One thing about it sleeper dude we the fans all know that it's actually a Hot rod drag racer car for real sleeper dude didn't you think about this fact brother
Its a shame you couldnt go to a roller cam and that way have less issues you have with a flat tappet. What brand of cam did you use? There is no way to build a reliable race engine with less than heavy duty race parts. You also need a dial bore gage to check your cylinders for roundness and taper. I have a fowler digital dial bore gage new in the box if you are interested let me know.Look up the new price and make me an offer.I just want someone to get use out of it.

Josh- You have been misinformed about Ford water pumps. They come in both CW and CCW configurations... they've been doing it for years. The reverse models are used mostly in marine and equipment applications. That is a hard-learned fact, and they will cause problems similar to what you are dealing with! Do ya recon you could get a mule, cow, and maybe a turkey to roam around 'yer shop too??? God knows how many manuals, gaskets and such those goats have ate when no one was looking! I realize they are more pets than critters to the family, but it drives me nuts every time I see the 4 legged garbage disposals munching away on potentially important stuff. God Bless, and Be Safe! edit: If you put a stinkin' chevy engine in that Ford, I'm gonna bribe that piglet to chase y'all around the shop. Some things just ain't natural, brother.
Today, my wife who is on a ventilator and I discovered your channel while reminiscing about her old falcon. We looked up a video about restoration, and found and feel in love with your family. You two are doing an amazing job with you kids, and we pray you all have good health and blessed future.
When I was a teenager, one of my best friends had a Fairmont Futura like that. The only difference was, it was dark metallic orange - we called it The Golden Chariot. And yes, it was a hand-me-down from his grandma. I think we actually spent more time pushing that car then riding in it.
Messing up is how we learn anyway. In the 70s I owned 2 speed shops. Roller cams were for all out race cars. Car manufactures did not make them. My customers had two main issues. First was vacuum leaks which would signal the usually holley carb to open the power valves, run rich and wash lube off the cylinder walls. Problem 2 was cams being wiped out. When I sold one new, I always included a tube of moly di-sulfide for break in lube. But theres more. Use it straight, dont blend it with oil no matter what you tube says. Most cam manufacturers have catalogs or a site that should say this. Its not as critical on a roller cam, but some spring pressures can be high, so may still use it. With flat tappet cams its a must. Used cams is a crap shoot. Good luck. Plus you rarely get the best choice for your purpose. Most want a cam that is too much for the street. It may sound cool, but poor driveability is not a good trade off. Before starting make sure the battery is charged and timing is set, to avoid cranking on a new cam. Make sure there is gas in the carb, etc. And water in the radiator. I know, these are basics but its how cams get ruined. The idea is an immediate start and take the engine to about 2000 rpm or so for 15 minutes or more. Major cam manufacturers usually have their own guidelines. I dont know if you calculated your compression ratio, but its a good idea when using domed pistons. Using a lower initial compression ratio has some advantages including easy starting on the street. It also gives flexibility to crank up the boost. Those new heads from a reputable company are not an expense, they are an investment that increase reliability, and prevents the need to tear an engine down from faulty used parts to get it running properly. Many used part such as cams, carbs and engines assembled by others are risky. Finding a reputable machine shop that has a good reputation for professionally building both street and race engines is a must. Even if you need to ship parts. Something as simple as reconditioning rods that usually needs to be done can save having to buy a new rotating assembly. Its an investment that prevents doing things twice. How your kids are interested in the cars is kind of different. Its refreshing to see family involvement in todays world. Its great to see. They are learning how to think and how decision making works which will help prepare them for the world. You channel has things that many can relate to so I wish you all success.
I have been building engines for over 30 years, and I don't use anything but a roller cam/hydraulic roller lifter setup. I have nothing against a solid setup as I used to use it quite often, but regardless of the manufacturer, finding a good solid lifter these days is a crap-shoot. You may as well spend the money on lottery tickets. Btw, I believe I mentioned a possible water passage issue on your last video covering this engine. Good luck, and keep pushing ahead.
I went thru two big blocks in a row, with solid roller cams. went back a 3rd time and changed back to solid lifters with the oil hole on the bottom of the lifter, been together now for 20 years. all the metal has gone thru your bearings, so don't just put the engine back together without going thru your bearings. they might be fine, but make sure you check.
I had a Twin Turbo 454 with a banks system on my 33" 1996 Airstream Land Yacht and High speed tires 10 ply Michelene. I went for the Guiness Book World Record on top speed with it and it went 128.9mph. It was the fastest Motorhome on record. No one tried to ever beat me. I still had pedal left but that was my limit. That Motorhome lasted a long time I sold it in 2010. It got 14mpg with the boat on the back. You could cruise it at 95 on a long straight away. One hundred fifty gallon fuel tank and a 6kw generator to run both A/C's and I treated the engine with Slick 50 never had a problem. In 2015 the owner disassembled the engine after 80k miles and it was absolutely clean inside and out and the Trans had minute wear. He still has it and that thing will run. He spent ten grand getting it disassembled and said it was just like throwing the money away it needed nothing. Had to put a high volume fuel system.

