Why is it inferred that the Papau mine being the largest in the world is a lode mine? Couldn’t it be a placer mine that still produces a few percent of total gold mined, if there are significantly more smaller lode mines. Also, I don’t understand why the statement “the mine processed approximately 130kg of raw ore…” is incompatible with the passage statement “on average it produces 130kg of raw ore”. What scenario would the first statement be true?
Hey, I'll take a stab at both of your questions. 1. The passage suggests at multiple occasions that Lode mines are large and in fact larger than the placer mines. Hence, the largest mine in the world cannot be a placer mine and has to be the lode mine. 2. Let's say there are 10 people and the average amount of money in their pockets is $10. We cannot infer that everyone has $10 in their pockets since what we are given is the "average" amount. Some people may have $15, some may have $2. Similarly, the question statement says that the mine processed approximately 130Kg of raw ore. We don't know if that was the amount processed for every single operation to obtain 10g gold. It maybe more than that, it maybe less than that. Hope this helps.
