This just reaffirms that we made the decision to camp halfway up and do it in 2 days. Might help with acclimatization too. It was still a grind! Congrats!
Are you planning a Mt. Shasta summit soon?? And if you've summited before, how'd it go? 2 things I left out: 1. I talked to two different people that did a one day ascent and ended up taking a nap at the summit because they were so exhausted lol 2. This is the worst sunburn I've ever received. I didn't think Misery Hill was aptly named, at all! It was a nice, steady, gentle uphill walk, not at all like from Helen Lake to the Red Banks, where I took about five steps, stopped to breathe heavily, took five more steps, etc. When I went thru the Red Banks and arrived at the base of Misery Hill, it was an easy walk to the Summit from there. One of the great days in my life! This was many years ago, in mid-October, dry all the way except for the level summit snowfield.
@@ChadLubinski if you have not yet climb Longs peak in Rocky Mountain national park, it is a must do. Super exposed! It’s my favorite fourteener by far. Not too difficult either
You went up on the 17th? I have been watching the weather reports, and it has been showing 60-70mph winds and -30f temps. Is the report incorrect? Looks like the weather was mellow? I made a one day attempt on April 2nd, but bailed shortly after Helen lake, because the wind was too strong. Looking to try again ASAP.
I tried a one day yesterday, kicked my ass bailed at helen lake. The climb was okay u til then but I was just falling asleep because I had 1 hr of sleep in me before starting at 1 am. Get a good 8 hrs sleep if you’re gonna do a 1 day ascent !
Nice video! I'm doing it this weekend. questions: which route did you take to redbanks? did you go to the left or right of the the heart? how did you decide which route to take?
@@ChadLubinski it was great! I went to the right of the heart and immediately took the first chute up the redbanks area. The weather was beautiful! I was the only one camped at Helen lake the night before so that was a bit weird!
This was early April believe it or not! They did get a bunch of snow about a week after I went that got it back down to the parking lot. Don't know about recently though.
@@ChadLubinski Got it. personally I think Whitney Trail is easy but Mountaineers routes is actually hard. How much harder than Whitney trail would you say it is
@@dant3113 well it’s apples to oranges. I was on the JMT when I did Whitney, and barely brought any gear up with me because I base camped in Crabtree. No snow either. This one I had skis, crampons, helmet.. so much more weight. But yeah Shasta was definitely more difficult and more technical. Same type of altitude sickness tho
I like how you said you had no mystic lemurian encounters.

Good job, glad you stayed the night and rested before a push to summit. That is wisest for most.

2 days is for sure the best way! Wasn’t that fun in 1 haha. Thanks for watching man!
Congratulations on summiting and descending safely!
Very nice footage and narration too. Thank you! 😊
Hey thanks for watching!! Sorry for there not being many clips… didn’t feel to well 😅

What time did you start in the morning? Total time car to car? Thanks for the great footage and comments!!!
Hey thanks Mark!! We started pretty late.. 415 😐
I descended Shasta is a little over an hour. It’s really an easy mountain to climb. No boulder hopping, no lakes. It’s a breeze

Nah we went April 7! We had been watching the weather too… absolutely crazy wind speeds the days proceeding and after

A little after 4am I believe

I prefer doing the one day push. Only because I get hypothermia at Helen lake and hate boiling snow for water.
bro totally get the hate boiling snow for water lmao its the worst
