Man, seeing you take a fall like that got my heart rate up, you've always been such a great rider, and it was just a reminder this can happen to anyone, and that good gear really makes a difference. (And a bit of luck avoiding cars) Im glad you are ok!!
I’ve gotten 3 flats while riding doing 30+. But never while raining! I’m sure that made it a lot worse. My Monster pro did the best I actually kept riding on it n just thought I was have problems with my equilibrium. 😂 The tire was so stiff it even looked fine when I got off and squeezed it. Finally realized it was flat after getting off the wheel about 3 times. Now I keep a permanent pressure gauge on my wheel that will alert me when my tire is losing any pressure. It was on about 30$. Glad your ok been watching you since the Segway mini pro days. 👍🏼
I never seen a EUC miracle before, until now. Events like this, will be difficult to explain, because they can’t be explained. The probability of you being able to walk away from this, is so improbable, it puts things in perspective. Speedy Recovery for the Duf man, by all means
Looks like you had a pinch flat or sudden puncture, did you check your tyre pressure before setting out? Sure fire type of busy road to determine the colour and texture of 'adrenaline'
Yep I had a tube fail on my Monster eons ago but I was able to safely stop. However I was on a bike path when that happened and probably going nearly half the speed of yesterday
The biggest reason i choose EUC over bike is so i can go with the flow of traffic and avoid trucks passing right next to me but i live in a small city with european traffic systems, stay safe
This just happen to me. Luckily I noticed right away and slowed down very slowly and didn’t take a spill. I’m not sure but I think the reinforced pilot street 2 was stiff enough to ride with a flat inner tube. Glad to see you made it out with only minor injures. After some stuff like that you should probably stare at a sunset and think about life or something.
My heart skipped a beat! Sorry, this is important. What did the innertube reveal? Was it in shreads or a simple puncture? Did the valve stem get caught and tore off? We'd all benefit for a follow-on video of the tire and innertube disassembly and inspection.
So glad that truck stopped. I feel like we need shirts or a big sign on our back that says, "Stay back 200 ft". It really bothers me when cars tail gate us. Tire failures are so scary. I took my brand new OG Sherman on its maiden voyage to the bank less than a mile away. On my way back the tire came unseated and the inner tube exploded out the side instantly locking the wheel. I instantly face planted and slid on my stomach for a bit. I was probably going 20 mph. I didn't know what happened so I stood the wheel up and instantly blew the board because it was trying to balance the wheel but couldn't. Complete freak accident. Close calls really put things into perspective. Glad you were able to walk away.
im glad you're good. I also had a inner tube failure 2 months ago and broke my arm. Luckily I was in resident roads and going 20mph, but I am glad I wasnt alone when it happen because I couldnt get up.
Glad you are ok. This is the exact reason that i decided to sell my et max (300km riden) and get my patton back. These big speedy wheels provoke you to ride amongst cars at car speeds and i don't trust these things with my life. On the patton i automatically ride at a lower pace while choosing bicycle lanes, etc. Sometimes road, sure, but in specific locations where the number of cars is very low.
Can’t imagine… I’ve had a complete blow-out on the rear wheel of a motorcycle before. No direction change possible: you can only go straight due to that “patch of ice” action of the rear wheel. This should be a reality check for ALL of us. Thank you for sharing this.
Man that was terrifying. I had a similar event but it was in two way traffic, but fortunately on a quieter road. This was around 3 years ago now but the scenario and alternate scenarios still fill me with horror regularly to today. What if I had gone down at a different moment? What if my flying wheel had hit an oncoming vehicle causing a secondary crash. It was truly a life changing moment. Have never ridden at those speeds again (except for very brief bursts) and certainly never when in moving traffic with other motorised vehicles again. So glad you are ok. It really does make you reassess your riding. Well done for having all the protective gear on.
Duf! So so glad you survived. I had two flats going downhill full speed already on s 22. I think the only reason I didn’t crash as hard is because I wasn’t carrying the selfie stick.and at age 66 crashing is not really on my bucket list . Hope you heal your body and mind quick!
I certainly hope the manufacturers are watching your videos, especially this one. This is a serious issue that need to be address, since EUC only has one wheel. Anyways, glad you're okay to fight another day.
I believe the flat tire is the combination of three conditions that were met. the low tire pressure, wet conditions, and a high torque wheel. The valve stems shearing off is likely caused by the slippage of the tire and inner tube from the rim. These three conditions are probably your culprit.
Hey Duff, this scared me! I am so thankful you came through as well as you did! I think feeling over secure on any PEV is a big thing after a person has ridden many miles without a serious incident. At your expense, this is a great lesson for me and other PEV riders, even though the crash was not due to crazy riding, rather the unpredictability of a flat tire. I don't mean to make any light of the crash, but thank God all dump truck drivers are not idiots.
