  • Today, we have superb restoration for you. This is a 1968 Tonka Jeep, known as the "Dune Buggy". In the old Tonka catalogs this was also known as Model #2445. What makes this model so unique is that it was ginormous tires, compared to the regular Tonka Jeeps of the same time. This Jeep had the same exact body and interior as any other, but they utilized wheels off of the Mighty Tonka Series of toys, rather than the wheels off of the standard (mid-size) line. A couple years later, this model was re-introduced with the later style mighty tonka tires (XMB-970). Although we prefer the look of this older style tire, they are so much harder to separate from the rims.
We found this Jeep "Dune Buggy" while we were wandering through an antique store a couple months ago. It was sitting on the bottom shelf, along with a few other Tonkas. As soon as we saw it, we knew that we needed to feature it on the channel. Hopefully it inspires you to give these beat up and rusty toys a second chance. Feel free to sit back, relax, and join us as this old Jeep gets a complete restoration.
We also wanted to give a special shoutout to Cerakote and Prismatic Powders for helping out the channel and providing us with some great products. We have been using Cerakote way before we decided to post our restorations on RUclips. They truly have a superb product that works on everything from automotive trim, all the way to the windows and tires on our toys.
Prismatic Powders also has some of the coolest colors, and most durable powdercoats on the market. There is a suitable color for just about every project that you could do. Make sure to check out their products in the links below!

Let us know what you all think, should we do more of these Tonka Jeep models on this channel? Maybe do some custom LED lighting on it? Possibly something other than toys?
Hope you guys enjoyed the video; Please leave a like and subscribe. Give us some ideas for future projects, and with enough support we will continue to make content that you like.

How cool is that? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of these before. If I would’ve seen one of those I probably would’ve thought it was a custom, made in the sand box 😅 Great restoration Nix! Thank you!

Anything is possible my friend! We try to keep costs down as much as we can, but we recommend going to your local flea market and trying to find these toys. Our first videos consisted of just taking the toys apart and spray painting them, and if done right, they come out just like the powder coated toys.
