Hey! Jon Solo! Have you done the rescuers? If it has a dark history. Thanks! Just wondering.
The rescuers are an old Disney movie, but I'm not sure if it has a dark history. 🤔
Did you actully downloed a japanese kyebord for that costum emoji.
Jon Solo hey what is Axum's razor?
Nice👌🏿
I had "Tortoise and the Hare" as a child. But, i thought the message in the story was about not being lazy, arrogant, and procrastinating.
It isnt?
@@anahisanchez7145 the moral I believe is "slow and steady wins the race"
Both
I took the last one as ones arrogance may not only harm themselves, but the many.
A better moral than then the ACTUAL moral
You did this so smoothly, I can barely tell you're reading the script. I wonder how many times you practiced before you were satisfied...
I totally agree!
SO glad you thought so! I practiced each line a few times and still managed to save myself a few hours of filming. So crazy! Only going to get better form here on out too :)
No sis he's a king he's always perfect so it didn't take that long
Agreed, I didn't notice anything different at all until I saw it mentioned in the comments.
I totally agree!!!
Guys, at 9:10 I say “1815” and “1915*” pops up on screen. There was a typo in my script and 1915* is the correct year, which is why I put an asterisk next to it. Judging from your comments surprisingly few of you recognized the unwritten “asterisk to correct a typo” rule. I thought it was more common! 🤯
The messed up origins of Jon Solo.
*THAT'S* what we need
@@ahunkytortoise4560 EXACTLY what we need
@JonSolo
West Philadelphia. born and raised. on a playgroup is where he spent most of his days....
Whoops, wrong origin.
Reffa / dude that’s hilarious
I once read a very bizarre theory about this tale that the tale is actually an allusion to the mechanism of a clock. According to the theory, the hare and the tortoise are actually the the two arrows of the clock, with the hare being the minutes arrow, and the tortoise being the hour arrow. The race is just a representation of the passing of time and the 2 arrows moving around the clock, "chasing" each other out. The tortoise (hour arrow) is always in front of the hare (minutes arrow) because tho it moves slower, it also shows a longer passage of time and by that would always be in front of the minutes. The minutes arrow, on the other hand, show a shorter passage of time and move faster across the clock, but no matter how close and how fast it may get to the hour arrow, it can never catch it. Thus, the hour is supreme over the minute, as the tortoise is supreme over the hare. The theory also stated that the tale came originally from ancient Greece, and talked about a hypothetical chase between Heracles and a tortoise (with the tortoise winning of course, no matter how hard Heracles tried to defeat it).
You should have received more love for this. It amazing!
dod they have such battery operated clocks back then?
@@aurobindosarkar2017 Yup, in the time the tale was written clocks were already invented. I don't think clocks operated on battery back in those days, but there were a lot of wind-up clocks instead. Most likely the theory is referring to grandpa clocks, or pocket watches that were in pick fashion for gentleman back then.
This story is older than mechanical clocks...the Greeks used sun dials, hour glasses and candle clocks, but the first mechanical clocks with hands were Roman water clocks.
I don't know how my comment from another video ended up here
Hare and hedgehog? So there's a version where Bugs Bunny raced Sonic The Hedgehog? 🤣
What if thats where the idea of sonic came from?
@@erievhs but it was actual speed instead of creative wife stand in...
It was big chungus not bugs bunny
@@erievhs not sure where his exact origins came from but he started as a brown hedgehog called mr needlemouse, living in a cardboard box in the ally of a fast food joint. Then the reason he loved chili dogs is because his family would feed off the scraps from the restaurant
@@snowbird1381 The concept for this origin story comes from the Sonic bible back in 1991 and then it was revamped for the British Sonic comics (the story you're talking about) but this origin story is not canon to the games.
In the games the closest thing to a Sonic backstory is that his from Christmas Island.
i heard another version of this story where the goal was for the racers to reach their homes first.the hare started running home while the tortoise just retreated into his shell and won that way because that is his house.
"...but he calms his wife down in the most loving way."
- Throws pots and glasses of brandy at his wife. -
"Hold your mouth, woman! This is MY affair."
😂😂😂
Thats the real moral of the story. Good things come to those who tell their wife to shut up
I screenshoted that cuz it amused me so much. Gunna show my man when he gets home cuz he’s gunna laugh his ass off.... then probably say it to me on occasion 🤣
I love how he goes in depth instead of giving us what we already know 🤷🏽♀️😌
He's bleeding from his throat, not his neck, at least in the German version.
