Good news is you didn't tear it up to bad. And by the way that mic you use is awesome. Can still hear you even when you're in the pulling tractor and not close to the camera. Wish more youtubers would use them. Thanks the the videos Dennis.
We sure can get into some awful messes farming can’t we.? I know from experience too. Been farming all my life and running equipment. Good job getting it out without doing any more damage. Sometimes that can be a challenge. Glad you guys didn’t get hurt and you didn’t when it happened. That’s what they call the pucker effect.lol
That's crazy lucky no one was hurt but accidents happen like my grampa said dents add character there dents on my grampa old d12 I didn't body work when I restored it bc I remember how they happened when I was just a lil boy
Dennis that could have been so much worse, glad you are ok. Things can happen so fast that even an experienced operator like you don’t have time to react.
That was a close one. Not sure if more tread on the rear would have helped in this situation with it being so steep and slick. Glad to see you made it out safe. Thanks for taking time to make the video. It is a good lesson.
That's crazy- I have never encountered conditions like that before (except in the winter as you mentioned). Must have been some hard ground with just a light layer of muddy topsoil. Glad nothing was badly damaged!
For some reason this has gotten me thinking about how I've managed to avoid ending up in a situation like this - despite how many times I've had the rear start sliding on smaller machines (3pt mower s on compact tractor & riding mowers) ..... truthfully I'm not sure I can recall all the times I've been partially crabbed/drifting across a slope while mowing - usually end up that way by attempting to drive up/across the slope until I get back on to firmer & flatter ground. Guess I figure if the top of the slope is wet, the bottom is probably going to be wetter/slicker (all other things being equal). ..... but it's really got me rethinking some of my mowing habits though and how comfortable I've become with that situation (even though it's not something I intentionally go trying to do).... guess perhaps growing up driving & walking on ice so often got me complacent about slipping & sliding my way around?!?
I'm glad you started your video describing what had happened before seeing the scene. That looked pretty scary! The good Lord protected you and it seems like the equipment as well from something that could have been much worse. Hard to imagine the 6030 sliding around so much considering all the snow & icy conditions you have been out in clearing the roads with that tractor. I'm glad you lived to tell about it.
I have been on a ride like that before in that tractor, but it was on a road that turned to solid ice. I started up a steep hill and made it about 3/4 of the way up then it started back down the hill backwards then started doing doughnuts went off the road at the bottom of the hill into a flat field and stopped, it was kinda fun thinking back on it but there weren’t any trees. I went and got some chains after that.
I've never had a tractor do that either but glad you didn't get hurt. It can happen to anyone, you are blessed it didn't get the bush hog and tractor worse. Stay safe out there and see you next time
Oh Man , So sorry to see the damage you did , I bet you were singing "Dixy" as you headed down that steep hill . Man , I would have felt a right Idiot & Muppet when you climbed out of that , I know I would have done ! . Your very brave & honest to own up to that little lot . I can only hope you received real help afterwards . Thankfully we dont get too many of those prangs here in the UK . I know I would be thinking about getting another driver in there to sort that out . Did you also know driving on wet grass is like driving on Ice ? I bet you do now . Kind Regards to ya
Glad your okay you replace a tractor or bushog i belivie i would have ordered some new tires the next morning those look pretty slick for what i can see again glad your okay god was riding with you thats for sure be safe out there
It s scary, could have been a lot worse though when you lose control of all that iron on the hill. I thought the Batwing would have more damage, good to her in the fields again.
Pleased you are OK Dennis, and the damage not good but could have been alot worse, least your tractor and Bushhog still running OK . Are you thinking about replacing the back tyres or were you just unlucky that it took off down the slope ? Mike
I don't know if you've seen the video from several years ago where one of Andy's guys was pulling a large liquid manure spreader on a snow covered road. They hit a tree going fairly fast with the rear duals and BROKE IT CLEAN OFF! They broke it right where the axle went into the rear end of the tractor!.
Nice work Dennis. Looks steep there wet conditions not so much fun. How much the bat wing weight compared to the tractor though I dont see much how you could have avoided it. I think it could have been alot worse glad it wasn't. See you then.
Yikes.... that couldv'e been worse. Think with all that forage on top of the ground with the roots it would have a little more holding power just for the ground to let go like that.
I have 2 questions?? 1st, why didn't you unhook the brush hog and drive away from it then drag it up out of the woods with a chain?? Second you think that brush hog is a little to big for that tractor?? Please don't get offended just asking.
What we have here is a failure to communicate😂😂😂 what we needed in this particular situation was a real tractor otherwise known as a Green tractor .. to successfully navigate this particular conundrum😂😂😂
This is a good example of how dangerous farming is, I bet you brush hogged on a hill like that a thousand times but suddenly you lost control of your equipment in the blink of an eye. Another thing is when the guy was hooking the chain to the tractor that's a good example of how large the farm equipment is in comparison to a person.
We’ve all had blunders like that. I slid sideways down a big hill in a Fendt 936, scared the crap out of me and I flipped my brand new Schulte batwing on its side the day I got it taking a turn on a hill. I hadn’t even ran the mower yet.
Gravity sucks. Too bad about the mower hope it can be repaired, with out too much money. I think on top of the repairs, I think it's time for new tires on the back of the tractor. Most important thing, is that no one got hurt in all this. I bet it was a scary ride. Take care.
worn tyres and wet conditions is a bad combination.also your topper being on wheels doesn"t help one little bit. I"ve done a lot of topping on much steeper land than that and i use a 3 metre mounted inline mounted topper you can get a bit of weight on the tractor tyres then that helps with traction.but be carefull on steep land as my mother yous to say its not worth risking your life for a few weeds

Personally, I would of unhitched the mower, and the NH would of drove out on its own, and then pull the mower out with the NH and a chain. No help needed.
I was with my dad on a 4455 MFWD when I was about 7 or so and he was blowing hay on a big 3 to 1 highway right of way slope that was probably 200 feet to the bottom. We were at the top edge where it rolled over onto the roadway so we weren’t on the slope entirely but it was wet and my dad was trying to hit the bottom with hay and ended up sliding down this deal at what seemed like 40 mph sideways. I was on the downhill side sitting next to him in the cab and even at that age I knew we just barely got away with it. There was a ball of hay the size of the back tire up against it when we hit the bottom.
@@DLHFarms it was sketchy for sure. I loved riding with my dad but I couldn’t get out of there fast enough to get back in the truck with my mom after that. It took me a while to get back on the slopes with him.

