    It would be really cool to see a similar video, but with the expressive E osmose. Especially using it with analog hardware synths!

    I have my Seaboard Rise 2 for a couple of weeks now and I LOVE it. Only using it with SWAM Cello and Equator, but there is so much to dive into and I can really see alot of use cases for this. It is just so fun to play and what comes out is very dynamic and interesting.

    Glad to see this topic being discussed . Both the Roli and the Osmose are killer MPE controllers. As an early adopter of the Roli, I prefer the Seaboard to the Osmose due to the slide and glide functions. Its does require some tweaking as controller, but the flexibility of the instrument is incredible. Loved the review!

    Very cool! I have a Seaboard and it is my favorite instrument in the world. I have never used it with a real hardware synth though.

    Very cool that you can control the OB-6. If you have the latest firmware chip in the old Matrix 6/6R and 1000 series you can do this trick as well. You need to dive into the CC# parameter list/mod matrix if you want to control filter, but at least without too much hassle, (and so long as the hardware and Seaboard match a max of 6 channels in MPE dashboard along with bend ranges) then it behaves as individual pitch bends, sliding on the Rise. Even works on my Rise rev 1 controlling my Matrix 6 :). Synths that are full multi timbral can be set up similarly. It's a shame more modern synths don't have more than 2 or 4 multi timbral capabilities when the old Wavestation, and even my TG-33 can have 16 part multi timbral configs. I suppose modern gear gets around that by having actual MPE modes as far as receiving goes. Controlling classic analogs with the Roli takes some playing with the settings, but it can be done.

    Super interesting and helpful. Now please do the same with Osmose.
    It's also great that you are aware of the problems of too high pitch sensitivity. There are far too many MPE demos that sound terrible because of too much accidental pitch bending.

    The E7 by GS Music is one of the few poly analog synths which support MPE. I really want that pair: Seaboard and E7. OB-6 is other good example :)

    Interesting "not so new" controler but I hope Roli will last longer than their 1st attempt and I hope they will respect their customer and their providers. In other words don't go quickly to bankruptcy and just leaving debts and unsupported unreliable hardwares. Today I would have more confidence in Expressive E company. But well, time will tell. 🙂

    For me personally the Embodme EREA made more sense as an MPE controller for my approach to such things. Would not mind seeing you do a workup on it...

    I have the original RISE 49.. I've always wondered if it was possible to just connect directly to synths via the ROLI but seems you always need a computer running the RISE dashboard software? I quite fancied buying something like a MODAL Argon desktop for that purpose...

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  9 месяцев назад

      The software allows you to tweak stuff, but you can absolutely just plug into the synth without a computer. I only plugged it in to demo the options - while I was making the tones etc I used 5 pin MIDI direct to the synth.

      The Rise 2 and the Osmose are two different beasts. There are things that the Rise 2 can do that the Osmosis can not do vise verses. I want both at my desk.

    I was thinking about this. How is the playability coming from piano. Do u have to press quite hard as in will it feel like some effort and have to maybe take more breaks

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  9 месяцев назад +1

      yeah its a different experience. If I was playing piano style tracks I'd play a standard keybed and use this for more expressive passages. If you only had a single controller you could do it - I'd turn off the per note pitch sensitivity - but it does take a bit of getting used to. Its 'squishy' and doesn't have as much action (the notes don't press down like on a piano). You don't have to press hard, although when you first play it you naturally do for some weird reason! Maybe natural instinct/muscle memory is trying to press the keys down.
