He also did twenty minutes of brilliant in High Noon, compared to his worst, Frankenstein versus Dracula. The sad thing about the latter (besides the lack of Abbott and Costello) is he plays neither monster.

In a book about Chaney's films, Garland was quoted as saying that due to the low budget, only one character was shown in an alligator mask. The other alligator men have their heads wrapped up -- see @ 1:06. (How the alligator men were supposed to breathe with their heads completely-wrapped like that defies logic.) The first time Beverly walked into that room and saw all these heads that, in her opinion, "looked like white urinals", she burst out laughing and couldn't stop laughing, so they called for a lunch break.
She said that making this film was fun for her and that Chaney was a fun, wonderful man to work with. He'd tell her all sorts of anecdotes about his father and all of the things he had learned.

I had made the right choice to suggest that movie in the first place! I have a lot of brilliant ideas for a movie review. I had seen that B&W scifi/horror movie before and I cannot help but laugh whenever Lon Channey ( The Wolf Man) razes his voice whenever he is in the sight of alligators, the things he hates because one of them bit his hand off! Unlike, Captain Hook who is terrified of Tick Tock after he bit his hand off and the crocodile has an alarm clock in his stomach and you hear the ticking sound that he makes whenever he is coming!

I remember this movie years ago when I was a kid. It was so terrible it didn't even scare me then. You said something about the movie being racist I haven't seen it probably since the early 1950s. Racist or not one of my favorite character actors that I've remembered since I was a kid like I said in the 50s, was Mantan Moreland. He was in my opinion a much better actor then most of his portrayals. I'm sure the studios told him to play a bumbling, scared black guy in most of his movie betrayals. I remember him when I was just a very young boy and I liked Mr Moreland and always have.

The combination of crummy puppet gators and real gators with their jaws taped shut was sickening on two levels. Paul was actually mildly impressive when he was stalking around in a trenchcoat and just had scaly skin; if they'd let the actor continue to _emote_ his changing nature instead of putting some poor miserable schlub in that rubber dead-headed suit, they might have had a decent B-movie instead of this disappointing dud. I actually kinda liked this film. Admittedly, it's cheaply made, and the ending's kinda stupid. There's only one "Alligator Person" anyway, and it's all Lon Chaney's fault he exists in the first place.
I'm not always a fan of 50s movies that depend on hypnotizing the leading lady to drive the flashback -- and then, of course, they don't believe her because, well, she's a WOMAN! (CoughCoughAngryRedPlanetCoughCough). Killers From Space does the same shtick from the male perspective with Peter Graves' scientist - and they don't believe him either.
But I did like what the movie was trying to accomplish, and I thought Lon Chaney was pretty good in the film. Beverly Garland was always good no matter what crap she was forced to do. She was one of the best things about It Conquered the World. And yeah, Frieda Inescort (Paul's mother) has been better. The Alligator costume is fine but too obviously a costume - you constantly see the creases whenever the stuntman moves.
Fun facts: Star Richard Crane (the eventual Alligator Person) was probably best known as Rocky Jones Space Ranger on television. Sadly, he died in 1969 of a heart attack at only 50. Beverly Garland ran the Garland Holiday Inn in North Hollywood for years until her death. They had all kinds of Hollywood-type conventions there, and I think they still do. Never went there myself - it wasn't the easiest to get there by our extremely reliable bus system.

So I guess Paul's ma at 4:28 mins was either from the Back Bay of Boston and speaks mid Atlantic or East End London English which judging by the grimace on her face, looks like it hurt when she spoke. That said, where does a scientist have to go to purchase Plutonium or Uranium 235 and have it haphazardly delivered and left at the front of a bus waiting area for some dainty damsel to sit on?
