Aussies in the outback know bush fires. Grab a rake and remove all your dry material on the ground right back to the surrounding trees or on to damp ground as far as possible from any structure. Stack your wood well away as well. Clear any grass etc. right back from the structures, a layer of sand around perimeters acts as a barrier. Keep your water tanks full, more if you can afford it. Keep tanks on clear ground near structures. A barrel full of water and burlap sacks handy as well. Wear natural wool under overalls. Heavy boots too. As crazy as it sounds, a circular heavy duty sprinkler at the top and centre of your dome on the greenhouse with a pump and tank inside will help with flying sparks.

Water is a big problem in a lot of states like Montana. Here in North central Louisiana I am sick of almost every day showers. Cannot cut grass without getting stuck
Pretty much the exact same conditions here in northeastern Vermont. Hot, humid and dry as a bone. Living in a woodland like yourself, I do worry about forest fires started by lightning when we eventually get some thunderstorms. Good luck and enjoy canoeing and fishing. Cheers!
Same here at the UP border with WI. No snow late winter, cold spring and now smacked with hot and humid. Began a hillside garden, using 4 small greenhouses. Maybe hope for used window greenhouse later on. Even city water and close enough to walk to grocery. Strawberries in.
Same here in SE Wisconsin. We have passed into severe drought standing, and today the "Dew Point" is 68 - which is rated OPPRESSIVE. It's like trying to breathe all day while exercising full-tilt inside a steam bath. You sweat just standing still, it's that bad. No forests here in my urban neighborhood. And even though it is expensive (but not compared to say, watering in California), I am watering my garden beds and lawns. No substitute for regular rainfall but better than letting the lawn die. Welcome to the new normal. We will have 2 days of "normal" temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday with lower dew point, and then back to living in Hell.
That heatwave with 10 degrees Celsius above the "normal" level, rolled over The Netherlands as well. In contrast with your draught, while hopefully not waiting too long for the supply to dig a well, we've had many rainy days in May, restoring a normal level of groundwater in the Netherlands, after the tropical summer of 2019, when all the trees lost their leaves and all green turned brown in mid summer. This month of May was the coldest in 20 years, and with about 10 degrees Celsius in general , all through that month, we suddenly jumped into 24 degrees around the 4th of June until today. Now it's 21 degrees with a breeze, and clouds hiding the sun at times. Proper Dutch weather. From June 4th, suddenly there was lots of bare skin in town and in our gardens. With swimmers in some of our canals, and divers from bridges. I was lucky to just have finished a new terrace below the stairs of my garden, with branches of beech hanging horizontally over it, bending in a curve, creating a green dome on one side of it. Now I'm able to catch the sun all day, a bit on distance from the home, with a garden on the North side of it. After 30 years I''m excited with this extension, using flagstones given to me by my neighbours, for a flooring, if that's a proper term. Does the greenhouse create condens in the night? If so, do you collect it? Or is the content of the watertank sufficient water storage?

Wow, sorry about the drought, good idea to get all surfaces collecting water, might even want to string a tarp between trees or poles at an angle into a barrel to collect whatever manages to leak out of the skys until your supplies come. I remember my tarp over my table camping up in the mountains at the lake even collecting condensation water from the night air! Hope your supplies come in soon!
Oh you poor thing, you really have been through it. I sympathize both on the water situation and the order. Our water butts have been empty for weeks now, it really has been a dry spring. As for orders, we have the same as deliveries in Italy can be really hit and miss. I hope you get some good rainfall soon to recharge everything. As for the delivery I hope you get it sorted, maybe look elsewhere for the parts of you can.
Hi Shawn, it's the same thing here in Australia, the government wants people to build new houses to keep the country moving but then they can't get what's needed to build a house. My husband was a truck driver delivering glass, for house and shop windows, but he's just retired because there isn't enough work to give him 4 days a week work.
Good water is so important! You need these well's no matter what it costs. Getting sick from drinking bad water is a constant worry and is not worth it!!
