That’s me! I was a Captain for Harbour Air/Westcoast Air for 12 years. Thanks for posting!
That's very cool! Glad I got a shot of you. That must have been interesting flying for Harbour Air.
What a fun job. Beats the semi truck I drove for 20 years. My favorite seaplane too. Happy trails
Can a plane like this transport a boat (23 ft, 2600 lbs) under the fuselage? Are there services that do this type of thing?
The plane that can literally go and land anywhere!!
One of my favorite classic turboprops of all time. I also like the Viking Air Twin Otter 400, although I haven't seen much of it since its introduction. My favorite of the post-modern Canadian de Havillands, though, is still the Dash-8 Q400.
The Q400 and the old Dash 8's are my favorites. One day I'd love to have a flight on a Twin Otter though. Thanks for watching!
***** You bet.
So cool. Thanks for your truly great HD videos.
+drbombay91765 Thanks for watching, I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
That is a beautiful airplane.... I love that configuration
I agree. I'd love to fly in one some day.
Engine starts, propellers and planes on water, with great sound...........Friggin awesome combination for an awesome video.......awesome man!!!!!!
Thanks so much, I appreciate it!!
That was Epic!! Awesome sound on start up!! Liked a lot!!
Thanks a lot, glad you liked this one!
Fabulous video! Great footage of start-up and take-off! Love that roar :)
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the video!
This is a Plane that I have lusted for most of my life.
Another really awesome video! Love the sound of that plane! Well done!
Thanks a lot!
Kick ass little seaplane... Love the Twin Otter
Wow, awesome stuff. Great video
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing, great Twotter video! You got yourself a new subscriber ; )
Great job I hope one day visit Canada
Thanks! I hope you can visit soon.
That was pretty awesome!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome aviation!
Another great video, I want one of those in my Island :)
Thanks! That would be very cool if you did :-)
この鋭い高周波のターボプロップエンジン音が、素晴らしい!!!This higher and sharpness turbo engine sound is AMAZING!!!!!
Thanks your nice video
Well done luxury city of west coast
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic waterplane video! Sounds like a jet!
Big like!!!
Sounds like a jet because its a turboprop. Basicly a jet engine driving a prop
Thanks glad you enjoyed it!
Nice video!
Thanks!
masterpiece of a shot!! would love to try my hand at flying a seaplane someday.
Thanks, I bet it is quite an exciting experience!
Awesome
Awesome catch mate! :D
Thanks!
Excellent video quality, and really nice to see this! Liked a lot:)
Thanks so much!
I love these high wing twins.
My favorite bush plane. Great filmed video mate. Liked a lot. :_)
Thanks a lot!
Great video, Liked! :)
Thanks!
Awesome! Big Like!
Thanks!
really nice :) !!!!!!!
Thanks :-)
Great video. Kind of surprised that the port engine is started whilst still moored to the jetty; that dockhand(?) seems to have to get awfully near to the prop to cast off the forward mooring. Also is it normal to take off with the rear mooring line trailing like that?.
Love the “Twotter ”.
Same here, I'd love to fly on one some day.

