Defying Gravity
My chorus got to do a workshop with her before she was Elphaba on broadway. And one of the activities was to get in a circle and say what our dream role was, and she said Elphaba. And now she’s on broadway I’m just so happy for her💚💚💚
Her voice is very unique. I love it. It’s more modern and less traditional Broadway. She sounds very young. Definitely some rock element. She’s definitely Elphaba. I like her twist. I love how she turned the last note into a battle cry/scream. She’s not my top favorite Elphie, but I like her. She’s bringing something new to Wicked.
Pearl the rebel who’s your favorite elphaba?
She reminds me a lot of Jessica Vosk :)
You ever seen Idina!?
Bia rio yep
@@lioness9271 Mine is Jessica Vosk by a mile
I love her voice. I love Elphabas don’t try to be Idina. She really makes it her own. Her No Good Deed is also amazing
I love that her acting choices all seem to have a motivation. As Elphaba, she sounds terrified of what she’s about to do. There’s a timidity. It also feels incredibly intimate. As opposed to sort of just yelling words, she builds confidence throughout. Brava
Her “Everyone deserves the chance to fly” has to be my favorite that I’ve ever heard
While her voice is without a doubt utterly phenomenal what's always struck me about Hannah's Defying Gravity (and also her Elphaba overall) is her acting decisions. At the beginning of the song she allows her Elphaba to be vulnerable and have a lot of fear about what she feels like she has to do. You can initially see how hard it is for her to be making that decision, which in turn makes her confidence and determination by the time she flies so much more striking and powerful. Its such a masterful performance to witness and even just in an audio so much of that is able to come through
beautiful description!!
Beautifully said
Emma you nailed it!!!!!I hope they bring Her in to audition for film . As we all know Ariana is the frontrunner for part . I think she is amazing n would nail the part . I would still love Hannah to be seen .
Hannah Corneau is DEFinetly my favourite Elphaba. She truly took this incredibly complex character that so many amazing women have had before her and brought something completely new to the table, making Elphaba entirely her own. There's nothing blank about Corneau's Elphaba. She rethinks every single line and brings out sides of Elphaba no one else has.
I cannot fathom being a new Elphie, and trying to build upon the foundation that has been laid before you, but still do something that is your own.
Hannah has truly blown me away. Truly enchanting.
Can we appreciate how every single one of those notes were perfect pitch?
definitely not. she's pitchy
YES she was my first elphie and the first thing i noticed was how consistent her pitch was.
Her pitch is far from perfect, it is good enough tho. You might be comparing this to Idina tho, that's probably why you hear it as if the pitch was perfect, Idina is off pitch 1/3 of the song.
@@jodavitow idk the relative pitch meter in my brain says otherwise. It may start off a little low but she evens out close to perfect.
Also the words with less of an intention behind them are a bit under, but the big words that require more motivation are definitely there.
Regardless of whether or not it was intentional, I LOVE how her voice starts to give at the end and it ends in a raspy-gowl-esque fashion. Glorious.
evandl given how much control she has through the rest of the song I’d say it was intentional. I loved that too.
It reminds me of Margaret Hamilton's original portrayal when she does that, I really like it!
Also, Hannah, if you happen to read this, welcome to the list of incredible Elphabas.
Literally PITCH PERFECT. Every single note. She's insanely talented. The intensity and vulnerability is absolutely perfect! Damn. She's one of the best by far. I can't wait to hear her toward the end of her run
Well this is simply not true. Her pitch is fine tho. You might be comparing this to Idina who is off pitch half the song and that's why this sounds so on pitch. But no, she went off pitch quite a few times. Nothing terrible however. I agree this was overall great
jodavitow why do you people have to bring Idina into everything? She was amazing in her own way and Hannah was in hers!
this is the first time i've heard 'well if that's love' done like how she did it here
Javarie Lewis it’s a brilliant acting decision.
@@ZoraTheberge it truly is. I'm so used to it just being blurted out, this was an absolutely great choice
I just came here from Hamilton in 7 minutes realising the girl who sang Eliza is the new Elphaba and this is amazing! I love the way she's playing Elphaba.
Me when I first saw the "no good deed" Video
I was s o stunned
I think you mean Hannah Cruz, she never played eliza
Sofia P no they're talking about hamilton in 7 minutes, it's a youtube video and this hannah played eliza in it!
