    I received my radio yesterday and took it outside last night for a trial run. I was very pleased! It did very well on AM/FM and shortwave using only the whip antenna. The sound is nice for a radio this size and also sounds good with headphones. It tunes smoothly and I am a big fan so far. My only concern was that the antenna was loose. I found that the mounting screw was loose and possible stripped out. A drop of of locktite solved the problem and it is rock solid now. I used a coupon and some amazon points to get this radio for $2.10 delivered. It is a delight to have a radio perform this well for such a low price. I give this radio a solid recommend so far. Thanks Todderbert for the review!

    Just got my 10kHz step D-219 and tried it on 540 and 570. 540 is even on either 9 or 10, but 9 hits 567 or 576. While both are perfectly happy to lock on to 570, the volume on the new model is much louder on it. On 540, they're both pretty much the same volume. One swipe up on the dial gets you pretty loud for a quiet room on 540, whereas you have to turn the old one to 11 to get it that loud. That's with strong local signals. I'll guess that for weak ones, it might be difficult to get it to lock on a 10x station that's not close to a 9x frequency.

    A good buy for people living in the US for sure. A note about the D-219: I've been to a different spot for some SW listening yesterday evening, and also to watch the fireworks at the Tour Eiffel. So this time high grounds almost touching Paris.
    High grounds in an dense urban area means a lot of FM transmitters around. And this seems to really affect the D-219 that prove to be almost useless in this situation. It was obviously overloading like hell. Even the R-9012 and R-909 were picking up way more stations. My D-109 seemed rather immune too. I really like my D-219, but it's definitely not for place with saturated airwaves.

But i maybe buy the 10kHz version nice to have that if I travel but yes the XHDATA D-219 is a great low cost radio and i love mine. But i agree with you it would have been better if the headphone jack had been placed on the side of the radio i also prefer that and, a tuning light would have been nice. For $8.79 on Amazon I could not resist this. I have an older Radio Shack AM/FM pocket radio that’s nice, but this XHData is a much better performer and is actually not much bigger.
    The D-219 is actually a pretty sensitive little receiver on FM, MW and even SW. For shortwave it’s a little frustrating figuring out what the signal is, but hey- it actually gets SW broadcasts using the whip antenna inside my house. Amazing value for less than $10.

    There was an (elenco?) kit review where you just had to change a resistor value to switch to 10k. I wonder if there’s the same thing, albeit surface mount, in this radio. Of course, the dial would be WAY off, as I imagine the 1710 and 10k are linked in the chip.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  Год назад

      It was the Vigurtime Radio Kit: ruclips.net/video/PZIokjf87tY/видео.html . I'll bet it is the same on most DSP radios. There is even SW capability on most of these AM FM only radios as well. Like the DIY Kit above.

    • @radellaf
      @radellaf Год назад

      @@todderbertI looked at the photo of the 219 circuit board in hackaday, compared with the data sheet and dev kit for the 4825A and, yeah, it’s a resistor ladder. FM2 to AM needs to be 20k vs 30k, am to sw1 50k vs 40k (I think). It’s laid out a little strange with the resistor values not looking like you’d expect (010 - one ohm? really? not 10k?). But, clearly, the right swaps of 2 or 3 Rs would make a 9k a 10k, with the wrong front panel (there is no 10k that doesn’t go to 1710).
      If I wanted to bother, given the price of these, the easy way would be to open the 10k version and see what resistor values they changed, then copy that. Or, just buy another for $15…

      No Power Cable, it shouldn't charge the batteries.

    • @StratmanII
      @StratmanII Год назад +3

      If the DC input socket is the round type, it's meant to directly power the radio without charging the AA (NiMH) batteries. Radios that are able to charge AA batteries internally are usually fitted with a mini or micro USB port.
      You can use externally charged NiMH AA batteries though but these batteries have a nominal voltage of 1.2 volts each. If this radio was designed to accept disposable 1.5v cells, its performance may suffer from the use of 1.2 volt rechargeable cells.
      *Addendum:* Most radios come with an external AC/DC power supply unit, but this is an additional cost to the manufacturer.
      It's common practice for a company like XHDATA to omit the external power supply to keep the radio's price as low as possible. In this case you'll have to provide the 5v AC/DC power supply yourself, keeping in mind of the D-901's input socket polarity.

    • @todderbert

      I would prefer the P26, it tunes so smoothly with its pure analog radio circuit, and it has a lower noise floor.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  5 месяцев назад

      I think your MW stations are 9kHz stepped. This is actually a digital radio with an analog dial. So you are actually "tuning" a digital chip. That is why you need the proper stepping to make sure it lands squarely on the frequency you are trying to tune in.

    Hi Toddy gotta tell you something. XHDATA guys must be colour blind. I have thre same radio and it is supposed to be "DILVER" coloured .I am from India and we follow British English and we write in British English it is COLOUR while in American English it is COLOR and my " coloured" is different than yours . Anyway XHDATA's silver colour is kinda bronze coloured and the radio you have featured here 8s called fret by XHDATA but in the eyes of the whole world is BLACK. The Chinese must be sering things in different colours than we all do. Chinese eyes 😂
