Very enjoyable to watch, sheer poetry in motion. Built when Britain was truly great. Such a graceful engine. Thanks for sharing. All the best from Scotland. Garry

Hi Garry and thank you so much for such kind and impassioned comments. It is sad to think that all these open and uninterrupted views of the GWML have now been marred by overhead wires and gantries. Best regards, Alan

When you see the crossheads and the rest of the "power pack" working, makes you realize and appreciate the effort that went into making these Swindon built monuments so successful !!

Hi and thank you for your interesting comment. One could say that Brunels engineering principles were continued right through the lifetime of the G.W.R. Regards, Alan

Brilliant shots there, I was at Didcot all day and saw her both ways, she pelted through both times, the first giving us the longest GW whistle i've ever heard! Andy

Outstanding piece of video Alan, fantastic shots of the King pounding through her old home territory, it's a shame she'll be leaving soon. Thumbs up & fav'd

Hi Andy: thank you for your appreciation. We heard the whistles from the Didcot engine(s) during the afternoon at Cholsey. The footplate crew on KE1 definitely had the "last run" spirit about them!! Alan

Hi EM and thank you for your comments, I was really lucky to get the Sonning and Challow shots as I literally had only seconds to get both, but it made the day for me. Alan

Hi Tim and thank you for the very kind comments. According to Network Rail's document "Modernising the Great Western", electrification starts in 2014 and will be completed in 2016 between Paddington and Cardiff including Temple Meads to Bristol Parkway. So we have between 2 and 4 years to enjoy a clear view of this stretch of mainline. Alan

Hi and thank you for the encouraging comment. The Cholsey shot was my main shot of the day and I was very lucky that the sun went below the horizon just in time!! Alan

They were meant to bring king Edward ll to the mainline as well but sadly the plans were dropped so they’ve not made plans to get 6023 back to mainline running

Hi Ryan and thanks for the amusing comment. Don't forget, I've been filming steam from the very start of the Preservation era but it's true that I hav'nt been to these locations for some time. Maybe see you lineside for KE1's last run? Alan

I'm having thoughts that you got these clips from seeing my work that I've done in the past. Sonning Cutting and South Moreton being notable spots. A rare glimpse to see a steam service run on the fast line at Sonning as it sometimes gets put onto the slow.

Great shots Alan, particularly enjoyed the epic footage from Sonning and the superb lighting effects as 6024 left Challow. Any idea how long we have until the wires appear? Hopefully a while still to enjoy steam on the Great Western Mainline as it should be! Thanks for sharing, Tim