I love the dome you built; because you tried something new, stepped outside your confort zone....look into a TYM tractor, as the Guy at Lumnah Acres did...a promo type of deal..maybe use it to grade the land, haul wood, even mill lumber with the right attachment.
The worst day fishing is better than the best day working! Take a day or two off, Shawn. I think we can all agree that you’ve earned it. Speaking of drought and hot weather, it’s supposed to hit 117-118 here in Arizona next week, and we already have massive drought and huge wildfires burning. Hope you stay safe up there.

Hey Shaun, love the channel and especially seeing all your progress. Thanks, as always for the clear explanation for the challenges and opportunities facing you. Sometimes the best ways to address them are from the seat of a canoe!
In Sheboygan county it has been very dry and I am watering my garden every day since mid May. Last night we had thunderstorms and about 8/10ths of an inch of rain. Hope we get out of the drought soon.
Shawn, good luck with the weather. Growing up in tropical Australia, we mostly worked through it. Now I start earlier and take a European approach, staying out of the warmest part of the day. Often it’s the suns rays that make it worse, so I go back out later especially on longer summer days. As for fire risk, what we have learnt here from studying home impacted and not impacted by bushfires, is clearing as much as possible anything that can act as a fire start point close to your buildings/ infrastructure. So wood piles, tinder, dead trees. Good luck with the season, it’s such an early start. Now in southern Australia we are getting early snow, seems weird.
We have a few good size wildfires here in Arizona! Very dry and the entire state is under stage 2 restrictions! Firewise your property! Great video! Time for you to build a fire enclosure such as the oven/kitchen you had at the old cabin!
I watch AGWN for weather reports and he shows the satellite images of how the weather flows. He covers Canada too. Gives a better forecast than those meteorologists on tv.
I will take hot an dry weather over the rain keep having, had 2" earlier this week more coming tonight an Monday. Great videoes, hope seeds working out well.
Incorporating more clay into your garden soil will retain more water for you. Forest soil is notoriously well draining! (Yet I have to incorporate forest humus and sand into my own garden soil!) Great videos. Love watching them and learning. You're a calm and patient teacher, and not given to excessive politics like some are forced to in order to get any attention. We'd soon tire of that idiocy. Thank you for sticking to your passion. Self reliance for its own sake.
go to noble trade in huntsville there a plumbing wholesaler and have a massive distribution center in Toronto they will have all the pipe you require for your well
Are you able to build a collection cistern at one of the cold springs, to at least ensure drinking water continuity? I really enjoy both your channels here in Australia. I'm originally from Finland and can see that Canada is very much like Finland as far as nature is concerned. I love your lifestyle.
Hey Shawn, sorry to hear about your water shortage. Perhaps another shed, orientated for solar panels, containing 2/3 water tanks would help. You could use the solar energy to power a pump so that you could draw water up from the stream (when it's running). You could also add a gutter to increase your water collection when it rains. Also when you are more settled, perhaps you could consider creating a water cystern and pipe system to bring clean water down to the homestead? In those conditions, it might be time well invested in clearing all the dry brush wood and other flammable detrtitis away from the immediate homestead to the tree line to create a fire break. Just in case. Good luck with your endeavours. I hope you have had some rain by now!
I'm sorry to hear about the water issue. Praying you can find answers to your issues. Yay about black flies and mosquitos. You are so awesome. You are very inspiring and I appreciate. Your updates so much. God bless you. Material issues are a problem everywhere. Maybe someone who watches can find you some.

Same hear in BC. Very dry and they are talking about forest fires are possible due to lack of water. I pray you can get your needs met soon for your wells. So important. God bless you Shawn and your family.
I imagine some sort of mote around the greenhouse. Something you can pump to the other holding tanks during or after a good rain. Happy Weekend!
