Of course, you are a high ladder player and I barely play, but I feel that because you are so high on the ladder, you tend to overthink instead of making the obvious play which usually is the correct one, like making a double or setting up screens. Synchronize only copies burns, paralysis or poison. Sleep (along with freeze) is not eligible. Grass typing is not the reason. Powder moves are a method of inflicting status, but not the status itself; and when Synchronize activates, the ability is the infliction method against the opponent, even if it was itself triggered by a powder move. If Amoonguss had successfully used Stun Spore on Umbreon, Synchronize would have succeeded in inflicting paralysis. Moreover, if Poison Powder had succeeded, Synchronize would have at least shown the activation message before failing (as Amoonguss is actually immune to poison regardless of infliction method as long the source Pokemon doesn't have Corrosion).
