  • So it surprised me a little when I found out that you can even see other planes with fairly good clarity using the Viggen ground radar. Ground targets are also easy to detect and distinguish from the ground clutter, which feels a bit strange as I doubt it would be that easy to find them in real life.

    Thanks! That's very useful! 🙂

I have questions Badjoe please. Any advantage to using the Bscope mode (A2 radar mode) if i want to spot airborne targets? Would raising the antenna help?
Since the last update of July3rd has bugged the Rb75's EP13 sight (should be fixed in the next one) , i am experimenting with the Akan gun pods since they can be paired with bombs.
After a DYK bombing run i like to look for air targets and wondered if i can make this radar work for air-to-air against Mig21's and F5's and engage with canons. This would allow me to have more firepower aside from the 2 Rb24j on the wing tips.

Hmm, I don't think there is any real advantage to using Bscope in the Viggen as all it actually does is give you a closeup of what the currently selected waypoint looks like. I'm not sure if that's how it is supposed to work so I don't think it helps much in detecting air to air targets the same way an actual Bscope would do. And using the radar to find air targets in general is pretty risky as it will give away your position to the enemies without you being able to identify them in any real way. If you're already detected though it can be sort of useful to get a general idea of where the enemy is before looking for him visually as the radar can't really lock on to the enemy in any useful way other than to get basic range data for cannons and sidewinders.

Hi ! What are your feelings about the new Ground Radar 2.0 ? Thanks !

I haven't taken much of a look at it since the last update this week as it was kind of blurred out at longer ranges which has apparently been fixed now. But it is very cool I think with all the details even though it is much harder to find ground targets with it now that many terrain features and structures also appear on it.

@@Badjoe117 For me at longer ranges it was a performance problem. Big stutter and freezes when radar range set at 160km. Didn't tried it since.

@@jowenjv4463 I used to have alot of problems in DCS 2.5 when I set the range to max on the radar, alot of stuttering as it scanned the terrain. But when I upgraded my RAM to 32GB and got an SSD earlier this month I haven't had the same problems even with the new more detailed radar.

@@Badjoe117 yeah, DCS is on a hdd for me and freezes and stutterare pretty hard. SSD seems to be the solution. However i'm not conviced by 32gb of ram

@@jowenjv4463 I think it is mainly the SSD yeah, but for me I had 98-99% RAM usage on larger MP servers with 16GB so I think it helps in some areas for sure.
