So many families suffer monsters in their midst. This story of an intelligent girl at childhood's end, who never really had a childhood, in a small town caught in crisis from a serial child predator among them. While coping with an alcoholic, narcissistic father with broken morals from a broken chidhood, she constantly is on guard, which hones her skills in figuring out who the town's monster is. This brilliantly worded tale excellently read to us, takes us on a journey where monsters don't always get to stay hidden in the shadows. A brave young girl is Cassie. I see her growing up to be an FBI Detective or ANYTHING she wants to become. ❤ Unstoppable. Thanks for this great listen. 🎉 Much enjoyed!!
Overall a good book to listen to. Wish the author wrote an epilogue about what happen to the family, the father and the person responsible of the kid napping.
I’m so lucky I was in my 20’s before I became aware of the monsters who harm children. I can’t wrap my brain around how sick one must be to do such things.
Good book but I'm left wondering if the dad was doing sinister things to the elder daughter and if he had designs on the younger? Wasn't she coming back for his funeral? A few loose ends sadly
Listen,I am confused….it is looking like Cassie had experiences with the dad of her own from earlier time but she is such a unreliable witness, maybe because of her age I can see people asking to investigate her perspective a little bit more
8:09:39 Cassie says it right here that Dad is hurting her older sister and he's not going to stop and he's going to come for Cassie eventually, too. Were you guys not listening to that particular part, or not understanding the implication?
The dad character is described as an alcoholic narcissist. There's a suggestion of sexual abuse in childhood for both parents which explains the mother's apparent blindness to her husband harming their daughters that way. Cassie, the younger, describes this threat from him with words innocent of knowing the deed but defining it as devouring. So many families suffer monsters in their midst.
I respectfully disagree. 'There' being implied is sufficient without the need for further description. I would suggest that this form of fiction writing is not what you are seeking.

It is a blessing to go through childhood unsullied. Abuse is worse than cancer.
I want to know what happened between the parents. Was Cassie still afraid of dad. Did he get Sober? So many questions. I did like this book

Tomato soup... grodieeee
I'm grossed out that they actually put raisins in the cinnamon rolls.
THAT’S what grosses you out!!
😂
@barbcord but it is really gross to put raisins in cinnamon roles...like, really REALLY gross.😖🤗
Really good book, but it is a lot of fill in,I mean if you are going to go there,go there.but some people like the mystery of not knowing so I guess
