I gave up on ROC mining a while back because of pretty much solid issues with the mining head. Showing the bugs is a good idea and serves at least two purposes: potential new players can see the honest state of the game; so can CIG, and then we can hope they might do something about them sooner rather than later.
Reporting bugs to Issue Council is more effective than "hope". Try that if you want bugs fixed. More reproductions of a reported bug will increase its priority and get CIG's attention sooner.
@@Ru5tbeard The Issue Council is just another hope system, one where you hope you will get enough 'votes' for something to get attention in a closed environment - I have made use of it. Enjoyed the trading and agree that it never gets old to see your cargo in the bay. 38k was a nice profit. Cool to see my name on your MFD :)
I have not tested this very thoroughly, but I find that the arm usually activates if I press "m" (standard keybinding for mining mode) and THEN press the keybind for "Flight Ready". Just tested it today, and that worked for me. But, as with this game as a whole, your mileage may vary greatly! But the C1 is great though, eh? I'm in love with mine!

Showing common issues and workarounds is a great help. I have most of the easier fixes memorized with the C1 and general gameplay. But like seeing the sharing of useful knowledge.
I definitely appreciate you showing when things are not working. Playing Star Citizen is a struggle most of the time. To get the ROC to work, I go in to the menu and individually turn on the power to the arm and laser, like you did. Then I completely shut down the ROC and turn it back on. It worked for me today.
Somebody said below another video, that you can workaround this bug, if you start the systems via holding F-key and search for the option in the cockpit. Not using I-Key or U-Key! Works everytime for me since then. ✊
I'm glad you made a video on the ROC issues. I attempted to ROC mine around the same time you did and got frustrated with the same issues. And this was the first time I had got on in months. I havent played for most of 2023, so I was hoping things like this would have been already ironed out. Especially with how much money we dump into this game.
While in mining mode press U (unless its been rebound) to activate the mining arm, has been this way for me every time I've got into the ROC since 3.21. Other fun bugs you'll find (as others have said) is scanning markers disappearing/not appearing with a distance and one that happened often for me in the c1 is wheels clipping through the floor when parking. Great video as always anyways ^_^
Interesting. I just got done mining for 2 hours with ROC and C1. I had a moment where arm stopped working but restarting power to ROC fixed it. Guess I got lucky. Thanks for posting!
I never fly the same reclaimer twice. I have LTI on it. I claim it at Grim and land it at Loresville. I had a Reclaimer full of space gremlins. Nothing worked right. About a month ago I was consistently able to get the ROC mining arm to work by pressing one of those buttons next to the MFD's on the left side. If I remember correctly it was a really specific area you had hover near with the mouse for it to show up. Maybe it was even located above the physical buttons that you can see. I might test it again soon.
Just tested it this evening and it still worked. In my situation I only have to click on that "Power On" text on the left side. Below "Engage Systems". And also mining mode button key of course@@Farrister
This ROC bug seems to be so common yet nobody talks about. I had this bug almost everytime. I found that turning the arm and laser on and off with power MFD and then master power and engine power seems to "reliably" make it work again.
In the C1 you can open the cargo door from the inner thought menu before leaving your seat, saves you a lot of time since you can simply press the close door button right near the exit then immediately hop off the ramp as the door begins to close
When you mentioned that Herc and said you wanted to get a shift on in case that pilot beat you to the terminal and drained it of everything, I thought "No. No. That pilot is still waiting for the first door of three to open, they're going to be several minutes yet". Crusader doors, gotta love them, cos you're going to spend a lot of time staring at them and waiting...
I'm a fan of the honest footage at least for these type of gameplay videos. For Ship/Station reviews and demos it makes sense to heavily edit and make them sexy and attractive to viewers. Hell that's why I started playing SC. :)

I prefer the honesty, and perhaps poor press will light a fire under their butts and things will get fixed sooner than showing everything just fine. The just fine part can some after things work -- at least minimally. Thank you the the video!
I had the pleasure of a stowaway on my Pisces recently leaving Grim Hex. He tried to shoot me on the way out, but that's impossible on the Pisces. There is just no space to reach the pilot. I only noticed him when I heard the shots. I put him on his ass by rocking the ship, watching him though the open rear hatch in external view. He jumped ship when we got close to the next station. GG
Definitely like to see the parts of the gameplay that go wrong as well as the good stuff. Otherwise I think the bugs have it in for just me 😂. In all seriousness though, it’s great to see your troubleshooting steps. It’s part of star citizen gameplay and very useful for us to see.
The ramp opening. Look. . . . I figured out that once you open the ramp to exit, just close it from the same pad to close the ramp and jump off before it closes. Then you have prevented to the best of your ability stowaways trespassing on your ship.

