Thanks ixi. :D That 303 in Echoes is a homebrewed one. :D It's the humble subtractor, going into Reason's ancient half rack distortion unit, the D-11 and treated with lots of compression and tonnes of reverb. :) The vocal samples were done with a generic text-to-speech thingamajig. Just 3 basic voices uttering those words. :) Without the project file, I can't be totally certain about the chord progression in the pads, but it's either me playing the full articulations by hand, or it was done in the synth side, with one of the oscillators having that offset that gives us the 9th and I'm playing simpler chords that all get the add 9 from the virtue of the sound design. I'm not sure I have anything specific to point to as inspiration for my drum programming. I tend to toms, claps and bootstomps because they have a tremendous feeling of power and respond well to being drenched in reverb in ways more typical drums don't. As for the panning, there was some arbitrary point at the beginning of 2019 where I started doing cool panning for most of my drums and it just became part of my sound. Prior to that, it was pretty rare that I even touched the panning. Aww, I was looking forward to see how you'd analyze the heavily pitch-bent flutes and theremin and bass that feature in Start to Play, but the limitations of time & space faced with a 15-chord progression could not abide it. :P Pitch-bending flutes has become a prominent element in my music recently, so they're pretty likely to feature in the next month too. :)
Thanks ixi. :D