I think you should give the cam shaft to Ralphie for a special welding project. Will he make it into a shift lever for his truck? Will he make it into a pair of candle sticks for a Mother's Day gift? Only 'The Welder' knows.... 🤔
I've been binging on some of the older video and Josh needs to bring back the little, tiny plastic hand when demonstrating things....lmao You guys are great.
@@glenryan6569 Not sure who started it, but it always cracks me up when he explains something seriously and then all of a sudden, the tiny hand enters the frame....lol
I wish to nominate wah for junior mechanic of the year. She has a good touch when handling delicate parts like a camshaft, and she's certainly not afraid to get her hands dirty. All this while remaining a classy young woman. The Ralphie seems to be getting a bit lazy (just joking, Ralphie) and the Squeezy gal is off to the side somewhere just dreaming and painting. Thanks for sharing all the good automotive tips with us. You and Marge have a great family thing going. We really enjoy your show
Why would YT do that to this great family content? You can't save me from myself! I'm going to go do something something questionable anyhow, and this fine family had nothing to do with it! Thank you for all the great videos!
I absolutely love the how the kids get involved in all the work. Thank you all for working so hard to entertain us. You are truly the best parents ever
Use lifters made by Delphi. They have a darker bottom on them. I sipped a new cam about a month ago and it looked exactly like yours did. Seen countless RUclips videos from machine shops and my local machine shop and they will definitely raise your odds of not hurting the cam. Keep up the great job!!
I really enjoy you telling all the stuff as you take the motor apart, you really teach all the people some basics and all the important stuff that slips by even some of the best engine builders I know. You guys rock in teaching all the interested people that want to learn. The animal family helping you is great. This is really getting to be a interesting and learning channel . Keep up the good work and your subscribers will grow.
Thanks to my favorite RUclips family ! Y’all have figured out an awesome thing by combining the whole family and all the car stuff together. Super relatable folks. Thank you for that.
Thank you for all you do I love to watch your whole family do these projects every week. My son is now 25 and just starting to get a little interest for me to teach him. I am a machinist and now doing engines again and still love it. My Father was a master machinic and I learned from him and went beyond to become a machinist. I would like to see squeezy get a bigger motorcycle I think she has outgrown the one she has.
Man those wheels look awesome. My face hurts at the end of all your videos because it’s just smiles all the way through 😂. Such a great family. The white caps for sure
You are supposed to turn the regulator on the leak down tester disconnected till the right gauge stops at “SET” and use that pressure on the left gauge as a test pressure. With all the ones i have had was generally 35-40psi, if you disconnect and reconnect the air without backing the regulator all way off then the gauges are likely wayyy off and inaccurate now.
hay Josh for getting the really flat surface you can buy a piece of MDS board which is flat within a thou or two then put a piece of glass on top of that the spray contact cement and stick 1000+ wet sanding paper you can make it as big as you need to forgetting the heads flat or anything i do this to get my wood chisel razer sharp and its SUPER cheap
That pig is a direct descendant of the herd that Jesus cast the unclean spirits into that then ran off the cliff and into the sea. I love animals but I’d keep an eye on that rascal as it continues to get bigger.
What a wonderful car you are in with !!! Nice ride and please DON'T LOOSE the DOG DISHES, those are hard to find and I think look the BEST. Thank you for your presentation
Ok so I’m not just the only one who has used a small kids pool to drain fluids into Ive even used tampons once or twice before to stop automatic transmission lines from leaking lol
Hi Josh, this is your long time. Viewer need to see you having enough money to buy quality parts now it’s just really a hard learned lesson. You’ve been up and down all these years but it’s really cool to buy heads in a cam like that. I’m very happy for you guys thank you buddy for all the great shows you guys put out.
So proud of you breaking the straight edge out and checking the surfaces you have to anytime you get them hot or rebuilding a engine and you are correct if this wasn’t a turbo car and you were running a thicker gasket you can get away with 3 to 5000 The new heads with the thicker decking will alow you to put more boost also with less off a chance to fail great upgrades don’t remember what head studs you are using but spend the money for some arp studs and definitely get roller cam and lifters Keep the videos coming
1:02:25 The hubcaps with white background are from '57 Ford. Dad bought a new Ford Wagon in '57 when I was 5 years old. I road in the third seat everywhere we went.
Don't worry Josh...learning cost money, and comparing to college, I still think you're under budget on this one...lol...Great video, thanks for sharing.
thanks for another fun episode today was fun happy you found out what was going on with this red car a lot of work . them wheels look good we liked the small hubcaps red rims looks sweet the cylinder heads are super nice that black intake is amazing . !!! josh you and tosh are like pea and carrots with them kids on these projects we have so much fun watching
I've seen multiple videos of lighter fluid pops to seat beads. Nothing controversial there. Also have seen multiple videos of complaints about chinesium valve lifter failures. Great videos! Much enjoyed!
Josh, I can tell you were holding back your excitement when you pulled out those new Trick Flow heads. Wow!! Definitely went all out on those! Very nice!! C’mon.
I don't know, but according to Steve Morris, Cometic head gaskets should never be used in applications over 900-1000 hp. Also, Comp Cams has been having some serious QC issues lately. The cam lobes should be slightly crowned to promote lifter rotation, and they're not. Heat treat issues with the lifters, also. I've seen better results with Isky lately in flat tappet, but you should consider going hydraulic roller. The cam profiles are much better for boosted applications. You may be able to run a spacer behind the throttle body to gain clearance for your thermostat housing. Good luck, and another great video, brother!

