Well, most control does play some combination of Pithing Needle, Sorcerous Spyglass, Field of Ruin, and/or Ghost Quarter which are all able to answer Maze. This deck doesn't have many answers to those outside cryptic (which can be countered when playing against control) or Life from the Loam (which is slow, a 1-of, and potentially mills your other 1-ofs forcing you to play it again hoping for no grave hate) Dont get me wrong, land based decks are pretty resilient against control, but they DO have answers for this type of deck
This is actually exactly how the deck performed in Standard and Block Construction all those years ago. Blue/White control was the best deck in both formats, but it was utterly incapable of dealing with the good old "10 land drops"-plan
Once you know it's a Maze's end deck, you surgical Maze's End in most cases (Prime time being the 2nd best option), so Gateway plaza doesn't really do much there. Pull from eternity could be an interesting 1 of though in the case your maze does get surgicalled/extirpated, and since the deck runs at least 4 white sources in gates and ways to get those out easily you shouldn't ever have any issues casting it.
@@smithereen7430 sure, if you can activate it the same turn you can play it (with amulet for example and 3 other mana sources). If you play it and it only enter's tapped, opp could have GQ + Extirpate/surgical or if you are against ponza they could stone rain it before you can activate it.
Interesting deck design. I like the Loam plan in case they blow up a land, but I would have run a single Gateway Plaza. It's a terrible land to play in Modern and doesn't get around the second Ghost Quarter on its own, but it's more like a conventional tapland with Amulet of Vigor out, and you can tutor it up with 12 cards in this deck
Wheel of Sun and Moon would be perfect for this deck! Cast it on yourself to get your lands back into your deck, cast it on on opponent who relies on their graveyard, and it makes you Mill proof!
What Seth keeps saying is why I love Titanshift. We don't need to play spells to win. Just make the land drops. Decks have a hard time dealing with lands. Fun deck, Seth. Keep up the great content!
I've been playing this deck -the standard bits for years. I've called it Amulet End and ive taken it too many events. I like your take on the deck, I dont run most of the standard bits but might look at adapting the deck a bit now.
Even at the start, this deck is proof that Wizards NEEDS to address the lack of serious reprints. There is no reason this deck should be over $800 dollars in paper.
@@ecoKady just did the math, 12 of the cards represent 73% of the budget. That's a problem. They absolutely can print snapcaster more. In fact it wasnt until almost a year after MM3 that the price stopped INCREASING.
If you’re implying they should reprint snapcaster into standard again then I’m gonna have to stop you there that caused the single biggest case of “play this deck if you want to win in standard” that has happened in the history of modern magic when it was first printed.
@@zackestin1368 not implying into standard, but they need to do something. In order to buy into a modern deck that is somewhat competitive, I'd have to stop attending FNM for months. On the other hand, I think that Ultimate Masters was a spit in the face to the community, that boiled down to, "Here's a price hike on the same shit you were already buying." A while ago I had built a Ramos Dragon Engine commander deck based around Maze's End/a similar strategy and it admitly wasn't very good. But I'm very surprised that you're able to win rather easily with Maze's End.