I hear you - we had the same but we've had some rain the last couple days & it's cooled right down - almost feels like autumn - so we're enjoying. Gardens are a ft. high & doing well so far so not complaining... ASK for rain so people can go camping & have a campfire for July 1 camping - 😊 ... ps - check with local home hardware for what you need ... ENJOY your fishing & your summer!
Dear Shawn, YOU DID WELL 👍👍👍. A place for everything ❤ and at the same time, spending time with family 👪 and much loved dear CALI. She is so happy swimming in the river when I saw her in your other video. She is a darling ❤love you all and take care 💋❤
So sorry to hear about your problems, getting ahold of much needed products. Sounds good that you’re spending time with your family,& enjoying time on the water. Hoping the conditions get better for you. Stay safe.💯😀🙋🏽♀️✝️🙏🏾🇺🇸
It's going to be a very dry & hot year Shawn. Good to be thinking in advance about water. Hope you get your well materials soon!!
I live in the big city (Toronto). This past week's heat wave caused tremendous heat stress on my plants. Watered heavy & buried most of my plants under a foot of straw. It helped. I have 10 X 55 gallon water barrels; they're all empty!! Patiently waiting for rain.
hope things work out for you on the well. look forward to your next video
Shawn it’s been really hard here to get the supplies I need as well. We are in severe drought here in New Mexico as well. We are in the 100’s plus for the next couple of weeks. I hope things get better for you and everyone else as well.
Bury a wooden barrel near the top of any spring you find. Leave it alone to grow moss and lay a cover partially over it. You'll be glad you did.
Hope you can find the parts you need. Seems like there's a lot of things that are unavailable during this time. Stay safe, be careful, take it easy and I hope you get rain.
Re: bugs. Have you thought about putting up some BAT HOUSES? A couple of freestanding, pivoting poles would hold at least 4 bat houses and cut bugs down.
They also make excellent stock for soup I've heard
Shawn, I noticed a lot of dust, dirt on the solar panels, you might want to clean those so they get as much sunlight as possible.
Hi again SHAWN
Good to hear your voice and the update. Your history tells me you'll find a way and figure it out cause that's what you do!!! Truly why patience is a virtue as it's said cause sometimes we get uneasy and impatient when our plans are interrupted...
It will be a great relief I'm sure to have those two wells especially when your family comes. Now you'll have a larger amount of edibles too to take of. Happy you're taking the time more often for yourself to get out on the water. One thing for sure you can always have fish for dinner!!!
Thx as always! You're doing great! Stay safe...
Nice conversation Shawn, good luck with the weather.
Good luck Thur this drought of yours!….Enjoy the time with your family!…God bless y’all abundantly and stay safe and healthy!
Looks like a run into the big smoke. Toronto must be a horrible place after living up in the shield. Keep it up man, really love the perspective you provide.
🥰 Good morning.
Things are looking good. I hope you get some good rain soon. Be well. 🙌🙌👍
I live in the Memphis area and we've had plenty of water this spring. I think I've watered my garden once since putting my plants and seeds in the ground. Good luck with your water situation and thanks for doing the audio somewhere other than inside the green house. :)
Happy Saturday My friend June 12 local time 7:30 a.m. temperature 70゚ degrees💯🐕
We are in the middle of a serious drought here in California. For the first time in ages, I’m not planting a garden. Soon our average temperature will be 90-100 degrees. Great video.
Plant some vegetables cause there’s going to be a shortage of food. Plant potatoes in buckets also green beans. Recycle water from your shower or kitchen for your garden.
California's in a drought because they need lots of water to spray off all the poo in the streets of LA and San Francisco.
@@nicb.1411 a drought is not about how much water there when shared, it's about how much water there even exists in an area due to reduced rain and snowfall.

That is hot for June . Pray for some rain for y'all
Hey Shaun, love the channel and especially seeing all your progress. Your video reminded me of something thaty was always just an accepted rule where I come from: That is when you have a specific need for a specific job but don't have the proper tool to get it done...what do ya do...?
You make the tool!
I was niknamed McGuiver from way back for a good reason, because sometimes you just have to get inventive!