I'm a day care worker and we actually had that book in our day care. I was still an intern back then, one of my colleagues had brought the book from home, so I didn't know the story, but I didn't think anything of it and just read it to the kids. Then came the part where the rabbit died and where it said there was blood coming out of his throat. I was so genuinely surprised when I came to that part, and mid-reading I was like "So the rabbit...ah...um....fainted...and just stayed there" lol
Nice save
LMAO The bunny died!
I wouldve just continued and I'm still a child xD
Lol me too my little brother and sister would have liked it
“Calms his wife down in the most loving way: hold your mouth, woman!” 😂😂😂😂
윤Nicky thats how a real man talks😊
It's the same old story
"The tortoise beat the hare, because slow and steady wins the race"
No one hardly ever saw it from the rabbit's perspective, a critter who's whole life is swiftness and speed, wasn't interested in racing a turtle because of how slow they actually move
I would LOOOOOOOVE if you did Robin Hood!!! So curious about that one, if he was based on a real person or not :D
Great idea! I think it would have to be a multiple part series like he did with Alice in Wonder Land as the history of Robin Hood is so complex, but I'd love to see that!
Oh yes please!
I think he did that😕.
Basicly a conglomeration of a couple of rebel thieves of the people from the mid 1200's. More can be understood from the above research ..The story of Ivanhoe is another version of RH from the 1800's
@@REX-ks1os c'mon, we want to see an episode of Messed up origins
My favorite versions of this story are the Bugs Bunny/Cecil Turtle cartoons. In one Cecil calls his cousins to help trick Bugs along the race course, similar to the hedgehog tricks.
I remember that episode from my childhood, I like the bridge scene
oooooh, now he tells us....
The tortoise cheated. He had a jet engine under his shell.
Did he trick me? Said bugs
50 tortoises say "well could be!"
I REMEMBER THAT ONE
Here in the Philippines, my teacher told us a longer version, where the hare also tried to burn the turtle and drown him. Well, the ending is still the same, the turtle beat the hare thrice! I don't know if I remember correctly, but I was waiting for the part where you say that Aesop was drowned to death LOL
Ah yes let us drown a semi aquatic animal
Why am I not surprised 😎
Jesus Christ THAT was a children's story?
I'm from the Philippines but I hadn't heard that before..
The turtle is a witch confirmed
("Witch" just means wise person)
The twist ending on that last one is just beautiful. Everyone died because the tortoise won, but anyone who actually WATCHED the race would know that the hare was faster, just didn't care about racing a tortoise as opposed to a FIRE. Also the arguments about "long ears = faster" and "hard shell = faster" are equally beautiful…Reminds me of the current political situation…
Wait so the animals died?!?! I got chills reading this….. like it went over my head when he said “the turtle became the messenger for the animals.”
Mr. Hedgehog: "Don't meddle in the business of men's!"
Also Mr. Hedgehog: Get's his wife, a woman, to dress as a man to pretend to be him.
Divorce him sweetie!
Mr Hedgehog had a foolproof plan that brought home gold and booze. She should have known better then to doubt him. It's also very sweet of him to trust his wife with this important task. And she did ok. They have a very good relationship, judging by the happy picture at the end and whe shouldn't judge a book by it's cover.
@@__________________________Fred I was just joking but that's fair. Still awful of him to talk at her that way tho
Cassandra _ he was angry. He just got a blow about him from a sensitive subject. Even family will lash at one another when certain wounds have been touched.
@@RogueT-Rex8468 I get that but that sentence does kind reflect how women were talked at/treated back in the day. But hey, again, I was just making a joke. Also, why is everyone that replies to this comment phrasing their words like they ARE from the 1800's?
@@dollyeyeball777 i was also joking :)
There was a cartoon episode yesterday, of how the hedgehog got the idea of tricking the hare using his wife, from a crab tricking a fox in their race by hanging to his tail then hurrying the last couple of steps when the fox got cocky and stopped running waiting for the crab. Naturally, it reminded me of this episode
“According to some the hare has longer ears so he’s faster.....obviously” I would like to know what kind of logic this is.
"If he has long ears, then he has a long..." logic.
Autumn 101 the same logic for sending the tortoise as a messenger to warn the other animals about the fire because he's the "fastest" according to race outcome.
Love it. I am 45 years old and I remember the story very well. Since I have been watching this channel almost all of the stories I grew up with you have explained and I love it. My generation thanks you. Keep it coming bro. Lmao. P.S. You are hilarious.