Absolutely awesome! I appreciate a good seaplane vid!
Thanks, I always love watching them when I make it to Vancouver.
2:36 best sound ever
Nothing beats the sound of some BETA!
Must have made a nice change for you to film this.....an excellent video...well filmed...Best wishes...Steve.
Thanks Steve, I always try to catch a few seaplanes when I make it to Vancouver.
Still... Music to our ears !!
Same here, nothing beats it. When that clicking starts, you just know something good is starting!
great sound when the prop pitch changes 2:36
Definitely! Thanks for watching.
🐓🍯⛈🤒
I love the prop noises. It's like medicine for my ears. While other people at the airport would cover their ears I'm like bring it on!
Perfect timing for this video because it seems that in a couple of weeks these birds are going to fly near Split (Resnik) to the Croatian Islands :)
That's very cool, hopefully you'll be able to get some video of them soon! I saw a few videos from the pilot who was ferrying the Twin Otters over to Croatia.
Nope, these are here to stay servicing the BC coastline! Not going to Croatia!
That's good image Canada
Beautiful! I always thought take-off distance would be a little longer with floats due to water resistance, as opposed to wheels. Not so, based on this video.
Ya, I'm always impressed with how little space the Twin Otter takes to get airborne. Truly an impressive STOL aircraft. Thanks for watching!
They call it stol. I reckon it does what it says on the tin. I think she was almost on the step before the pilot had full power on
Otters love water
Flown in thes gals in Alaska ! Great mach.
Love that twin Otter - have flown in them in AK and down in Chile. @3:20 - a log floating in the harbor? Would scare me as pilot - especially if I were landing.
+jserra17 Nice, I'd really love to fly in a Twin Otter some day. They seem like pretty impressive aircraft. I've noticed quite a bit of debris in this area while spotting, definitely not something you'd want to hit.
Could you fit a 16-17 ft Lund boat in there?
カタリナの濁りのある低周波音と、Twin otterの鋭い高周波音、両方無いと締まらない!!!
I don't know why but I love this plane. I find sea planes & flying boats "romantic". esp'lly when they have turbo prop engines.
Wow what a short take off, once the pilot gave it throttle that plane jumped.
It's always cool to see how little runway the Twin Otter uses, even on floats. Would love to try flying in one some day!
The left float water line is way under water compared to the right one. I would definitely inspect it....fuel tank empty on the right wing? Or a heavy weight passenger on the left side....
What would one of those planes cost,,,in decent condition?,,,,,or would you recommend something else?
Can it take off and climb with engine out on takeoff roll ?..full of people ?
From I've been seeing. In MSFS And irl, the cockpit makes a bleeding sound that sounds like this "EEP EEP EEP EEEEEEEEEP" post ignition
That's an interesting plane. I'm shocked by how little "runway" it needed to get airborne. Do these planes have foldout wheels in the floats for paved runway landings?
Ya, it's pretty impressive to see how little space these Twin Otters take to get airborne. Thanks for watching!
stol aircraft bro
The plane in the video has “straight floats” there is an amphibious version with retractable landing gear but they are much heavier so you can’t carry as many passengers (or fuel or cargo...)
Love these planes. Why does Canada fly many seaplanes ? Why is that ?
Lots of little lakes to explore with bush flying, and they are very convenient for the West Coast as well.
last time I saw west coast air their fleet was yellow, bit of a tone down in colour! I've booked a twin otter flight next time I go to Sxm, should be exciting.
That's very cool, where are you going to fly from SXM? One day I'd love to take a trip there and fly to St. Barts for a bit of spotting.
flight is to Saba, a small island with a tiny runway, I'll be going to St barts for a day by boat, flight price to bart is over 300 usd return for a 10 minute flight!
Dez Rosswess
Ouch, that is crazy expensive! I've seen videos from Saba, looks like a very exciting airport to fly into. Looking forward to some footage from the trip!
Always remember left engine is critical
I thought the props would turn in opposite directions, do both turn the same way here? Sure looks like it. 0:07 and 0:46.
glytzhkof Yes the both spin in the same direction, it’s some regular engine twins that have counter rotating engines.
Where does the sound change at 2:35 and 2:45 come from?
I believe it's the pitch of the props changing.
TheHDAviation the Twin Otter doesn’t have water rudders, so the only way to change our direction or speed is with propeller pitch angle and thrust (Forward/Reverse/Beta or Neutral)
Who left the rope hanging off the port side ski ,now flapping about behind the plane ?
toby london The rope stays on the heel of the port side float. When the aircraft taxis to the the dock the pilot heels in the port float, dock hand grabs the rope and ties it to the dock.
All Amphibian plane is good !!
wow is god
Is it legal to use this plane as speedboat if you have no pilot license?
What the fuck!?
No.
What the actual fucking fuck.
More general question. Do you have to have a pilot's license to taxi aircraft? I think the answer is you do not have to have a license as long as you aren't taking off.
You are legally obligated to follow the rules of the sea, right up until the point you get airborne...
All of a sudden I realized my volume was not all the way up, turned up volume, then re-start video.
That's good, hope you enjoyed the sound of the turboprops starting up :-)
***** Oh yeah, love all your vids!
how much is that plane worth ? $200,000 ?
A new Twin Otter starts at over $6 million.
***** wow really i had no idea,... i guess i need to keep saving,
+Vlad Prince of Wallachia For $200k you can get one engine overhauled.
What exact type of plane was that? EXACT type please!
DeHavilland DHC-6 Twin Turbo Otter w/ floats

Thanks

It must be weird as a pilot to have to think about bumping into ships
Mirandorl I've been told by some floatplane pilots that it takes just as much skill to maneuver the plane to the dock. They said the tough part is trying to be VERY gentle with the throttle when you're only a foot from the wooden planks. One pilot said he saw another airline make that very mistake and chaos resulted. The pilot put a bit too much power into one engine. The plane jerked into an unintended turn and banged one of its floats on the dock. The impact broke some of the supporting arms on one side. Because there was no support, the entire starboard side of the plane slammed on top of the dock and the engine was destroyed. Fortunately, no passengers or dock workers were injured. The poor plane was declared a total loss. It takes extra nerves to fly this plane AND taxi it properly. I have a lot of respect for bush pilots who have to fly these kinds of floatplanes into countries where airports are nothing more than boards on a bunch of old tires strung along a beach. My dad sees a LOT of these planes in the Caribbean since it's such a handy "island hopper." This plane is such a successful design that a company was founded to restore them with modern avionics to keep them flying. I find it interesting that so much has been replaced/upgraded that it's legal in some countries to sell them as "zero hour" (aka "brand new") planes! It's easy to spot them inside: they have tons of digital screens in the cockpit but they are still DeHavilland planes. If I could fly any plane, I'd love to fly a Twin Otter.