Sometimes you can take out the valve core, remove air chuck from coupler. Push coupler against valve core to get max air pressure inside casing. Also just saw w vid where guy uses pool noodle to close gap between sidewall and rim but he used a bead blaster as noodle was too short. Great video. Always entertaining and informative. Take care dude family.

Glad the block and bottom end didn’t get hurt. Trick flow makes some amazing products glad to see them helping you out. Love all the content on your channels
You need to get some Baby Moons for the hubcaps. simple chrome caps would look good, I do like the black ones but those large ones are the ultimate sleeper caps.
YO!!!!! Dude, make sure you have the right head gaskets. I build a LOT of big blocks. All big blocks are not the same and different years require different head gaskets. Earlier must have both openings in the back, Later have one but, at least one large opening. Make sure you have flow in the back. Check the Fel pro instructions for different years/ head gaskets/ kits.
Thank you for the Trickflow head comparison . They really are quality with beef in the right places for peace of mind. The labor involved in fixing/replacing can by far outweigh paying a few bucks more for a quality product.
Ralphie you made me laughing when you started talking about crank bearings your dad didn't hear 🙉 about that! Great call on wheels for Fairmont it's killer looking !!!!! Plus great call on cylinder head choices!
Before we got a tire machine, we used take a bicycle inner tube and inflate it on top of the exposed bead. Also if you get tires that sit for awhile, stick some rolled up cardboard inside to push the sidewalls out. Cant believe they didnt let you show the ether trick!!!
Whens the Sleeper and Puddin build coming?😂 👏🏾👏🏾WOOOOOOO!!! P.S. Sorry about the unsuccessful break-in. And wth yt? Funniest thing you've ever seen, but she NEVER got stuck, i can tell you that! 😅😅 Good job on the Fairmont, guys! I'm looking forward to seeing her back running again! Thanks for sharing!! 😎
I pretty much knew it was a blocked water passage from day one. I've had this same issue like 30 years ago. Ford was good for making changes that don't let you use the same gasket on different heads and blocks. Always pay attention to match the hole sizes.
Well since u got the grille out....I always thought the 2 headlight grille was prettier than the 4 ..They never put them on the Futura coupes but l think it would be impeccable..as soon as u get that engine sussed out..Thanx for another fun and informative visit to Sleeperdude land..