Hat's off to that driver in the mack dump truck! Looks like that gear did its job. I hope you have a speedy recovery, both of the flesh and mind my brother! Marty might wear a "cape" but you're my EUC hero Duf!
Had exact same thing happen on Monster wheel and flew off while the wheel landed in 12 inch deep creek. Got a ride, took out the batteries and dried out (they were sealed well). Learned my lesson to not ever ride on semi inflated tire. Full pressure at all times especially on bumpy road. Glad you’re doing well!
My original Monster actually had a tube tear at the valve too. Luckily I was going slow enough that I was able to come to a stop without crashing on that one.
Had this happen to me two times on Monster, first time I was able to jump off, second time was not as good. That time I flipped over and hit pretty hard. Wheel was down for a year before it started to recharge normally again. Thanks for posting!
I had a similar accident with my Sherman S 4 months ago; I lost tire pressure in a corner, and unfortunately, I wasn’t as lucky as you... At 38 years old, I ended up with a "granny fracture" (femoral neck). I've been back in the saddle for a month now (2000 km), but ever since then, I'm paranoid about tire pressure
By those snapshots of you and the trucks emminent result, you got extra days added to your life. Once you were off the euc and physics took over those truck drivers were your guardian angels. They could have beeen texting or just generally driving as usual but they did not run you over. And that cam landing and pointed back at you? Wow Duf. I dont know man. Makes you think.
Man, you are a BEAST! My heart actually skipped a beat watching that crash. What really blows me away is that you tried to ride away all while wearing a shirt that reads, "blood makes the grass grow." You're a freaking trooper! I'm sure my day is coming as well. So far, I've only had a few close calls here. I just hope that I'm able to handle it the way you did.
@@Duf well in my eyes that makes you a trooper. The last time I checked you're a grown man and an experienced EUC rider. I'm sure you would not have knowingly put your life or anyone else's at risk. Give yourself some credit here, Duf.
Glad you made it Duf ... I live in a rural area with lots of sidewalks and the top speed for cars is only 50-70km (30-42mph) ... I was never tempted to ride like cyclists on the road and cars passing by a foot or two away ... your close call there just confirmed why I won't be in the future either ... to think that those people in those 3 lanes all reacted at the same time in a few split seconds the way they did .... is a miracle buddy. I was expecting water ingress and a cutout ... freaking flat? ... now everyone riding tube tires just got a little more nervous. Hope you heal up well.
At age 46, everyone I know that's ever been killed were all bicyclists - all where they were supposed to be in the bike lane or shoulder. I will only ride on the sidewalks or if it's on the road, then it's only a road where I can keep up with traffic and then I take the lane, not the shoulder, while also making sure no-one is immediately behind me. If a cop wants to give me a ticket, then they can give me a ticket. Bike lanes and shoulders are far too dangerous, at least here in the US.
Yeah, that was a scary moment, happy that you’re fine Duf ! Close one this time… Anyway, you got lucky 🍀 as hell… People reacted very good stepping on the breaks … 🙏 Drive safe ! 🎩
So, so glad you are OK man. Many of us have logged thousands and thousands of miles in mixed traffic. This is the moment we all dread: A random, highly infrequent failure completely out of our control, where we need to depend upon the decency, judgement, and sobriety of other drivers just to get out of something alive. To me, this is a failure of infrastructure as much as anything else. The "shoulder" on this roadway (and I'm sure countless others) is an unsafe abomination designed to force riders into "do or die" decisions that place our lives squarely at risk. Shared, safe, respectful infrastructure is possible. I've seen it, ridden it, and appreciated it. And when it isn't present, well, it just shows how much work we have ahead of us to envision a world where cars and vehicles are *part* of the design transportation ecosystem and not the sole beneficiary.
Thanks dude, yep the timing of the failure was about as bad as it could be but ironically the amount of luck I had to avoid serious injury was incredible.
Sorry that happened to you. This is a wake-up call for me riding fast in city traffic with only a helmet and gloves. I gotta put the rest of the gear on. I'm confident on my wheel but I am also aware there may be a firmware issue with pedal dipping on my model so time for me to slow down and gear up.
After talking with friends, i immediately removed the tube from my lynx euc, which the tube failed after my second day of riding the lynx. which i purchased new. i haven’t had any trouble with running the lynx without a tube. but every tire i have run with a tube(on any micro mobility), i have had trouble with (seeming continuous flat tires and even blow outs on rare occasion. im really glad you are okay. that was way to close.