Keep up the good work hoss.
I live in northern Manitoba Canada. One hwy in and out . I always have a forest fire go bag, stored fuel, food and water ready to go in an instant. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it!!! Good luck and wishing you well this year Shawn!!!
I own two farms. Fly bags help with the bugs. You can order them online.
Thanks, as always for the clear explanation for the challenges and opportunities facing you. Sometimes the best ways to address them are from the seat of a canoe!
Been hot and dry here in Wisconsin as well. Having to water the garden frequently!
love WISCONSIN , here in normandy very cold !!
SE Wisconsin here! Yes very dry and hot. Constantly watering.
And here in central Alabama my little garden is drowning!🌧
Temps in SE US in lower 90's , Plenty of rain this Spring . MOre than usual .
Hope some comes your way soon !
Lucky to get your great property, good access by land and water. No neighbors too close !
The property is not on a river or a lake.
Between the temperature swings and the humidity index, you could try collecting condensation water.
I LOVE how you separate talk time from work time. Thank you Shawn!
We have a few good size wildfires here in Arizona! Very dry and the entire state is under stage 2 restrictions! Firewise your property! Great video! Time for you to build a fire enclosure such as the oven/kitchen you had at the old cabin!
Your a inspiration and a credit to humanity 🙏
Thanks for the update Shawn.👍
I watch AGWN for weather reports and he shows the satellite images of how the weather flows. He covers Canada too.
Gives a better forecast than those meteorologists on tv.
A great update and nice to hear your perspective as always. 💯❤👍
I will take hot an dry weather over the rain keep having, had 2" earlier this week more coming tonight an Monday.
Great videoes, hope seeds working out well.
An overview of the tasks at hand, summertime's the beginning of the next adventure.
Good luck getting your wells installed soon!! I know that must be extremely frustrating!
SHAWN,The lake's are all dry here also,THE BEAVER'S are doing rain Dances! Stay well and safe to all 🐾❤🐾❤🐾❤🐾❤🐾❤🐾❤☘☘☘☘🐾❤🐾❤🐾❤🐾❤☘☘☘☘☘🐾
Thank you for the freedom unit conversion
Incorporating more clay into your garden soil will retain more water for you. Forest soil is notoriously well draining! (Yet I have to incorporate forest humus and sand into my own garden soil!) Great videos. Love watching them and learning. You're a calm and patient teacher, and not given to excessive politics like some are forced to in order to get any attention. We'd soon tire of that idiocy. Thank you for sticking to your passion. Self reliance for its own sake.
Beautiful
Don't worry. In the winter, figure out a way to convert snow and save it. For plants etc
go to noble trade in huntsville there a plumbing wholesaler and have a massive distribution center in Toronto they will have all the pipe you require for your well
👍
how awesome you are! I have been having the same problems getting stuff. Covid has frozen shipping.
Hope you get rain really soon. 🙏🏻 Beautiful part of the world. 🐾
I heard that we are going to have more rain this summer, if that's correct it will be a blessings. Flowering plants and other herbs needs more rain.
Hello!!! From Brazil 🇧🇷🇧🇷 I Love your videos!!!
hi Shawn and thank you for all the great videos
Are you able to build a collection cistern at one of the cold springs, to at least ensure drinking water continuity? I really enjoy both your channels here in Australia. I'm originally from Finland and can see that Canada is very much like Finland as far as nature is concerned. I love your lifestyle.
Good idea, and also as long as he lives in Canada, he can harvest snow to convert to water too
Be safe Shawn and good luck sourcing parts. Meanwhile enjoy the water and your family. Take care.
The temperatures this week have been in the 90s here in Pennsylvania with high humidity as well ☀️…it broke yesterday though…no problems with rain…☔️
Same here in Omaha Nebraska had a storm yesterday but today back to the heat
Hoping for a good rainy break in your weather! 35 to 40 is no joke! We hit 38 here in this part of Florida today.
