Awesome video sir, I'm new to all digital and CW. My Elmer just gave me a old computer that I could use with my icon 7300 for digital modes. I have all mac's. I've been trying to get CW to decode with DM780 for like a week now, so glad I found your video, thank you. KN4GFP 73's

Thanks for the video about CWGet. I’ll give it a try! I used to be a 20 wpm Novice in 1972, and built up to 25 to 30 wpm. But after several decades of inactivity, my CW is now only 10 wpm and I struggle at 13 wpm. I want to build my CW speed back to 30 Aomori faster if that’s possible.
I haven’t been able to get DM 780 to transmit digital or CW following your configuration advice for the 7610. I don’t know why transmit doesn’t work with DM 780 and the Icom 7610. CW transmit works from the built in memories in the 7610. RTTY and PSK31 transmit works from the built in 7610 screen decode and a USB keyboard connected to the 7610 without the computer.
HRM detects my frequency and connects. I reload Windows 7 and upgraded it to Window 10. It still didn’t work. Maybe there’s a problem with my computers built in sound card or a problem with the built in 7610 radios sound card. I tired two different USB cables into the black USB jack on the back of the 7610 radio. When I tried using the blue USB jack, I couldn’t connect to the HRM software.

Hi Dave, nice to hear from you and thank you for commenting here. I don't know if this will work for you, but to improve my CW I listen to the ARRL code practice while driving at work. It helps.
Maybe a setting is off in your radio. Have a look at my screen captures page.www.k0pir.us/icom-ic-7610-specifications-features/icom-7610-screen-captures/
The 7610 also utilizes virtual com ports and maybe you're using the wrong one. Have a look at this www.k0pir.us/the-icom-7610-ham-radio-deluxe-setup/ and ruclips.net/video/PeIkasYQelI/видео.html
In DM780 use HRD for PTT and your USB Audio CODEC for the soundcard input and output. I hope this helps. 73!

First of all, thank you for the video, it really is informative. I am facing some trouble connecting the 7300 with the DM780. Although it connects immediately with the HRD, then, when I try to launch the DM780, it tries strangley to use a different COM port and it does nt connect. (Error opening COM8 to send CW. Access denied.) So if there is a relative video, with guide lines it would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance, 73 de SV1SLB. By the way, what cable are you using? I just connect the 7300 with the laptop, with the same cable I use for the WSJTX (USB to that plug at the back of the 7300)

It’s good to hear from you and thank you for commenting. And DM780 look at program options and then modes + IDs then look at the CW tab and on the right hand side enable serial comport key. What is there? it should be the one you are using. Thanks for watching 73.

      @@HamRadioAdventures Thanks for the answer.
Yes, the COM port there, is enabled, but the number is COM8, it can not be changed and it is not the CO tha the HRD is usning (COM3).
Problem solved! I did not know that I have to drag that yellow bar on the waterfall excatly on the signal mark.
SO far I can receive, but unable to transmit. That is where the COM8 is used for.
      THANK YOU AGAIN

If I understand you correctly, that would be for a CW interface@@batfalcononyoutube Do you have one and if not disable it.

@@HamRadioAdventures Maybe I have not understood correctly.
I have connected the 7300 with the laptop using a cable usb on one side and a big sort of square plug on the other. With this cable and using the WJSTX app, I am working FT8 and some other digital modes. By the same cable I can receive CW using the CWGet or the DM780. But, when I try to transmit (using the DM780), I get the error message I told you above. (Error opening COM8 to send CW. Access denied.).
Now, is there anything else I should be using in order to transmit?

      @HamRadioAdventures  10 месяцев назад

@@batfalcononyoutube OK I see the problem, if you have that enabled that is for a CW interface. Disable it. That is for a CW interface. To send CW using DM 780 without an interface and just that USB cable you can try choosing CW (KY Cmd) from the drop-down menu Instead of choosing CW. See k0pir.us/digital-master-780-dm780-cw-send-cw-interface-how-to/

I know this video is 4 old but I am just getting into CW. I tried to download CWGet but can't seem to do it. There does not appear to be a video showing how to do it. I am looking for some help

It's nice to hear from you and thanks for commenting. The download link is here at the bottom of the page: dxsoft.com/en/products/cwget/
After it is on your computer, go to the folder it's in and it needs to be unzipped, so right click and select "Extract All". It'll openup and you will se a setup file, double click it to start the installation. I hope this helps, let me know. My email addy is good on QRZ.com. 73!

I have a Dell Lattitude which I purchased solely to use with amateur radio. I am sorry I did. I have been having an impossible time trying to make it work with just about any amateur software. I am trying to use a USB connection from my IC 7300 to the laptop but the program seems to want to use the laptop microphone. I could try connecting the radio headphone jack to the laptop jack but I should not have to do that. If you can help me set up my radio and CW get, that would be great.

I know it's been two years, but it's not a Dell problem. All you have to do is disable the onboard mic. It's a windows setting.

I’m a relatively new ham but I’ve been around long enough to learn that you can get a lot of heat from the true blue CW guys if a workaround to CW is mentioned.
This isn’t a workaround as I’m in the process of learning CW. I want to be a real ham someday :-)
But, it has occurred to me that since machine CW can usually be read by a computer at high rates of speed it would be a great way to pass large documents over the radio quickly.
I know there are lots of other digital modes with error checking but they are usually much slower. Just a thought.

Hi Scott nice to hear from you and yeah I agree. There are some Hams who dislike CW decoding by computer or even by a ham radio. The way I see it, it is just a tool and is not only helpful but enjoyable. I suggest learning Morse code and using a key, paddle, or both, but that’s just my thoughts. Using a computer for any digital mode is fun too and that includes CW. It’s a challenge!
RTTY is 60 words a minute and I believe that’s what came after CW, but I could be wrong. Thanks again and best wishes,73!

All I get is lots of e e e e e e ttttttt tettt etete and that sort of stuff. Tried several different signals but no real difference. Must be a setting somewhere.