Had the same thing happen to me on the S22. I was at the end of a long ride one mile from the truck carving back and forth down a residential road when the tube suddenly deflated sending me off the road luckily in between huge pine trees. I got really lucky. Glad you did too!
It's very important to have a higher tire pressure at speed. The tire can slowly rotate and shear the valve off. This video definitely gonna make me ride safer! Thank God you're OK, and I learned a lot from your accident. The distance you slid, your reaction was very good. Minimal injury. You handled it like a Champ💯
I've had a few flat tires and they are always, systematically, scary as shit. It's like being railroaded towards one side. I'm super happy that you didn't suffer anything more than abrasions and probably some bruises. Hell of a good thing that everyone on the road was paying attention, that looked close as hell!
The best lessons are the ones we can walk away from. Good reminder we're always playing with fire riding these things. Really glad you're still with us. Take your time getting your legs back under you. Hopefully folks who see this will think a little more carefully about their riding habits and who knows, maybe you'll save a life or two. (also I find that 'bike lane' very upsetting, it's just a death trap, we NEED better infrastructure for things that aren't CARS)
Hi Duf glad you're okay. It's bad enough watching you take a fall at a high speed but then you ending up in the middle of the road and busy traffic is crazy. I've been dumped on the side of the road but never in the road and it was a scary feeling that made me feel lucky to be alive and I know yours is 10 times more of that feeling. I'm recovering from knee surgery but all this time off gave me pause to rethink what I've been doing and I've been sticking to Onewheel for the past 6 months.
Now that's the kind of road you never wanna be on. Cars passing at high speed and close range. Even if your wheel doesn't malfunction, other things can happen. A simple piece of debris in your bike lane could spell disaster. Just because the DOT painted a bike lane there doesn't make it even remotely safe to ride on. I was in a similar situation. Was on 20% battery, struck a small piece of debris, had a cutout and went down. Cut my ankle deep, almost damaged the achilles tendon. I was super lucky. Hope this experience helps you stay safe in the future. Good luck and keep having fun!
man, that was close 😮 glad you ok wow. It seems like Florida doesn't have many bike trails or paths. As you can see, elbow pads are a must. Whenever I fell, somehow my elbows would touch the ground first
Well we are very happy that you are still in one piece. On the tube failure, do we know why? Would slime have prevented the fail? I have a Master and at present no Slime but you have me thinking. As for that feeling you are in in your last moments, I have had that. I used to Hang Glide and had the misfortune to land in the sea. I new my survival time was in minutes, too short a period for me to be rescued, I was sure. I was rescued after 14 minutes by the Royal Navy in a Sea King Helicopter. In that period I had a lot of time to think, I was certain I was not going to survival the ordeal, and it opened my perspective on life in a way that had a profound affect on me for some time. It still conjures up that reality for me now when I think of it. When the helicopter was over my head, like having as battleship hovering over you, you can feel the warmth of the jet exhaust (I was suffering from hypothermia) and smell the aviation fuel. When I smell that smell today, at an air show, or at an airport, it takes me back to that incident in a second.
@@Duf That's interesting, I have damaged valve stems on a bicycle by riding it with low tyre pressure. I normally check my tyre pressure on the EUC before setting off.
That is super scary! I had a valve stem pull out on me and instant flat. Fortunately, I was going slow in a grassy area. This video made me realize how bad it could've been!
I am so happy you were not seriously hurt Duf! I had something similar happen while riding without the near death experience. I didn't realize my inner tube had been losing pressure and wheel was riding fine. However, I was riding on very low tire pressure. At some point it was so low the tire really didn't have enough support to keep the sidewalls erect. The tire caved immediately and veered off and I fell off the wheel. I check my tire pressure much more regularly since then.
Wow! So glad you’re ok. This has happened twice, so far. Each time i was NOT riding at speed. Reason I was not at speed is because in both cases it happened after a fresh tire change. From now on (this is for my case) i never ride the wheel after a fresh, tire change. I let the mechanic (we have a great one in Long Beach) keep the wheel for a couple days and test it to make sure its ok.
I have heard from a number of people in the comments that has had instant deflation due to tube failure. I had not realized it was as widespread as it is.
@@Duf in both incidents the slime or puncture protection was not applied correctly. It was new tube and redo. Mechanics were trying to rush it the first time which led to the failure…hence why now when I do a tire change I have them hold on the wheel for a day or two and test the hell out of it before I get it.
Glad to see you escaped that situation. Riding along side with cars with no physical barrier separating us scares me- I imagine something what happened to you might happen. Scary to see it happen, and yet good on your fellow commuters behind you- they were vigilant and fast enough and didn't run you over or hit each other as they all successively stopped.
