    Rogers Centre (Skydome) in Toronto was the worlds first and only retractable roof stadium in 1989. It was build as a multiuse stadium, primarily baseball and Canadian football, but the Toronto Raptors played there, Buffalo Bills and many more. Because of the climate and multiple use requirement, Rogers Centre uses an artificial surface which has improved over the years but is still turf. Rogers and the city of Toronto are discussing building a dedicated baseball stadium on essentially the same site (just south) and tearing down the old dome. As much as I'd miss it, a modern, retractable roof baseball stadium with natural grass would be nice.

    Aberdeen FC are moving away from their historic Pittodrie Stadium within the next year or two. Another Scottish team Edinburgh City are moving in to a fantastic multi-purpose stadium called Meadowbank. They used to play there but they haven't played there in a while due to construction works to the new stadium. It looks fantastic!

    • @fnordy
      @fnordy 2 года назад +1

      Could be a while before Aberdeen move away now. Seems like it's been delayed quite a bit.
      Meadowbank is finished. I went earlier this season and it really isn't made to watch football. Fans miles away from the pitch due to the running track. The stand only holds 500 people and the front row view is obstructed by a barrier. Edinburgh are hoping to make it a better experience by January 2023 but quite frankly they couldn't make it any worse.

    You should do a video on NHL arenas. I don't know if they're technically recognized as stadiums but it would be a cool video nonetheless.

    It's amazing that "fans" put more emphasis on the stadium than the team. Hey...your team sucks, but you have a really nice expensive stadium.

      Why didn't they keep the San Diego Chargers Stadium be turned into a college Stadium ?

      @Padre619 3 года назад +1

      @@rp1430 it was too old, I regret never going inside but the facilities were too old and outdated for us to have a need to maintain it, it would’ve been good for the fans but impractical for the city and a waste of taxpayer money, also I think SDSU is the best competitive sports college in the county, that’s probably why they want their own football stadium

    I'm a final year Commercial Management & Quantity Surveying student at Loughborough University. I was wondering if you had any knowledge of the funding and ownership of stadia in Europe, or know anyone that would? Stadium subsidies (paid for by the government) are the norm in America but not so much in Europe. I'm doing my university dissertation on whether the taxpayer should pay for Everton FC's stadium (given the £1bn economic boost). I've had to change my title to 'The role of the public in European sport stadia funding'. So, Everton will be my main case study but will use a few more examples from around Europe. I was wondering if you had any pointers for departments/groups/people/websites/literature please. Or if you had your own views / perspective of possible routes I could look into.
    Examples of information I'd appreciate is around who owns stadia, the club or local government? Who pays for the stadia developments etc. Any example case studies would be great!

    Correction: The San Diego Aztecs do not play in Los Angeles (roughly 125 miles north of the college). They play in the San Diego area.
