Hey guys! As promised for a long time, I rerecorded my piano cover The Call of Ktulu one more time. The first video (back in 2016) was good - from my own performance. But during the day of recording basically everything went wrong - main camera didn't work, horrible lightning, off sync video. Still 25000 views today and a big hype in 2018. Happens when you record after midnight :-) I hope you guys enjoy this new video. I must say this song lends itself to classical style so well. Cliff Burton the original author of this was classically trained and was very well versed in music theory. He's the reason Metallica was so good in their first 3 albums. He was gone too soon but the music we did get was beautiful
Always interesting to hear people refering to "classical style" or something similar. Being a classically trained pianist myself, I don't really see a classical style in Metallica. They are very melodious, especially compared to a band like Slayer, as an example. And the individual instruments all have their own touch and importance. That's where it stops for me - but that's just my opinion. Metallica works amazingly on the piano, that's why I cover them so much.
@@YannickStreibert Your comment sounds kind of weird to me, cause I've heard from another classically trained musician that some Metallica songs or at least part of them have classical features, as well as the structure of some songs like Orion, or Fade to Black for example, are similar to classical pieces. Sounds like you're biting the hands that feed you.
Hi, sorry if I gave you a bad impression with my replies. I am not trying to put somebody down, I just love these comments to share different opinions and mine mostly differs a bit as you might have seen. I personally don't know any classical pieces that Metallica used in their songs, but bands like Symphony X used them a lot. If you know any, let me know. I'm glad to learn something new😊
@@YannickStreibert Elizabeth Zharoff, Opera singer, mentioned on her videos/reactions of Fade to Black, Master of Puppets and No Leaf Clover that the intro and interlude, and the structure in general in the first one has very classic features, the medium section on the second one as well, and in No Leaf Clover there's plenty of similarities with classic compositions. Michael Kamen, conductor of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra also mentioned on the video of the making of S&M part 1, how he looked for the Metallica songs with more classical sound to be selected for the concert.

It bears a lot of similar to Romantic-era music especially. Orion is an unusual combination of Baroque harmonies with Romantic composition
