my mom still suffocating me with that thinking. It helps to watch your videos & know these things I ‘ve always thought about are not crazy & there’s a handful of folks out there who also see the joy in not keeping up with or following the Jone’s, and instead create their own path. Your videos giving me a reason to smile & dream (again) of someday making out of this prison. Thank you! And thanks for influencing more humans (your kids & video watchers) to think outside the US expectations of the right way to “live” life. “Your comfort zone defeats your purpose.”

I really hate the expression, "Get a real job."
To me, a real job is doing something others are willing to pay you to do. So long as it is legal, it is a real job.

+Hi Keith, I'm one of the guys who ragged on you about the oil filters. Glad you cleared that up, no problem with fuel filters using old fuel. Love your show, I'm more of a flying nut than boater but love your show anyway.

I must say your comment about education and working hits home with me. I'm 35 yrs old never went to college and when I was 20 found a utility job that was safe with good pay but I didn't enjoy the work or people as most were miserable. After 13 years of the same repetition I decided I wanted to be my own boss and make my own schedule and future. Two years ago I opened a home inspection company and couldn't have been happier with my decision. Of course there's ups and downs starting any business but it takes guts to take the "different" path then what we've all be taught. I commend you and your wife for trying to instill that in your children. Best of luck moving forward and safe travels!

Absolutely agree. Education is just one of many paths, you don’t have to take it if it’s not right for you. You need to choose what path YOU want to take. Find your passion and become obsessed with it enough to want and know how to seek out opportunities to live your dreams

Amen brother, I am 3rd generation Oilfield and joined the service right after High School (had a little trouble with the law, hey its small town Texas). Anyway after 8 years and then back in the Oil & Gas industry (mid-stream) we are working hard to cross that point of having to sacrifice family time for pay to being able to enjoy one another. I am in senior management now and have young guys with college degrees under their belt, yet they still require lots of mentoring.......maybe some day common sense can be taught in a classroom....FYI I do have some guys that started out "Slinging Iron" and then went to school....those are my are my up and coming super stars.....you guys be safe, hope to see you soon on the water