The sure-fire way to fix the mining head issue is to enter the ROC power up with U and I, press M, head will glitch, then focus mode over to the power switch on the left side and press power on, this will fix the head l every time.
I re-tested mining on 3.22.0 for first time earlier this week with my Mole and noticed scanning markers would intermittently disappear as I got closer to some asteroids....another glitch I observed was the auto-scanning process for minerals was hit & miss. Had to move further away and then closer again for it to kick it. Eventually filled my ore coffers but it took considerably longer than on the previous patch due to those glitches.
I know that I'm a bit late to the party here but wanted to share my solution to the ROC issue. You will notice that the mining arm in the video is pointing straight up, which is the "bugged" position. There are problems leaving it like this for loading the vehicle into a Cutlass Black for example, because it will clip into the hull of the ship and damage the arm for starters. The way to prevent issues and use the ROC, is to cycle mining mode by pressing M twice immediately after you power up the unit. You will see the arm extend and then retract to it's correct position. Then to begin mining (seems only necessary the first time) press M to enter mining mode and extend the arm, and then press U to power up the arm.
I found that you have to turn on the mining system in the inner thoughts. Otherwise I had the same issue with the arm pointing straight up until I messed with toggling head tracking and gimbal modes.
After trying all the ROC mining modes and power the thing pressing u and i, try to also force it by pushing the buttons on the left panel while keeping f pressed and select power on. That's how i usually trick it. But that's definitely not normal so CIG better step up their game.
You never turned on the mining head. You hit the "flight ready" button ( with a keybind I'm assuming) and that turned on the Rocs main power. At 8:19 you used your mouse to click on "Engage Systems" (which just turned on the Roc). Just below that is the "Power On" button. Hit that one and the mining head gets power and will start working. I'm assuming this is an intended change by CIG.
except it doesnt work :( see STARC-75117 only workaround is manually power on everything via power MFD then repeat toggle u key power on/off and it might work, takes 6-12 or more tries to work once, then when powered off it breaks again
Had the same problems with the rover. It also doesn't fit through the C1 Cargo door frame when the mining arm is flipped upwards, which was even more annoying. In addition the scanning ping didn't work that day. Is it possible that bed-logging is buggered in the C1? Because it highlights the bed area but there was no selectable logout option.

Good to know, thanks
I had the exact same experience. Could not get the roc to work, even flew in my c1. The mining arm just would not move. I just left the roc right there and went and did some cargo runs. Must be a 3.22 issue as I mined alot in 3.21
Top tip from others seems to be to use interaction menu to fix things
You had the chance to not be stuck in the C1 roof while getting out of the roc, it is a random and common bug really annoying also...
Ahh bugs
In my experience, once the arm goes like that, it wont work, its quicker to go and exchange the ROC.. CIG, please fix this..
OK!
U need to engae mining mode ita on the left side. Where it is written systems. And it worka perfectly fine
A few people have suggested to try that, with interact, not hotkey
Not a great fan of FPS meself, but I am a fan of selling that armor for aUEC!!
Yes please!
Roc mining has gotten worse and worse since I started playing. Was my favorite casual loop to do back then but I've given up on it...
It used to be the top gig!
Why don't you use the garages immediately below the spaceport?
You know, I could have done!
Why is there rain on your helmet visor? Is there no glass in the canopy?
One of those age old questions, nobody can explain.
Going to try roc mining. Where is it better to look for hadanite?
Aberdeen is quite good iirc
what was the fps when you tried to mine?
i've had problems when server has low fps. Rocks not loading, not scanning, not mine-able. I think there was a video about what to do when the mining head points to the sky like that but don't remember where.
This is why i find roc mining so hard right now... you need good server response...
Could have been a rough server
@@Farrister that happened to me too yesterday.
I fixed it by power off everything. And press the power systems hud button on the roc itself.
Then the m key
As long as the miner arm is pointing up its not fixed
i have gotten back in star citizen after years of inactivity, so far i have not able to complete any beginning contract. either system just disconnect or some weird npc pirate kill me the moment i pickup some junk start loosing interest again
Any tips on getting a game session that isnt junk? 8 times out of 10 are bugged or i get 39k’d usually :(
I wish I could help, I've had bad luck this weekend
Bugs are half of the game right now. What a weird world it will be when the game is the game and bugs are just a harvestable.
lol
About the ROC: She's dead Jim.
Or just unresponsive... :D but what do I know, I'm a doctor, not a mechanic
''This is how it goes most of the time'', every game session has multiple bugs ranging from doors/ trams/elevators/UI/mobi/map.......and that's before you enter any major gameplay. You can change servers, its just a crap shoot. Im not moaning, its just a day in the verse, i only ever played 3 weeks a year until 3.19.0, yet ive been playing every day since and mostly enjoying myself, so somethings positive has changed for me. Game Stability is mostly a given, so with that it at least gives your gameplay a chance. I play for pleasure, sheer indulgence, i care nothing about reputation, career, or aUEC, as of yet, Pyro is my starting point for all that, ive a few accounts to build reputation and my gameplay loop.
PS: I have learnt to gather armor on any visits to mining facilities etc, to pay for any fines/C-Stats, 5000 aUEC usually gets easily covered per session, should they happen. I base myself out of New Babbage, nice port. Your vids are very helpful and relaxing. kudos
Yup, just how it goes sometimes! Glad you enjoyed :)
I was doing bucker mission and i cant pull the gun out 🤣🤣🤣
Awkward! :(
Does switching materials from the roc to the ship work?
If you can get them in the first place!
I like honest
:)
8:50 - Love weather made by idiots: -73 and it is RAINING!!! Rain in temp so low that boiling water freeze, or fog in negative temps, or droplets on windshield with speed of half of sound - this is magic (saddest part is i can go on and on about simple mistakes that every primary level child should know).
Space rain
I prefer Real gameplay because we all run into eh stuff? (Anti cheat) and it helps to see how others deal with it
Your wariness of stowaways is completely legitimate.
Perhaps!
first
Oh and love the video
Thanks :)
thought ROC mining was dead and broken
Maybe!
aphorite is bugged lol
RIP aphorite :(
show what it should be, the real and unedited. this gives furfure players something that they should expects to face.
OK o7
11 years later and the mining is still so bugged you have to move on to something else.
...Jesus Christ Star Citizen will you just get your fucking act together and lock down something, anything at this stage. 😠
Mining hasn't been in Star Citizen for anything close to 11 years!
Hundreds of years into the future. Almost unlimited technology. The ability to travel vast distances in an instant and DANG IT, we just cannot figure out how to create a REMOTE DOOR OPENER.
Haha, so true!
If ypur doors are closed, can other people open it or is it locked.
