Props to Kimmy Yap doing a thorough hazard assessment of the Schweitzer hale in the background…😉🤣 In all seriousness, great tips on self-awareness, Zane. 👏🏻👏🏻
Great reminders in this video of how to prepare for longevity in a water sport of choice!! Sometimes I get butterflies before heading out, especially in winter, and it is easy to forget an important piece of equipment. Taking the time to assess your person before heading out is so key.
Great interview. Encouraging a helmet and a pfd/life vest/impact vest are great safety items that I see many people not having. And a $5 whistle to attach to your pfd/life vest to get some more attention if you need.
God point to think about. For me is the spot checking the first thing I do. Wind and Waves and the surface under water. I talk to other locals, to learn from them, when I Wing an new spot. Thanks guys👌🏼
Loved what was said about taking a critical look at both your gear and the potential risks of your environment...... other craft... rocks... currents... what if shit happens ... before you go... thanks guys..
Thanks guys thought provoking vlog. ‘The ocean will always win, respect it’ wise words often forgotten. It’s tricky on those bigger days when your still lower on the learning curve and keen to progress to decide on bailing on a session especially when you’ve had to travel / duck out of domestic chores etc. Those are the days that I’ve got worked but been lucky injury wise but really not progressed my wing foiling at all & broken kit😢
My man here is an amazing poet, writer, and a storyteller!!! If he wrote ANY book (say some scary stories about wingfoiling), I would buy it in a heartbeat! Heck if I was super rich, I would even bet my advance writers fee on him!
Seems all 100% logical and common sense, but unfortunately if it comes down to winging/watersports, we all turn into little kids who don't give a damn about risk assessments. It's the hardest part to say no if the conditions are above personal abilities. But yeah there are defo some things to check before, like weather forecast and options when failing. For you and your surrounding.
