    Some Folks don't realize just how great Carlos is. His intense guitar playing through all these years, all the tunes, all kinds of music flows from the Holy Spirit through his heart and soul and comes through to us through his fingers. He could be playing a $20 guitar and we would still feel it. Peace You All.

      How great Carlos 'was' would be a better statement, post 1990 it's all been downhill, he's a parody of his 70's and 80's self these days.

      @@greatunz67 I don't think you are being fair to him. Who among us can do what we could do 30 years ago at the same level as we could do then? Even though he now makes his living based on his past glory days, he still tries to keep his music fresh and entertaining for his audiences.

    In 1974, I saw Santana for the first time at the Aragon Ball room, when I was in high school. My friend and I sat on the back of a folding chair at a venue that held, at most, 2000 people. While I since become fluent in Spanish, we were the only 2 at the concert that didn't speak Spanish. I've seen a lot of concerts in my day, but this was the best. A truly great and gifted musician. I love Latin culture.

      first off, Carlos is on fire in this vid........ holy smokes! secondly, you're right but i have never seen CS without an ensemble of killer musicians around him depending on what musical phase he was in, and 3rd, even though I was too young too appreciate it then, his early lineup highlighted in the 1970 live at tanglewood is insane.

    • @greatunz67
      @greatunz67 2 года назад

      @@taboty nope, this was the start, the lineup had so many changes but the ultimate was once they had the trio of Raul Rekow/Armando Peraza, and Orestes Vilato on percussion, their combination with Graham Lear on drums was the best percussion section in history. All of their lineups from 76 to 85 were amazing, if only they would have kept Tom Coster on keys instead of Chester Thompson though, Coster was a much better player with far more vast of a sound than Thompsons chirpy casio sound.

    • @Seventysongs
      @Seventysongs 8 лет назад

      Got it! I agree with most of you mentioned and also had estranged the lack of Holdsworth and Akkerman, for example. Even though I am a fan of Mark Farner (in my adolescence in the early 70s, I was a big fan of Grand Funk), Joe Walsh and Rick Derringer, my admiration for them is mainly as composers and not just as guitar players. John Cipollina I really did not like and Toy Caldwell, (I was also a fan of the Marshall Tucker Band for a while) .. well, I never considered a great guitar player! I did not understand about Rory Gallagher because I know of his importance as an innovative, among other things. But it is normal, there are some that are considered gods and don't tell me virtually nothing, but most of you also mentioned are my idols too!

    These Yamaha guitars were WAAAAY better than the Les Pauls Gibson was putting out in the Norlin era. I read that this guitar was designed just for Carlos and he rejected the first 10 they made for him. I wish he'd pick one back up again.

      I've only been to 5 Santana concerts. The first one I was at was in 1975 when I was 9 years old. May parents loved them.
