    The start up and drive away in the Beetle reminds me of the scene from Woody Allen’s movie ‘Sleeper’ ….where he wakes up 200 years in the future and finds a Beetle in a cave and starts it up…”man they really built these things!”
    I had a ‘67, and then a ‘74 Super Beetle…got me through High School and College.

    You just experienced a case of Super Beetle shimmies, they do that when the front end worns out with old bushings and tie rods. They do that when you reach a certain speed (35/40 mph usually) and they stop when you go faster. I know that because I have a super since 2002. That's a great car, hope it will be saved as a whole and if not, at least his parts will keep another one on the road. Great video!

  • @masonsmodeltrains6962
    @masonsmodeltrains6962 3 года назад +1

    That shaking you have is called the “Super Beetle Shimmy” the bushing on the control arms and sway bar are shot so you need to replace those and that would solve that problem. My 73 super had that exact same problem. It’s a very common problem with Super Beetles.

    Smart car changing it's battery post itself to gain more space :). These beetles always calls memories from my childhood, grandpa had one them late 60's model which one was not able to climb up to hills lol still i remember that engine's sound it was like it has constipation problems hehehe. Yours engine really running fine after all those years tho it sounds perfect, Video was perfect too, Christian works like a pro on camera, i think there is good gimbal on it, zero vib on the video. May i make a lil suggestion about that beetle, if you can handle the budget, you can make porsche engine swap on it also drive train, it will come with benefit but of course lots of body works too but there is nothing you can't do. You can find a old porsche wreck from junkyard probably. Then you can sell it to better price, Just an idea. Love y'all....

    I feel the reason supers aren't as desirable as regular beetles is because the McFearson strut front suspension isn't as good for making Baja bugs, but for roads I feel they are better because with McFreason suspension the beetle has full independent suspension, I've never driven a regular beetle but my super has always done good with roads, also looks like its has a case of the super beetle shake, all supers have them due to age, It was good to see you all give this little super a change to live again, their are great cars and truly have a mind of their own.