Tough man! Glad you survived a life changing experience that could have been lots worse, I wanted one of those way before getting an e-bike because I used to ride a giraffe unicycle as a kid and impressed people around me but as I got older the trend faded nonetheless I was hospitalized on my new e-bike after an accident recently and watching that close call you had helps make up my mind to not buying one. Please don’t be mad at me, but keep riding safe
I'm glad you are ok but that is not a sensible road to ride on. Probably good it was big truck following you. It could not stop too quickly. If it had been an inexperienced driver in a car who jammed on the brakes or swerved into the next lane it would likely have caused a multiple pile up. Stay safe and don't contribute to laws being made against EUCs.
I sold my Patton this year because of this reality. My EUC days are over after 5 yrs of riding, but it was a great experience. I bought a Nami scooter and feel much safer on the road. Be safe guys!
Wow! That was scary. Glad you’re ok Duf. Good thing you had your protective gear on. Maybe you could go through the protective gear and how they helped minimize any serious injuries. Ride safe 🙏.
Very glad you’re physically OK after that scary experience. Bound to have a bit of PTSD after that, but hope you get your confidence back soon. Your video scared the crap out me and I rushed off to check my tire pressure after I watched it. Reckon ‘check pressure AND gear up every ride’ is my new augmented rule set. Had a bad scare 2 years back when a hit-and-run taxicab sideswiped me in the bike lane as he turned right and I vaulted my 65 year old ass over his roof. No great harm done but these events make you aware how vulnerable we are in unprotected bike lanes. Many drivers are uncaring until they hit you. I ride separate bike lanes, trails or sidewalks where I can.
I had a similar fall a couple months ago on fort Lauderdale beach but I tore my ACL and meniscus in the process. I'm glad you are ok and was able to walk away from the fall!!
OMG, I am so relieved that this got a happy ending. Most accidents happen, if both did not pay attention. This time the others had pad attention and reacted immediately. And for you: I cannot imagine any other rider could have avoided this fall. So which lesson did you learn from this? Not to ride anymore on those streets? Otherwise something like that could always happen again. I wish you all the best!
Holy f shit… I know the feeling thats SCARY… had my Shermax’ damaged motherboard (I didnt know then) randomly cutout on me while on the sidewalk about 5 sec after I had gotten off a similar road with similar traffic… I was speechless like “ok did the universe just wait for me to get off the road for the wheel to cutout”. I felt so genuinely fortunate that I only broke my ulna… rebirth experience So glad you look fine. Ride safe please 🙏🏻
D-A-M-N!! I call that 'factor X' and constantly warn my son to be aware of it. Things happen in the blink of an eye & I'm glad your good!! This could have been a very different post..
Glad you made it out brother. I’m resting at a roundabout on my CP 50s and watched this. Scary stuff man. I had a scary incident at are 30 mph where my tire caught a crack and threw me in a massive wobble and I carved out of it thank goodness. Stay safe . Olympia WA
Glad you're ok Shawn, I've fallen like that a handful of times and it sucks. I spent a couple months at one point learning how to fall better. Mike H. (I sold you the Ninebot V10)
My Master V4 is coming in a few days and I was afraid that your accident was a cutoff. Slime and a better tire pressure would maybe prevented it but we will never know. Get well soon!
Glad I'm watching this now. This almost happened to me 1 hour ago on a beltline/highway. I "fell" in the direction of the traffic that was going 50+mph. Luckily I was only going 15 mph and I put my left foot down on the ground, then did it again, and then again a 3rd time, like pushing a skateboard. Luckily I didn't fall at all, and I stayed in the outside of the highway on the side. Glad you're okay, or rather I'll keep watching but it looks like you're good.
Nothing can be said to equal the seriousness of this accident. That was absolutely jaw dropping, but glad the injuries weren't more severe, all things considered.
That's is really rough, so glad you're ok, at least physically! As EUC community its only healthy to remind each other of the great risks we should be aware of
Oh wow! So glad you’re OK! TPS should be a thing that comes on a wheel, those flats really sneak up on you sometimes, but either way, I want to know about it before this happens.
@@DufI was wondering what could cause such a rapid deflation. Not sure what you can do to prevent that. I'd be curious to know what brand of inner tube that was.
So lucky that the red truck in the lane next to you wasn’t closer! Watched it in slow mo and they were very close as you slid into the middle lane 😮 hope you’re healing up okay
Damn dude! Seeing this in its entirety had my blood pumping. A huge truck had JUST passed you before that crash! You truly were SECONDS away from dying! The entire EUC community and I are all eternally grateful that you walked away from that. 😢
Thanks for sharing Duf! Good you are ok!!! I am following the EUC scene since 2 years on youtube, still guessing what model to choose.....living in the Dutch Caribbean so making a choice is not easy!