Ya RUclips and other platforms are too strict on a lot of things. It’s too bad cause I’d like to have seen you mounting those tires using the fire method. Great video everyone!!!
Not sure what you used for lifters. But with flat tappet I always use Crower with the oil hole in the bottom. You lose couple a pounds of oil pressure but they save the lobes.
Fantastic video! Love the thorough teardown and explanation. Shame on youtube for such censorship. We're being kept in the dark more and more. God Bless!
I was looking at the contact points on the lobes of the cam were off .I think part of the.problem was the cam .I wonder if it wasn't the wrong cam....weird.
Josh. I will tell you a trick on flatten sidewalls . On the tires. If you're mounting 2 or 4 casing. Put intertubes in the, tire's the day before air them up until the sides of the tire's are expanding out way past the rim size...

Great Video, my Wife and I were waiting. I can't wait till you get it running. It should fly.❤
Thank you
Sure enjoy watching the family get things done.
I think you should give the cam shaft to Ralphie for a special welding project. Will he make it into a shift lever for his truck? Will he make it into a pair of candle sticks for a Mother's Day gift? Only 'The Welder' knows.... 🤔
That would make a wicked shifter for the Vette if he cut it down.
Hanging out with ya'll is the highlight of my life! Love you folks! Thanks so much!!!!!!!
I've been binging on some of the older video and Josh needs to bring back the little, tiny plastic hand when demonstrating things....lmao You guys are great.
Who started the little hand on a stick, Sloppy Mechanic was doing lots of years ago.
We really enjoy your show
Thank you I will let her know!!
Why would YT do that to this great family content? You can't save me from myself! I'm going to go do something something questionable anyhow, and this fine family had nothing to do with it! Thank you for all the great videos!
Thank you
And we all know country of origin for substandard parts. Little late for that.
Wow so much ridiculous censorship...

Ok thanks
I really enjoy you telling all the stuff as you take the motor apart, you really teach all the people some basics and all the important stuff that slips by even some of the best engine builders I know. You guys rock in teaching all the interested people that want to learn. The animal family helping you is great. This is really getting to be a interesting and learning channel . Keep up the good work and your subscribers will grow.
I sure hope so thank you
I've heard of lipstick on a pig but never toenail polish. Cracking me up.😂😂😂

Thanks to my favorite RUclips family ! Y’all have figured out an awesome thing by combining the whole family and all the car stuff together. Super relatable folks. Thank you for that.
Thank you
Please do the paint correction soon! I cant wait to see how good that paint cleans up.
Yes 👍
Thank you for all you do I love to watch your whole family do these projects every week. My son is now 25 and just starting to get a little interest for me to teach him. I am a machinist and now doing engines again and still love it. My Father was a master machinic and I learned from him and went beyond to become a machinist. I would like to see squeezy get a bigger motorcycle I think she has outgrown the one she has.
Awesome thank you
that squee painting at the start was suhweet. Really nice.
Thank you
Question please. How far below Sweetwater and Madisonville are you folks?
The steelies with the caps are the hot trend. I like em. DO NOT THROW AWAY/SELL/LOSE those Centerlines!
Yes!!!
Thanks for sticking with this great project, I envy your patience with it. Frank from Pennsylvania
Glad to see TRICK FLOW catch the bus on this deal.

