OMG, Mahalo for sharing this video. I remember him shockingly showing up to my son's graduation pa'ina, @ Waimanalo Homestead, walking in with my Cuzzins Nani Naope, Jim Boy Kaili, and Unko George's driver. Kanikapila all night long, felt like a concert, cause the neighborhood parked and just made house around my backyard. Memories and pics and my son's graduation video best memories. 💯🤙🌺🎶, Again Mahalo Pumehana for sharing.
George Was a Cool Dude, I remember I was 20 years old and had just moved to Hawaii in 1983 And was working as a waiter at the Keauhou Beach hotel He would come to the Sunday Brunch on a regular basis and I was the waiter that served his party , always a pleasure to deal with
George Na'ope played some songs for my grandpa back in the 90's with his band at the Keauhou Beach Hotel. My grandpa Al was 16 years older than George, and he loved watching him sing! George had this skinny haole guy in his band back then who could sing really well. Wish I had video of that! Thanks for posting this video! Uncle George was a star in Kona. When he showed up you could feel his energy! He spread the Aloha spirit and taught hula which is important to pass on Hawaiian culture. Everyone in Hawaii knew of Uncle George and he was loved by all....
He's singing Keaukaha at the beach we go to every morning when in Waikiki. Lovely snorkeling there. We first saw Uncle George at the Keauhou Beach Hotel and a few years down the road, we finally go to Merrie Monarch & he and Auntie Dottie were running it. He also came to do a workshop in hula with Ivalani in Richmond, CA. He was a dynamo usually, but I don't think he was well. Ivalani did a really good job, though and that was ok. She has her own halau and is passing on his mana'o. I have an 8x10 glossy of Uncle George in my living room. Oakland 2021