I know video doesn't show steepness of hills.but that looks pretty steep.something tell me a ford is getting new rear tires soon.maybe couple rear wheel weights too.
Sorry Dennis but I did chuckle to my self. My friend and I were flail mowing on an alpine tractor with front flail mower on a slope like yours there. He lost control half way down and it flew down like it was on ice. As it turned sideways it hit a little sapling which luckily straitened him up. He stop on the flat bit at the bottom luckily. These things happen no matter who or what you are and grass can’t the interesting! Glad you’re ok though!
Looks like the tires on that tractor wore out it doesn't look like there's any tread on them how many how many hours does that tractor have on the tires looks like you don't have any traction at all
That was a trousers lining moment 😬😬😬😬. I don't like it when they just decide to go and there's no stopping.. that will be new tyres on the back for winter then .. glad the topper was a solid bit of kit.. it was your anchor 🙄😁. Stay safe 🏴
Imagine what might have happened if the tractor had hit a tree and you had banged your head and were unconscious. Then imagine what might have happened if you were unconsious in a green tractor, search and rescue would never have found you. Yet another reason (should one be required) not to drive a green tractor! In my experience fluid in the tires greats a much less stable vehicle than steel weights, firstly becasue it moves around and secondly because the centre of gravity is much higher. A trick that I have used and I think would have helped you is to place a strap under the drawbar of a heavy trailed implement like that. When you need extra traction you can carefully raise the lower arms slightly and transfer weight onto the rear of the tractor from the implement and from the front of the tractor. I have driven many such stucked tractors out of much worse situations where no tow vehicle was available. At least you are safe and unhurt.
Wow, glad you weren't hurt! Dad take you out behind the wood shed for wrecking the tractor and batwing? LOL Maybe you oughta rig up a couple subsoilers on the back of the tractor or bush hog that can be lowered hydraulically in a hurry since you work on so many steep hillsides. They'd grab and dig in like an anchor. BTW- your left tail light is out on the NH.

With any hills at all, those rear tires need replaced. I have less tread on my ts100 but i farm all flat ground in il. Growing up on hill in ohio i learned early how critical tread on rear tires is!
had an uncle who lived near big island va who lived on some acreage with a small lake. his house was at the top of a hill and the lake down below hill. not sure why he was driving his 4x4 p/u down the hill towards the lake but it happened to him. fortuneately his truck was stopped by a couple of trees before it could reach the lake. at the time i don't think he was in the truck. he got out to look at something and yes the hill had recently been rained on. be extra careful on wet hills.
You shoulda took your cylinder stops out of mower to where it could hit the ground and that weight of mower woulda been the best brakes You could of had
If you have a smaller bush hog, it may work better in that slick area, less weight to push you down the hill. Also maybe with a tractor with newer rear tires.
When you start sliding the ribs become useless as they are in effect the wrong way round. Its safer to reverse down a hill as the ribs then act as a break. Hope that helps.
Was just watching your new video bud when you got back in your tractor 🚜 started it you should heeld your left brake turned your tire s to the left it would drive right out bud

Is it possible the 4x4 wasn't working? Never had one even slide locked in even with balers. Is the brush hog too heavy for the tractor?
Because we're in very hilly country too, I always keep 50% or more tread on our tractor tires. Tread and weight. The only answer to hills and clay.
I just set my tractor on my fire, could be worse. Tip dont walk away from your tractor when the PTO runs on its max rpm.

had an uncle who lived near big island va who lived on some acreage with a small lake. his house was at the top of a hill and the lake down below hill. not sure why he was driving his 4x4 p/u down the hill towards the lake but it happened to him. fortuneately his truck was stopped by a couple of trees before it could reach the lake. at the time i don't think he was in the truck. he got out to look at something and yes the hill had recently been rained on. be extra careful on wet hills.
Great video!👍🏻
change tires pleas
Bush hogging down hill can be tricky been pushed several times by the bushhog but in the wet ground and near wet leaves can get scary.
You shoulda took your cylinder stops out of mower to where it could hit the ground and that weight of mower woulda been the best brakes You could of had
Did you get any ticks on walking that tall grass???
Not that I know of
If you have a smaller bush hog, it may work better in that slick area, less weight to push you down the hill. Also maybe with a tractor with newer rear tires.
I got a good laugh out of this. Did you pinch a hole in the seat.
Haha
When you start sliding the ribs become useless as they are in effect the wrong way round. Its safer to reverse down a hill as the ribs then act as a break. Hope that helps.
Hey bud. You are a lucky man. Could have been a lot worse. Looks like you could use some new rear tires.
Glad you're okay
Was just watching your new video bud when you got back in your tractor 🚜 started it you should heeld your left brake turned your tire s to the left it would drive right out bud
No too slick, I couldn’t even hold just one brake without the tractor sliding down into the trees more
@@DLHFarms when I know it's slick I try going up hill as much as possible
