    Very nice upgrades. I went with a used Ranger and added a lot of the same accessories you did. I have dual power poles and an Ultrex trolling motor. With just those two things, it’s been a game changer for me. I used to hate going out even with the slightest breeze because I had to fight the boat with an underpowered trolling motor. Now, it’s like cruise control! I love it! I also added a hummingbird gps/ fish-finder, stereo, led lights for the deck and lithium trolling motor batteries . Spent quite a bit with the upgrades but it was still less than a third the cost of a new rig. thank you for serving and tight lines my friend!!

    Foremost > Thank you for serving!! So very happy to see you are enjoying your well-earned retirement... My son-in-law is a Trooper and damn happy to support the guys and gals who protect us... I too have a 170 and definitely need to upgrade very weak factory trolling motor. Love your other up-grades as well! Best to you and yours!

      Thank you Tom and thank your son-in-law for his service. On the trolling motor, although this upgrade does the job well, in hindsight I wish I would have waited and saved more for the ulterra with the auto deploy. I’m not as balanced as I was and also it would allow me to launch the boat remotely. Think about that before you upgrade.

    Good video. I’m in the same position as you, retired firefighter and just bought a Pro 170. I changed out the fish finder and I’m thinking about the trolling motor. I’m up here in the Northeast so my boat is covered until April. I see that you folks have been getting a taste of what we deal with for months. I hope you got through it ok.

      Yes. Today call the snow melted so we’re through. I upgraded my trolling motor to a Minkota Power drive. The spot lock is like the best feature on my boat. For me at least. Don’t have to fool with an anchor or keep pushing on the foot pedal. I just hit the spot lock and just enjoy fishing. I recommend it.

    just picked up mine last week --- same boat. I agree those shiny 80k boats sure do look great but way out of my budget- just cannot justify it. which trolling motor did you go with (specifically - which model) and how hard was it to install??? Ive messed with mine only one day so far and yea that foot pedal is a PIA what thrust did you buy? and Since you stayed 12V, do you find that lasts long enough???? Im also here in TX and some of the windy days that little motor seems like its going to struggle lots of currents pushing me every which way . you've given me a few ideas thanks! I also like those ratchet straps for the trailer and the rollers where did you find them? getting it back on the trailer by myself is kinda a struggle looks like those rollers would really help.

    • @GmanfromTexas
      @GmanfromTexas  2 года назад

      Congratulations. You’ll love it. I got the Minkota power drive 12 V 55 lbs thrust with spot lock. It holds me on point pretty good under normal to slight chop condition. I haven’t tried it on a rough day because I don’t go out unless good weather. The rollers are the CR Smith rollers I believe I got them from west marine but don’t remember exactly.

    Hey brother like the video I got the same boat picked it up last week. I am also a retired cop here in NJ . Let me ask you how is it with the power pole ? Do you feel like it added a lot of weight ? Did it make the boat a lot slower out the hole? Also do you have 3 batteries cause I was wondering where I would put that hydraulic pump with 3 batteries. So I was thinking about a micro power pole to save weight . Right now I did
    Dual Lowrance elite 9 Ti2 one in front and one in the console and also got a 80lb minn Kota so I have 3 batteries now . Thanks bro.

      The power pole did not reduce any speed. I'm getting 32 MPH before and after the pole. Now I only have two batteries so that's a lot of weight your carrying with that extra battery. My Trolling motor is 12V. so I'm good with two.

      @@GmanfromTexas yeah that’s what I am worried about is the weight . Cause I added a Fortrex 80lb and needed the 3 battery . What do you think about doing the MINI to save on weight ?

      My 4Runner does very well with the tracker 170. It’s like I’m pulling nothing. And it is not 4 wheel drive either. What I do for extra precaution is I place a brake depressor between the steering wheel and the brake pedal at the ramp so all four tires are locked