She should be movie elphaba
Mary Jane Jessica Vosk is elphaba in the movie
Mary Jane PERIODT
Fully agree 💚🖤
Saw her do this a month or so ago and I can’t get it out of my head, thank goodness for this recording honestly or I’d be going Insane. Hannah’s is better then any other, I love this more then the original. I cried in the theatre. Both her and Gina are flawless performers. I feel so lucky to have seen them both!
Im really happy that Hannah got the part of Elphaba because Wicked have a habbit of recycling their Elphabas. They never really seem to hire new woman to play the role. Its really nice to hear a fresh voice. Hannah is amazing!
She is INSANELY amazing! I saw her in May and the whole cast was mind blowing, but oh man. This girl is going to go places. I get goosebumps just listening! Seeing it was a whole other level of amazing.
I love her growl on ‘nobody’ 😍 She is so Elphaba. Her voice sounds so clean and effortless.
God I still can't get over how AMAZING she is!!!! I'm on the verge of deeming her better then Idina Menzel!!!!
That 'Believe nothing she says she's evil" lmmmaaaaooo i would have busted out laughing in the theatre
She has a very healthy way of singing, she will have a long ass career. shes amazing.
I had the pleasure of seeing her in Wicked last month & she's one of the best Elphaba's I've seen, in my many time of enjoying the show!!
The way her voice sounds on “deserves” is SO good
I like how this is her first role
I was there on this day and heard exactly this! 💚 I’ve longed to hear it again!
I love Hannah with my whole heart but I have never heard this Glinda before and I love her!
Wow, this is a completely unique interpretation of the character I have not heard from the past five Elphabas! It really does sound like they cast a good rock singer in the role traditionally sung by a good opera singer.
Elphaba is SOOOOOOOO far away from a role for an opera singer wtf. Elphaba is pure belting and has close to zero use of head voice.
Perhaps you mean a singer who focuses more on classical training? The other Elphabas I've heard definitely have more of a traditional, Broadway-belt style (in contrast to Galinda, who can sound operatic at different moments). I agree, she seems to go for more of a rock-inspired sound, and it's so refreshing!
@@RianeBane Yes, that's what I meant! I feel that this is one of those plays where it's evolved into something where every performance is very unique. I'm looking forward to seeing more unique intepretations of Elphaba as well as other characters.
Well one of her previous notable roles was as Yitzhak in Hedwig so she does know rock technique
@@alextheaxolotl3031 That's really cool!
Her "to fly" always gives me goosebumps. I know Broadway have only had her a few months but I really hope she will come to London at some point!😍
“it’s meeeee” yessss hannah. hands down on of my favorite elphabas. She’s brings something so new to the character.
I just saw Wicked yesterday at the Gershwin and she sang this song perfectly 💚
I'm going in January. Was she good at singing Wizard and I?😁
@@rachelhatton6712 she was fantastic! You're gonna love it!
I wish she could be Elphaba forever (and also the movie please)
That last note with growl in the end is almost spiritual! ♥
Came back just to say “FLY” still gives me goosebumps
I really like her! She's fresh and brings something new in her version!
Her technique is PERFECT!!!
the "if thats love" had me DEAD oh my daaaaayssss
A very refined and beautiful voice. Everything with intention and emotion. Bravo Hannah! You’ve had a beautiful run and I hope you return to OZ again
she’s my favorite elphaba. unpopular opinion but try to change my mind😤😤 shes perfect. i saw her live and it was literally elphaba, like i was forgetting that this was an actress and not real life elphaba. i love her so much. that’s it i’m done, hannah’s my favorite elphie
She’s definitely amazing!
Most consistent voice! She’s is amazing!
I saw Wicked for the very first time on a trip to NYC with my concert choir, and this recording is of the show my mom and I attended on the night we arrived in the city! I'm so glad my intro to this show had the amazing Hannah Corneau as Elphaba! My mom is a trained singer, and we were both just in awe for every single musical number -- it was like a live performance singing clinic! I'd never seen an actual standing ovation in the theater before when the first act concluded... that's just how incredible Hannah is.
Hannah is a star
I really love her tone, it's perfect for Elphaba.
When I saw them on Broadway doing For Good I cried soooooo hard......while everyone stared at me like wtf is wrong with this girl 😭😂😭
Hannah Corneau is amazing. For me she is the best Elphaba.
One of my favorite elphabas
love this elphie!
