I am a fan of Zeeker and BYD(for its blade battery and DM-i technology). BYD’s DM-i technology is truly amazing, it makes Toyota’s hybrid be like a technolog from the Paleolithic Period. I guess that's why Toyota is gonna adapt BYD’s DM-i technology. Also like competition, that's why Tesla has dropped over $30k in last few years because of Chinese competition. A BYD Seal cost US$30 in Australia but it sells for US$52 in Europe, I think we are lucky in Australia. We can use the saved $22k to make holidays, buy groceries, pay bills, etc. Thanks for competition.
@@deepseer For their cars in China they have, but no commitment to use it in car sold in other markets. My guess is they have financial benefits using China technology in Chinese cars, no real reason to use it elsewhere.
A Chinese car that's 'ACTUALLY' fun to drive? You make it sound like all Chinese cars are NOT fun to drive. I have driven a few Chinese cars recently. They were all fun and pleasurable experiences.
Haha, well you can see I've driven quite a lot of Chinese cars on this channel. Many are very competent, the SEA platform stuff especially, but most are fairly numb to drive, no real feeling, not much through the steering wheel, artificial feel or weight, but this doesn't rely on that, it feels instantly more tactile in your hands when you start moving, and I appreciate it for that. There are other good ones, but this one is better. I haven't driven the Seal yet but I heard that was very good to drive.
Indeed. XPeng are lovely cars, great tech, but Zeekrs ride much better on very rough surfaces and this BYD is a much better driver's car in terms of feeling. Has more feeling than the Zeekrs too.
I think this is the BYD I would be most likely to buy. While they have their premium brands, they are doing a good job bringing up their mass offerings. First to do it was the HAN, this is following that
I wouldn't worry about those, the brands will have factored in Europe's tariffs. Maybe not the US' though. Remember, the only people who suffer from tariffs are customers. The car companies don't pay a single thing more, it ends up on the customer's bill.
I' was watching your review with my wife who was interested ass we have an Atto 3. All was going well until she saw the interior colour. Definitely not a fan of the salmon pink. Looks ok apart from that. It will be interesting to see what the top of the range model will cost in Australia
This car reminds me of the Polestar 4 in design, coupe SUV that's not high off the ground. The interior color should be a bit darker, like a baseball mitt or they could do a red, charcoal or light grey interior. When you mentioned the light front end and TC being sensitive, it reminds me of my KIA Optima Hybrid sedans that came with those tires, good for economy but, not for sporty driving. I switched to Pirelli on 1 and the car drove and handle like a non sport BMW, on the 2017 version with higher torque (270 if I recall), I switched to General G-MAX AS-05, that stopped wheel spin from start and launched the car quite well. Next I added lowering springs to tighten up the handling, made it quicker off the line than my Stinger with that instant torque, just not as fast overall as the Stinger but still fun to drive. I wouldn't mind one of these but, I would be ditching the tires for some Continental, Michelin or Pirelli. It kinda suck that they didn't give it more torque in the RWD version, in this configuration, it's quite similar to the Polestar 4's RWD version, would have liked around 410Nm to have some fun with it. Did you ever get a chance to drive the top spec version?
Just goes to show how much difference tyres can make. Can't remember what tyres this had but BYD often uses Giti and they're not all that. Haven't had chance to drive the dual motor version sadly.
@@InsideChinaAuto They were Kumho EV tires. The Kumho tires I've had do ride comfortable, with low rolling resistance but, were not grippy tires. Had too many close calls and being annoyed by what people considered overly cautious TC and ABS system. Tires are the only things touching the roads, no matter how good the safety systems, if the tires can't grip well, then the safety systems will intervene more to keep us out of trouble. For me, grip and control takes precedent over range. Wrecked my first Stinger trying out more comfortable tires that were rated well but, learned the hard way they were not great in rain and worse in snow. They were great in dry weather. Don't know the Giti brand, have used Bridgestone, Continental, Michelin and Pirelli as OEM tires or upgrades as well as BF Goodrich, General and Nokian (snow tire) as replacements. Looking forward to see the review on the AWD version, hopefully better tires and improved suspension tuning.

