He also did twenty minutes of brilliant in High Noon, compared to his worst, Frankenstein versus Dracula. The sad thing about the latter (besides the lack of Abbott and Costello) is he plays neither monster.
In a book about Chaney's films, Garland was quoted as saying that due to the low budget, only one character was shown in an alligator mask. The other alligator men have their heads wrapped up -- see @ 1:06. (How the alligator men were supposed to breathe with their heads completely-wrapped like that defies logic.) The first time Beverly walked into that room and saw all these heads that, in her opinion, "looked like white urinals", she burst out laughing and couldn't stop laughing, so they called for a lunch break. She said that making this film was fun for her and that Chaney was a fun, wonderful man to work with. He'd tell her all sorts of anecdotes about his father and all of the things he had learned.
I had made the right choice to suggest that movie in the first place! I have a lot of brilliant ideas for a movie review. I had seen that B&W scifi/horror movie before and I cannot help but laugh whenever Lon Channey ( The Wolf Man) razes his voice whenever he is in the sight of alligators, the things he hates because one of them bit his hand off! Unlike, Captain Hook who is terrified of Tick Tock after he bit his hand off and the crocodile has an alarm clock in his stomach and you hear the ticking sound that he makes whenever he is coming!
My friend and I still reference the scene where Lon Chaney jr bursts in , sees the Alligator Man and says "You're not him!" LMAO..at least he got a bit of immortality by appearing on The Monkees. With Uncle Leo no less.