Yes super excited
I love all the fur babies and thank you for giving them all a loving forever home. ❤
Thank y'all for the great videos love showing them to my 2 year old she loves cars again thanks from an American living in the Philippines
Awesome thanks
Man those wheels look awesome. My face hurts at the end of all your videos because it’s just smiles all the way through 😂. Such a great family. The white caps for sure
Why would youtube make you exclude countries of origin? Odd!
Very curious about that myself
The world has a whole thing about avoiding the truth
The parts come from Panda Land. I’m sure they can say that and get by with it
Man i can't WAIT to see this beauty back on the road. One of my favorite cars you have.
You are supposed to turn the regulator on the leak down tester disconnected till the right gauge stops at “SET” and use that pressure on the left gauge as a test pressure. With all the ones i have had was generally 35-40psi, if you disconnect and reconnect the air without backing the regulator all way off then the gauges are likely wayyy off and inaccurate now.
hay Josh for getting the really flat surface you can buy a piece of MDS board which is flat within a thou or two then put a piece of glass on top of that the spray contact cement and stick 1000+ wet sanding paper you can make it as big as you need to forgetting the heads flat or anything i do this to get my wood chisel razer sharp
and its SUPER cheap

Hi Josh, this is your long time. Viewer need to see you having enough money to buy quality parts now it’s just really a hard learned lesson. You’ve been up and down all these years but it’s really cool to buy heads in a cam like that. I’m very happy for you guys thank you buddy for all the great shows you guys put out.
I didn’t mean Josh I meant Mr. sleeper
Man, you and your family are inspiration for me.
Wow, thank you
"Une famille soudée et unie" how we say in French, an exemple for most of us
So proud of you breaking the straight edge out and checking the surfaces you have to anytime you get them hot or rebuilding a engine and you are correct if this wasn’t a turbo car and you were running a thicker gasket you can get away with 3 to 5000
The new heads with the thicker decking will alow you to put more boost also with less off a chance to fail great upgrades don’t remember what head studs you are using but spend the money for some arp studs and definitely get roller cam and lifters
Keep the videos coming
I love the upgrades to the Fairmont, nice work Team! I've determined that my favorite Sleeperdude project car is the one your working on that day! 😂
Thank you we appreciate it
You may know this but if you use distilled water in your engine it won't rust the block out in the water passages
Ok thanks

The pedicure on miss piggy … 😅 too funny!
I love it!! Only Wawa would think of painting the piggies piggies 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for the Trickflow head comparison . They really are quality with beef in the right places for peace of mind. The labor involved in fixing/replacing can by far outweigh paying a few bucks more for a quality product.
Ralphie you made me laughing when you started talking about crank bearings your dad didn't hear 🙉 about that! Great call on wheels for Fairmont it's killer looking !!!!! Plus great call on cylinder head choices!
Thank you really appreciate it
Before we got a tire machine, we used take a bicycle inner tube and inflate it on top of the exposed bead. Also if you get tires that sit for awhile, stick some rolled up cardboard inside to push the sidewalls out. Cant believe they didnt let you show the ether trick!!!
Whens the Sleeper and Puddin build coming?😂
👏🏾👏🏾WOOOOOOO!!!
P.S. Sorry about the unsuccessful break-in. And wth yt? If i had $1 for every video ive seen someone mounting a tire with ether... its a legit way to get the job done. And of course you need to know what youre doing. 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️But I guess all in all you got more content for the channel🤷🏾♂️

Yah for sure
Hi guys, really hope the engine build goes well for you this time with those new heads. Enjoying watching the progress on the Falcon as well.

If I HAD said that the cam wasn't goinna last, i wouldn't feel good about being right.

New cams these days are a crap shoot, doesn't matter if it's top of the line or a eBay special, you run the risk of a lobe going flat during break-in
@@dave1135yup, I wiped out a cam in 5 hours of run, wore 4 lifters down 1/4”!
Got another cam in and it broke in just fine, and then it drops a piston and the wrist pin punched a hole in the block. Joy.
Hey Sleeperdude,
Glad you figured out what was wrong with the Fairmount. Love the new headers you got for it. It should run great after you put the new cam in her. Get a 31-30 carburetor for Wa's beetle. I put one my 73 Superbeetle and it runs awesome. Good luck my friend.

Loveing the Fairmont on the steel wheels. The Dynamics your family has is awesome.
I wouldn't be happy knowing at that the crank bearing would be swimming in all that muck oil.
Ok thank you
Fantastic video! Love the thorough teardown and explanation. Shame on youtube for such censorship. We're being kept in the dark more and more. God Bless!
It’s cool that you guys figured it out and what the issue was
For sure
For sure but it could have been worse than that and by the way I really do like watching your channel and all of the projects you have and family