Is it better to drive than an Xpeng? It is not possible, otherwise Xpeng Motors should adapt for you and persons like you a specific management of suspensions and way of driving to make you feel as if you were in this vehicle...
No need to adapt to me. XPengs drive very nicely, the P7 has really good balance in RWD form, but they're not as engaging as this, that's just a simple fact. Engaging isn't what everyone wants, many just want comfortable.
They're named after Chinese dynasties so they're not so bad, they just sound odd to outsiders. The ocean series however...well I mean who buys a car called Seagull, even if it's an awesome car.
Much better than I expected to be honest, only really the little bit in the middle is too much and feels a bit eh, but there's soft material in places I wasn't expecting from a BYD.
The words "fun to drive" are empty motoring journalist yap-crap. Most people never drive their cars anywhere stupidly thinking about whether the car itself is "fun" to drive! People want at best to be able to comfortably get to places that get them away from their over-familiar surroundings and 9-5 routines. And to enjoy themselves as much as possible with or without people whose company they genuinely enjoy. Intelligent adults don't necessarily need to have "fun" let alone have "fun" because their means of escape and transport is ostensibly "fun" to drive !! "Fun" is a childishly simple or silly word that motoring journalists and our media by definition robotically over-use and misuse. Paul G
Fun in this context means it's engaging and has some feel, which I personally, regardless of whether it can perform on corners, appreciate as it helps to feel connected to the car. I can equally enjoy the soft, soulless comfort of a Li Auto, but as somebody who enjoys driving I prefer this as it puts a smile on my face. If you'd got that far in the video, you'd see it explained more elaborately than in a limited character title.

And so-called "fun" is largely in the eye of the owner-driver or fun-seeker - but the choice of fun, cheap Chinese EVs that are tragically and by definition only available at low prices in China is endless.
You present and project yourself as an EV expert so I suggest you get yourself some serious full-spectrum research done. You have the same 24/7 web and RUclips access that I have - failing that I strongly recommend that you spend a few weeks in China and meet up with expat EV test-drivers like the down-to-earth guys at China Uncut.
It's taken me 30 secs of unpaid "work" to find just these two "2024 Best Cheap Chinese EVs/eTrucks" RUclips links:

thats a compact SUV. you compared it to the Civic. Byd SEAL is a civic.
Nah, Seal is quite a bit longer than a Civic. This is longer still but has the overall look of a Civic. Doesn't feel like an SUV in my opinion.
Seems very polestar 4 lookalike.
can’t wait to tell you it came out before ps4
What they said.
American evs are so behind lmao
Way too far behind.
Bring it to EU.
but before doing that it needs a upgrade.
Much better charging neded!
EV routeplanning.
And get the consumption in line with EU brands or even better beat Tesla.
ATM is a verry good looking car with sup par ev stats
Charging isn't that hot, true, though is Europe's charging infrastructure even good enough to charge at this speed yet? In general?
And a hatch
Indeed! More hatches please.
Do the foot wiggle and step back.
I'll go Google what that is.

That's sad if true.
@@InsideChinaAuto I don't believe it.
Fantastic model that it's not coming to Europe. BYD will bring the Sea Lion.
Will have to try that instead.
Inside China Auto seems to hate Chinese cars. Maybe net time, I will watch another channel?
The world is your oyster dude
Which part did I hate?
Is it better to drive than an Xpeng? It is not possible, otherwise Xpeng Motors should adapt for you and persons like you a specific management of suspensions and way of driving to make you feel as if you were in this vehicle...
No need to adapt to me. XPengs drive very nicely, the P7 has really good balance in RWD form, but they're not as engaging as this, that's just a simple fact. Engaging isn't what everyone wants, many just want comfortable.
Good, but not good enough for me, only Xpeng products, or eventually Yangwang but only with Xpeng XNGP and Tianjin OS improvements !
They're way behind on ADAS stuff. Need some serious work there.
F me this car is under 30k usd in China.
Bargain, eh?
Actually you can get one for $2.52k after some discounts
Jaguar i-pace
Not sure which is the most outrageous comparison, this or the Porsche Macan.
the exterior design
@@Drp2681f Not seeing it at all I'm afraid
The cars don't look half bad but the names are terrible.
They're named after Chinese dynasties so they're not so bad, they just sound odd to outsiders. The ocean series however...well I mean who buys a car called Seagull, even if it's an awesome car.
It looks like a EV6 copycat.
There's always one.
A prepaid car
Not quite sure what's meant by that.
Porsche macan copy😂😂😂

@@InsideChinaAuto, 😂
I want to see crash test results and benchmarks from 3rd parties first.
A third party like...?
@@InsideChinaAuto Australia would be pretty neutral wouldn’t you agree?
And Britain wouldn't be? As for crash tests, all BYDs tested by EuroNCAP have 5 stars by the way, so there's precedent.
@@InsideChinaAuto considering the quality of Britain’s Home brands sold in the USA, no thank you. 😊 No disrespect intended
@Zindo.Majesty.HisMajesty How are Australia's home brands doing in the US? You see the flaw in that point don't you?
Too plasticky
Much better than I expected to be honest, only really the little bit in the middle is too much and feels a bit eh, but there's soft material in places I wasn't expecting from a BYD.
I don 't like ICA i like COOP better
I'm sure you do.
@@InsideChinaAuto Your attempt to "explain" the contextual meaning of your trite use of the words 'fun' and (yaaawn) 'fun to drive' are superfluous to requirements mate. I've slam-dunked it every which way.