Same with me, I felt when I'm most confident. Be vigilant @ all time. You 're probably can handle it when you known it is coming. But That's the thing. Sudden occurrents.
go tubeless. Slower air loss, better handling and stability and less prone to punctures as there is no inner tube. In addition, they can self seal (especially with sealant inside), therefore reducing the chance of a sudden flat. Lucky you!
I tried doing that to my Monster but could not find the tubeless tire. Ended up putting the green glue in my tube to hopefully slow down the air loss. Mine deflated in less than 1 second
That's a scary lookin clip I'm glad you were able to walk away from that one. Thank God the drivers around you were paying attention. Thank you for sharing.
😳 I’m glad you didn’t become roadkill and got away with minor injuries! Lucky the camera was rolling and it was pointing in your direction during and after the incident cuz everyone knows, the cameraman never dies! LOL The only gear I’m putting on is a 360 camera with a roll cage. 😁 I had just turn on high speed on my Patton. Now, I’m having second thoughts.
@@Duf Yeah, I don't know how else to describe it. The fact that you are still alive is a miracle. Plus, you’ve got it all on video. That is another miracle. I believe the flat tire is the combination of three conditions that were met. the low tire pressure, wet conditions, and a high torque wheel. The valve stems shearing off is likely caused by the slippage of the tire and inner tube from the rim. These three conditions are probably your culprit.
@@kennethyuen9849 There were several miracles that occurred that day. It's a HT wheel but I don't accelerate or decelerate hard. Everything is feathered in normally. My current theory is the valve hole is sharp and cut the tube. I will be checking
So glad you are ok! A good reminder to count your blessings every day and twice before you get on a wheel. Might just be a cyclical thing but seeing a lot of wrecks lately. Did you get a chance to see where the tube failed? Anyway hopefully you can avoid those kinds of roads in the future! Honestly for me am evaluating if there are enough safer places to ride in Palm Beach county or if I just sell my V4 get a Falcon and stick to sidewalks, parks and bike paths. Peace!
The valve steam tore off the tube. I am in the process of trying to fix the wheel. Riding with traffic is inherently dangerous, this certainly demonstrates why
Glad that you are safe. i bought armordilloz tire repair goo a day or two ago, as people say that it has a 100% fix rate for punctures. they also say that you can leave it in for years. It is definitely gong to get packed in my future euc toolkit that I plan to carry around.
@@Duf I just got a master not long ago, so this interests me. When I swapped out my tire to street, it seemed like the only thing contacting the stem hole was the metal stem itself. It would seem more likely that you got a puncture with a modest leak. Once the rim side pressure got low enough, the rim spun inside the tire, ripping the stem out. You could put the pump in the stem hole left in the tube, and wrap it up with tape or a zip tie (left over from your tire change) and see if there isn't another leak somewhere in the tube once it has some pressure in it.
@@RoyCarterRoy, this was going to be my follow-up question to Duf. Would a small leak in the valve stem possibly end in critical failure a little later? I think that this is possible and that armodilloz might help in this case also. It is possible that the valve came off completely, but wouldn't you also agree that it's possible that it was a small leak that became a critical failure?
You looked death in the face,... and survived. Welcome to the club.
Welcome to the beginning of a new phase of living.

Yep you start to take things for granted
Hat's off to that driver in the mack dump truck! Looks like that gear did its job. I hope you have a speedy recovery, both of the flesh and mind my brother!
Marty might wear a "cape" but you're my EUC hero Duf!
LOL thx buddy
Your T-shirt 😂😂😂
Uh huh
And Grass makes the Blood Flow
I'm glad you're okay Duf! DAMN Man I think my heart skipped a few beats watching this. Your Guardian Angel was with you on this ride.
For sure Sensei
Ouch!!!
Well the grass is growing now
Sure is
I had a similar accident with my Sherman S 4 months ago; I lost tire pressure in a corner, and unfortunately, I wasn’t as lucky as you... At 38 years old, I ended up with a "granny fracture" (femoral neck). I've been back in the saddle for a month now (2000 km), but ever since then, I'm paranoid about tire pressure
Damn dude, sounds bad. I'm sore but at least intact more or less
Yea the fact the camera basically kept me in frame is it was launched into the median is hard to believe
If the tube wasnt gone I would have rode home. I don't know if that makes me a beast or just stubborn, and stupid.
It was a learning moment
At age 46, everyone I know that's ever been killed were all bicyclists - all where they were supposed to be in the bike lane or shoulder.
I will only ride on the sidewalks or if it's on the road, then it's only a road where I can keep up with traffic and then I take the lane, not the shoulder, while also making sure no-one is immediately behind me. If a cop wants to give me a ticket, then they can give me a ticket. Bike lanes and shoulders are far too dangerous, at least here in the US.
