I was already doing this, sort of , 8 weeks ago at my Iron fitting Ali. I was nervous and thinking of all of the positions as I went through and my fitter heard me thinking it all. I was coming up short with the early shots in the fitting, and the guy said to me to just have a half swing between 12 o clock and 6 o clock, and to just drop the club down on the ball, relating to what he called compressing the ball, and not think of shaft lean, and it put 15 yards on a shot. Thanks for this.
This simple thought saved my golf game today. Literally transformed my back nine when I remembered I’d watched this video. Can’t thank you enough for this and defo gonna take it to the course next time
With irons when I don't hit straight more often than not I hit left. However with a driver when I don't hit it straight more often than not it goes right sometimes way right. I thought I was swinging the same but obviously not. I am going to give your drill a go and see what happens. Great video with simple explanations.
Like most high handicap golfers (27 in my case) I am always working against a slice. However when I need a slice/fade around trees my shots nearly always go straight left with little or no bend. Why?
No; my shots are normally a draw to the left. More so with the driver. My iron shots are most often very straight. I have tried so hard to make the low point after the ball with irons, but so far no dice. I just started this sport this summer and have played 9 times. I have broken 100 twice. So far, it’s just the inconsistency of my shots. Even the horrible duffs go straight. But hitting the turf before the ball is my problem.
Odd mental technique I came up with and used for quite a while to deal with all those swing thoughts and how they make your swing technical, and feel unnatural because it's so 'overthought' - You know how if you duff a shot and then take a mulligan and hit another ball, it's usually much better? Well I decided to step up to the ball and mentally act as if I'd already hit a duff shot. I'd be telling myself "C'mon - you know how to do this, just hit the danged ball!" I'd walk up to the ball play-angry because I'd already messed up a shot that I certainly know how to hit, address the ball and just swing - no pre-shot thoughts, just hit the ball where it's supposed to go. And more often than not, that worked.
It's crazy how you can be so good some days and other days it's a disaster. Other sports aren't like that. I played baseball in high school and college, and sure there were days where you felt a little off, but nothing like golf. One day you'll be striping it down the middle and others you can't hit it near where you want. The equivalent in baseball would not being able to play catch or hit the ball. That just doesn't happen. Golf is hard.
The more I think the worse I play lol. Sadly and oddly enough some of my best rounds have been when I was sleep deprived and hungover to be honest. I think because I was not thinking about anything let alone anything Golf related.

That looks like something that will help me with my irons. Thanks for the easy drill.
Great video Ali and great tips

On the way down, the path is in to out or sort of drop it and square forward and left turn.
FIRST!!! 🙌🏾
