I liked Oasis, but when they bad mouthed Phil Collins and one of them or both said he didn't have talent I lost whatever respect I had for them. I mean Phil was not only a master drummer, but also a story teller, a song writer, and had powerful vocals, and he sold a crazy amount of albums and eclipsed Peter Gabriel, who is a great singer, and he hung around for much longer than the Gallaghers.
@@Bazza5000 I loved Genesis..... but I left with team Gabriel back in the day..... I still liked Phil..... but I loved Peter..... Peter was the theatrical, flamboyant, grandiose stage performer guy in my mind..... and in complete contrast..... all Phil does in this performance..... is basically walk up and down some stairs..... and then..... sit down at his f-ing drum kit..... and kids today..... think it could be the greatest performance of all time...... I'm too old to argue now.
Thank you for your reverence while watching his video and for your reaction to the live performance of the most memorable artist of my time. Phil Collins, the legend!!!!!
One of the best drummers alive! And After drumming..one of the best singers alive!😁😳🤯 He was a drummer for the band Genesis and when the lead singer left, he stepped right on up!
@@eddavis9704 And to do it as your Opening Number, unless he went offstage and regrouped and this is the Encore, who has the Balls to Open with their Biggest Hit, with the most Infamous Drum Fill?
Voted #1 on the list of Grandfather's Who Can Utterly Rock Your F-ing Face Off. No, that's really a list, and he was really voted #1. Phil Collins is a legend. A pure legend.
No computers, no playbeks, no trained synchronized dances of the seven young men. Only talent, passion and real music played by great musicians on real instruments.
here is something to think about that I have not seen anyone comment on. from the moment he is at the top of the stage, walks down the stairs, walks across the stage, up the stairs, finally gets to the drums is the exact time he needs to be at the drums. that in its self is awesome
If you are just starting classic ro k, you are in for a long happy ride! I'll go along! I grew up with it, so it's great to see people first experience it! Go for it!
Somehow, we can all understand, that singing and drumming at the same time is on another level of musicianship. It's why most of know of that one person who can do it....maybe two.
Just imagine, I was 21 at that time when I bought the LP registre it on a chrome cassette and play in my car with the equalizer to the max...especially when I passed girls... 1981, no flashes, no police at every corners, beers for 1eurocent, you ware the king when you had a car, a radio tape and 10 $ in your pocket at that time and...... I was there !!!! 😛
Where Phil gets on the drums is one of the MOST iconic beats in music, and right there, that is where the hype-up turns over 11 and the intensity is over 9000.
hi. i saw phil live at the Royal Abert Hall over here in the uk back in the 80's. he is truly a great entertainer. i was born in 1959 so i grew up with a mass of brilliant bands and solo artists. you should look at bands like THIN LIZZY (their an IRISH band.) another one is PINK FLOYD. then there's a band called THE WHO. then LED ZEPPLIN. another one is QUEEN. if you have not heard there music you are in for a great ride through their songs. loved your review.
A legend! He started as the drummer for Genisys. When their singer left...or something...Phil took over and eventually did his own thing. Also, this song is, allegedly, about a situation where Phil witnessed a drowning where someone could have helped the victim...but didn't! Phil wrote the song and invited the person to a concert and sang the song AT THEM!!!
Actually he wrote this song when he was getting a divorce from his then wife whom he caught cheating on him! I watched the interview about the song when I came out! It's actually all over Google as well. You probably should do some research before you offer up a conspiracy theory. You posted a rumor not factual by any means!
With his band Genesis, Collins played four consecutive sell-out nights at the 80,000-capacity Wembley Stadium in July 1987. In 86/87 Genesis was likely the biggest band on the planet- they released 5 singles from their 86 album 'Invisible Touch', with all five making the top-five in the US.
aha's Take On Me. Not only is the lead singer out of this world, but the music video is considered by some as one of top videos very made, and it just got the 4k treatment.
Phil Collins is AMAZING!
Phil Collins is LIFE!!!
Jammed
I just subscribed I love classic rock. Queen, LED Zipp, Pink Floyd, Journey, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, so much music. 🔥
Watch the ORIGINAL miami vice tv series, it has some of the BEST 80s songs at critical scenes
You 2 are amazing. Love it!!!
Im 62 & I grew up listening to all of his music....He was 57 when he did this concert ... & can still pack a house......He is EPIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No one stays calm when Phil breaks in with those drums.
NO ONE.
You know a singer is not just a singer but an artist when he sounds even better when performing live.
As Phil himself once said, he's not a Singer that plays the drums, he's a Drummer that can sing a little bit. ;)
Preforming still this day. But his son plays the drums now. He unable to at 70.
Anticipation !💥
That crowd screaming as he approached the kit was almost as moving as the skin roll itself. They knew EXACTLY what he was about to do ...
They also saw the drum platform rise up from the first floor! Barely visible on the video.Incredible showmanship!
Never make Phil Collins angry. The whole world will know about it
Someone should have told his first wife that back in 1979

It is just unbelievable. And how can you master playing drums and singing like that at the same time..The coordination...The beat...The TALENT!
unico
...and not at least: compose it.
Don Henly was the lead singer and drummer for the Eagles. Dave Grohl often plays drums and sings.

It was in the pilot episode of Miami Vice tv show. The audience started cheering when they saw the drums coming out of the floor.

Yes he has the timing of his foot on the drum and then drumming and singing all the same time. Thats a real musician.