@@dancox3251 Potential danger, confirmed.
Yeah, that was a scary moment, happy that you’re fine Duf !
Close one this time…
Anyway, you got lucky 🍀 as hell…
People reacted very good stepping on the breaks …
🙏
Drive safe !
🎩
Yea they did
So, so glad you are OK man.
A safer option would be to enjoy our unicycles on bike paths. Glad to see you are ok! Wish you the best and safe fun!
That is always an option
Sorry that happened to you. This is a wake-up call for me riding fast in city traffic with only a helmet and gloves. I gotta put the rest of the gear on. I'm confident on my wheel but I am also aware there may be a firmware issue with pedal dipping on my model so time for me to slow down and gear up.
Right on
I am glad that you're not really inured, I noticed you being affected by the near death experience, have a good recovery
Yep it will have some affects, unavoidable
After talking with friends, i immediately removed the tube from my lynx euc, which the tube failed after my second day of riding the lynx. which i purchased new.
i haven’t had any trouble with running the lynx without a tube. but every tire i have run with a tube(on any micro mobility), i have had trouble with (seeming continuous flat tires and even blow outs on rare occasion.
im really glad you are okay. that was way to close.
Good move in retrospect.
Had the same thing happen to me on the S22. I was at the end of a long ride one mile from the truck carving back and forth down a residential road when the tube suddenly deflated sending me off the road luckily in between huge pine trees. I got really lucky. Glad you did too!
Damn dude that sounds bad too
These are those crazy moments that really make me appreciate the time I have!!!! So glad you are still with us
Yep it is key frame in my time line
It's very important to have a higher tire pressure at speed. The tire can slowly rotate and shear the valve off.
This video definitely gonna make me ride safer!
Thank God you're OK, and I learned a lot from your accident. The distance you slid, your reaction was very good. Minimal injury. You handled it like a Champ💯
I was at just under 30PSI which is enough to be safe, been using that forever. Thanks for the well wishes!
@@Duf dang. Good to know. I guess it just happens sometimes.
I've had a few flat tires and they are always, systematically, scary as shit. It's like being railroaded towards one side. I'm super happy that you didn't suffer anything more than abrasions and probably some bruises. Hell of a good thing that everyone on the road was paying attention, that looked close as hell!
The red truck missed me by inches upon further review
The best lessons are the ones we can walk away from. Good reminder we're always playing with fire riding these things. Really glad you're still with us. Take your time getting your legs back under you. Hopefully folks who see this will think a little more carefully about their riding habits and who knows, maybe you'll save a life or two.
(also I find that 'bike lane' very upsetting, it's just a death trap, we NEED better infrastructure for things that aren't CARS)
Good advice
Oh man, I see you, brother. Shows even more, how important protection stuff is. Glad I didn't have such a bad crash but I feel that.
Yup
Crazy man. Glad you’re fully intact! Very scary to watch and realize the possibilities
Expect the unexpected I guess
really happy you're ok. we need tubeless tires. or airless... hopefully they can get the tech right sometime this century.
Maybe
Hi Duf glad you're okay. It's bad enough watching you take a fall at a high speed but then you ending up in the middle of the road and busy traffic is crazy. I've been dumped on the side of the road but never in the road and it was a scary feeling that made me feel lucky to be alive and I know yours is 10 times more of that feeling. I'm recovering from knee surgery but all this time off gave me pause to rethink what I've been doing and I've been sticking to Onewheel for the past 6 months.
This has given me some pause, for sure
Funny/scary, stupid thing is I have ridden that road for the last 8 years
man, that was close 😮 glad you ok wow. It seems like Florida doesn't have many bike trails or paths. As you can see, elbow pads are a must. Whenever I fell, somehow my elbows would touch the ground first
Well all the major roads here have bike lanes but the only thing protecting you from cars is paint
Sure glad you could walk away from that crash, Duf. You had an Angel watching over you that day. My anxiety was triggered to the max.
Yep the amount of luck involved was massive
We do, the tube ripped at the valve stem. I need to take the tire off and inspect the valve hole to see if it is as sharp as some people say
Yep I never thought about this scenario previously
I am so happy you were not seriously hurt Duf! I had something similar happen while riding without the near death experience. I didn't realize my inner tube had been losing pressure and wheel was riding fine. However, I was riding on very low tire pressure. At some point it was so low the tire really didn't have enough support to keep the sidewalls erect. The tire caved immediately and veered off and I fell off the wheel. I check my tire pressure much more regularly since then.
In this case it went from 30PSI to zero nearly instantly. Hope to never experience it again
Glad that you are able to walk through it 🙌!!