Honestly Hannah has earned a spot on my favorite Elphaba list
Goosebumps
absolute perfection.
She just put a whole new twist on Elphaba and i LOVE it 😍
Definitely my favorite of her “And nobody in all Oz” deliveries 7:11
I saw her in may 2019!
Heyy, I'd be very interested in trading for the full show if you have it!
I’ll sort this out later (I’ve got lots of audios i have been meaning to upload to my Google Drive) but I’d be up for it :)
my favourite elphaba. this is amazing.
Intriguing.
I don’t want her to go 😭
Pls could you upload no good deed?
So I just found out that I am technically related to hanna and I freaked. Her cousin married my uncle. So I was so happy to know that
She is so unique! I really want to see her. Does anyone know if she is still out sick?
Sabrina s I went to see wicked this Wednesday and she was still out, but I’m not sure :(
Mckenzie Murphy yeah I had a feeling... thanks for letting me know, I’m sure it must be disappointing to get really sick at the beginning of your first run. I hope she comes back with a bang soon
Mckenzie Murphy apparently Hannah is back today! I hope someone uploads some of her performance since she’s been gone for so long.
Sabrina s hopefully, whoever gets to see her is incredibly lucky!!
Hannah as eliza anyone?
Every Elphie is different
I love her. It's kinda shame the sound isn't as good though
Oh my god, can anyone hear Alice Fearn in her? (One of the London elphies)
Lena Hill yes!!!
anyone know who the tour Elphaba is gonna be for 2021
Eliza why are you green?
Here it is guys!! Hannah's AMAZING last performance!! ruclips.net/video/STU5oik1sno/видео.html

Kristi Lambert yessss
I'm begging you if you have a bootleg of Hannah's performance please share. I will eternally be grateful 🙏

Waouh, this was amazing 😍 Her voice fits the character so perfectly, I love it!!
I did a cover of defying gravity on my channel, it's not even a percent as good as this, but you can still check it out if you're interested ^^
I’ve just seen it and really enjoyed listening to it! I’d love to see more covers 💕
Have you got a bootleg with her?
Full audio, yes

Help! Why does Madame Morrible sound so familiar??? Who is she???
Yôsef Avilés It’s Nancy Opel.
@@karllove6042 THANK YOU!!!
This is the day before I saw her
Which Glinda was this? If you recall. She is also lovely!
It’s Ginna Claire mason
Ginna Claire Mason :))
Quase tao boa quanto a Myra ruiz
she sounds like jessie mueller
SO sharp at some points
hh ll Right?!
?? i didn’t hear it but i respect ur opinion 🚫🧢
If you think this is good listen to Jessica Vosk! She’ll blow your minds
Cool story. This is about Hannah and how incredible she is in such a short time in the role. Everyone knows The Vosk is amazing, but she's not in the show anymore.
elphbwckd PREACH
elphbwckd thank you! It’s Hannah’s turn in the spotlight now
They’re both amazing
I actually didn't care for her interpretation.
Where is Idina Menzel? Best performance by a leading actress goes to Hannah.
why put one down jfc they're both great thank you
Idina has the best acting and she was better than Hannah in the try outs.
Pearl the rebel It is Idina's vocals that raises the bar, Hannah gets to sing & tries to match Idina's high notes. To anyone that agrees or disagree, please tap thumbs up or thumbs down if you disagree.
@@benjamincollins8559 100% disagree. Idinas acting sold the role. Her vocals, especially in this song live, left a lot to be desired. She could barely hit a lot of these notes let alone sing them and hold them out in a full and healthy way. Love Idina and she made Elphie the character she is, but she has some of the weakest vocals of any Elphaba.
elphbwckd Hanna has been in the show close to a month & a half, this is understandable. I have a trained ear when it comes to singing, I'm taking voice right now. The more time she has with the role she will improve.
Doesn't fit as well as Idina
Bia rio I know, it fits better than idina
Why tf is this so rushed?? Also who casted this girl? She’s really not all that. And how often she sings off time with the music, is SO annoying. All her old man groaning and screaming is not it either.
Nobody asked. If you have nothing nice to say dont say it please. Also i highly doubt you could do a better job so stop being so neagtive
So now you aren't allowed to back phrase and have to make it incredibly straight? Why don't you just listen to the cast album at that point, no one wants a live performance to sound like you're holding the sheet music right in front of you.
Roger AMEN TO THAT