Thank you buddy
Wow! So glad you’re ok. This has happened twice, so far. Each time i was NOT riding at speed. Reason I was not at speed is because in both cases it happened after a fresh tire change. From now on (this is for my case) i never ride the wheel after a fresh, tire change. I let the mechanic (we have a great one in
Long Beach) keep the wheel for a couple days and test it to make sure its ok.
Yikes! That was close! Glad you're OK to ride another day! 🫡🩹
Me too bud, me too
Glad to see you escaped that situation. Riding along side with cars with no physical barrier separating us scares me- I imagine something what happened to you might happen. Scary to see it happen, and yet good on your fellow commuters behind you- they were vigilant and fast enough and didn't run you over or hit each other as they all successively stopped.
The stars aligned
Not mad at you, lol. Thanks for the well wishes
Can't argue that
Glad to see you’re ok Duf. That protective gear did its thang. All the best amigo.
It definitely did
I sold my Patton this year because of this reality. My EUC days are over after 5 yrs of riding, but it was a great experience. I bought a Nami scooter and feel much safer on the road. Be safe guys!
I hear you and I understand.
Holy hell. This is why I stick to small streets and trails - to easy to have cutouts , hit a bump, oil, etc... stay safe!
Yea it was a wake up call for sure
Wow! That was scary. Glad you’re ok Duf. Good thing you had your protective gear on. Maybe you could go through the protective gear and how they helped minimize any serious injuries. Ride safe 🙏.
I sort of did in last nights live stream
glad youre ok. this is always my nightmare and i dont even ride on the street!
I may have nightmares for awhile
In my case it appears the tire valve ripped off, hard to predict that one
Glad you made it home safe. I was considering a V4 Master 😅 might wait on that a bit
It's not the wheel although it could be a valve stem hole that was never smoothed out whatsoever
I had a similar fall a couple months ago on fort Lauderdale beach but I tore my ACL and meniscus in the process. I'm glad you are ok and was able to walk away from the fall!!
My left side is messed up but I'll be ok
OMG, I am so relieved that this got a happy ending. Most accidents happen, if both did not pay attention. This time the others had pad attention and reacted immediately.
And for you: I cannot imagine any other rider could have avoided this fall. So which lesson did you learn from this? Not to ride anymore on those streets? Otherwise something like that could always happen again. I wish you all the best!
I am still figuring out the lessons I learned, there have been a few
Holy f shit… I know the feeling thats SCARY… had my Shermax’ damaged motherboard (I didnt know then) randomly cutout on me while on the sidewalk about 5 sec after I had gotten off a similar road with similar traffic… I was speechless like “ok did the universe just wait for me to get off the road for the wheel to cutout”. I felt so genuinely fortunate that I only broke my ulna… rebirth experience
So glad you look fine. Ride safe please 🙏🏻
Yep a bit of a rebirth for me as well
D-A-M-N!! I call that 'factor X' and constantly warn my son to be aware of it. Things happen in the blink of an eye & I'm glad your good!! This could have been a very different post..
Well likely no post, just an obituary
Glad you made it out brother. I’m resting at a roundabout on my CP 50s and watched this. Scary stuff man. I had a scary incident at are 30 mph where my tire caught a crack and threw me in a massive wobble and I carved out of it thank goodness. Stay safe .
Olympia WA
Yea at that speed things happen in a hurry
Wow Duf, that is some scary stuff. Prayers for your safety in the future.
Glad you are ok.
Elvis and Pam Smith
Thanks to both of you
Glad you're ok Shawn, I've fallen like that a handful of times and it sucks. I spent a couple months at one point learning how to fall better. Mike H. (I sold you the Ninebot V10)
Ah nice, all things considered I fell pretty well this time.
My Master V4 is coming in a few days and I was afraid that your accident was a cutoff. Slime and a better tire pressure would maybe prevented it but we will never know. Get well soon!
Maybe
Glad I'm watching this now. This almost happened to me 1 hour ago on a beltline/highway. I "fell" in the direction of the traffic that was going 50+mph. Luckily I was only going 15 mph and I put my left foot down on the ground, then did it again, and then again a 3rd time, like pushing a skateboard. Luckily I didn't fall at all, and I stayed in the outside of the highway on the side.
Glad you're okay, or rather I'll keep watching but it looks like you're good.
Wow dude sounds like you got really lucky. Yea I'm good, a little f'd in the head but good overall.
Nothing can be said to equal the seriousness of this accident. That was absolutely jaw dropping, but glad the injuries weren't more severe, all things considered.
9 times out of 10 I am not walking away from that crash
EUC’s should come standard with a tubeless set-up. Glad you’re okay!!!!
Marty seems to think they will for most new wheels soon
That was crazy! So glad that dump truck didn't run you over
When you slow it down I had an even closer call with a burgundy truck
That's is really rough, so glad you're ok, at least physically! As EUC community its only healthy to remind each other of the great risks we should be aware of
Yep everyone needs to think about this scenario
Oh wow! So glad you’re OK! TPS should be a thing that comes on a wheel, those flats really sneak up on you sometimes, but either way, I want to know about it before this happens.
Well the valve stem simply detached from the tube causing an instant deflation.
@@Duf crap, I guess that is another strong reason to go tubeless.
@@DufI was wondering what could cause such a rapid deflation. Not sure what you can do to prevent that.
I'd be curious to know what brand of inner tube that was.
@@djwhiteflour Just fyi, folks have been having trouble with the tubeless on the Blitz, same thing, valve stem breaking.
@@crashyridejust wow! Tire faults on an EUC are just my nightmare scenario. I wonder if the tube was stressed out from that tire change a while back.
Glad you're OK. Lesson to us all to stay vigilant and be mindful of our surroundings.
Sure thing
man that was so fk close / I'm glad that you are safe back home ....
Closer than I realized at the time
Omg dude 😳 glad that you are good and you didn't get hurt. Dude screw old wheels, stay safe with the new ones.
Master V4 isn't old!!
@Duf I commented before knowing the reason of your cutouts. We'll either way, I'm glad you are good and safe.
Damn Duff. Crazy one. Sorry that it happened to you. Glad that you are OK.
Thanks for the well wishes
Could have been so much worse, that bike lane next to traffic like that is dangerous stuff. Glad your ok, someone was watching out for you for sure.
I agree
Super glad you're ok.
Thanks I appreciate it
So lucky that the red truck in the lane next to you wasn’t closer! Watched it in slow mo and they were very close as you slid into the middle lane 😮 hope you’re healing up okay
I slid right in front of him, didnt realize until playback
Damn dude! Seeing this in its entirety had my blood pumping. A huge truck had JUST passed you before that crash! You truly were SECONDS away from dying! The entire EUC community and I are all eternally grateful that you walked away from that. 😢
Yes in a nutshell I almost got run over twice.
Shirt is definitely ironic!! Glad you didn’t get hurt too bad. Gear did its job . Cars whizzing by at 60 is scary ass 💩
Lots of scare to be had
Thanks for sharing Duf! Good you are ok!!! I am following the EUC scene since 2 years on youtube, still guessing what model to choose.....living in the Dutch Caribbean so making a choice is not easy!
Make a wise choice!
Glad ur OK sir. Sucks to not trust a wheel anymore. Or a tube even.
Yea I will be doing things to rebuild trust
Same with me, I felt when I'm most confident. Be vigilant @ all time. You 're probably can handle it when you known it is coming. But That's the thing. Sudden occurrents.
Yep it is pretty impactful
Glad you’re alright Dufmeister.
Thanks buddy
go tubeless. Slower air loss, better handling and stability and less prone to punctures as there is no inner tube. In addition, they can self seal (especially with sealant inside), therefore reducing the chance of a sudden flat. Lucky you!
Might be the next move
This should be standard from the factories by now!
@@Duf i forgot on whether or not the Masters rim can fit a tubeless tire. You may want to check first of course. Good Luck 👍🏼.
I tried doing that to my Monster but could not find the tubeless tire. Ended up putting the green glue in my tube to hopefully slow down the air loss. Mine deflated in less than 1 second
@@yuriys3164 Yep my deflate felt instant
That's a scary lookin clip I'm glad you were able to walk away from that one. Thank God the drivers around you were paying attention. Thank you for sharing.
Scary indeed
Good grief duff buddy!! That was shocking when I saw this😱😱. Glad u still with us.🙏
Thx Dante
😳 I’m glad you didn’t become roadkill and got away with minor injuries!
Lucky the camera was rolling and it was pointing in your direction during and after the incident cuz everyone knows, the cameraman never dies! LOL
The only gear I’m putting on is a 360 camera with a roll cage. 😁
I had just turn on high speed on my Patton. Now, I’m having second thoughts.
The fact that the camera was pointed at me as it launched across 3 lanes of traffic was another miracle
That must of been so scary. Glad you're OK man.
It was indeed. Thank you buddy.
Glad you’re ok man, your videos are part of the reason my current wheels a v12 pro and next wheel will be a v13
Glad to hear it!
@@Duf I’m a bigger guy in Florida as well, so I found your videos really relevant. Again glad you’re good and can’t wait to see more from ya
It's good stuff but won't save you if the valve steam tears