I'm 47 and love this channel! My bf is 52 and when I'm watching any of the Messed Up Origins he's usually riveted to my laptop in spite of himself--he's learned a lot about creating for RUclips as well as about the funky origins of things from you! You are a wonderful mentor, Jon!
Perfect timing Jon I was just sitting down to eat 👌
When I was a kid I loved Rocky Nd Bullwinkle show. This animated ensemble show included a segment called “Aesop and Son” which your episode reminded me of
I thought that the backstory behind Aesop was that he was a sage/hermit/soothsayer, who had descended back down to civilization, and had posed as a slave so-as to disseminate his many years of accumulated wisdom to the whole of humanity; when people realised that Aesop was too-wise to be a slave, he was made a free-man.
The first version I came across of the tortoise and the hare was at our primary school library. In that version the hare loses because it accidentally steps in a bear trap and slowly dies in it. Wonderful read for 7-12 yo kids.
Good fun.
"Hold your mouth, woman! This is MY affair. Don't get mixed up in men's business. Now hurry up and get dressed because I need your help."
It's safe to say that version wasn't recently written.
Every time time I hear Fables I can't stop thinking of the wolf among us...
No season 2

Yeah, I'm sad too that that never happened. At least there's an excellent comic series to read through.

Jon: “And remember..” Me screaming at my screen: “JON SHOT FIRST!”
"Slow and steady wins the race" Thats what Ive always been told growing up.
i just knew the hedgehog one would be in here lol
it was actually one of my favorite fables growing up, together with another one about three frogs falling into a bucket of cream, two of them drowning because they gave up and just stopped trying to get out and one surviving because his swim movement gradually made the cream into butter and he could climb out.
looking back on it, theres been a lot of violence and death in my kindergarten/elementary school literature, but i guess its only been for the better 🤔🤔🤔
I’ve heard the story about the frogs, but instead they were mice. It’s wild how little things like that get changed from story to story! ^^
Personally, I like the version sung by Red Green.
O, the tortoise and the hare had a race one day,
to see if slow could ever beat fast,
They were neck and neck, until the truck went by,
and they both ended up dead last.
Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
Thank You
Good old uncle Red
zakfett92 I'm pulling for ya, we're all in this together
Oh wow RED GREEN! Love him 💙
Yes! Love Red Green!
I used to think that the moral of the story was “ don’t stop even if you know your winning”
"Twas once a forest full of squabbling creatures who could not agree whom among them was the fastest. Eventually, they all agreed to stage a race to decide, betwixt a tortoise and a hare, the latter of which was not interested, for he felt the answer was obvious. In the end, however, his arrogance proved to be his undoing, and the tortoise won the race.
Long story short, they all died in a fire. The End."
Nothing like a Solo vid right after work. 👍❤
Or during work! I love my job, and that I have all the freedom to watch Messed Up Origins as long as I do my other tasks.
Hi Jon Solo, love the channel 🖤🐇🐢
Thank you for one of my childhood favorites 🏃♀️from Aesop's Fables🏃♂️

Same here!xD 'Only' grew up with the hedghog and hare
I'm not even German (I'm from Japan) and I've hward both versions. 😊
Relatability? Perhaps they didn’t have hedgehogs in Ancient Greece 🤷🏽♀️
I never grew up with the hedgehog and the hare. To me that sounds like if Sonic would race againest a hare.
Because tortoises are more common at least in america where you would only likely see a hedgehog as a pet or in a zoo but may see a tortoises near any stream or park or backyard

*_The part where the Tortoise had won the race against the Hare is equivalent to Pewdiepie has more subs than T-Series._*
Wouldn’t T-series be the torstise cause the rabbit (pewpidpie) was so good and fast growing so he relaxed cause he thought nobody could go so fast. Then t-series came along and took the real it by surprise
@@abrahamgonzales1888 Well, I originally going to do comment that before I made this.

@@abrahamgonzales1888 Oh! I also forgot that T-Series is a company. So it's more powerful than Pewds. Also, Pewds make his videos on his own. So it make sense that RUclips is all about YOU, and not some crappy company taking over.
Really good videos like always and have a good day.
Love your channel, I always learn something new!
I always looked at this story as a good one for when it came to getting work done for school/college (if only I ever used it to help me stop procrastinating). I always thought it would have been more applicable to school if the hare lost because he was in such a rush he had gotten lost. That way instead of the hare representing someone who procrastinates, he represents someone who wants to be done with the assignment so bad he rushes it and does a piss poor job, or misses the point of the assignment entirely. Meanwhile the tortoise is a hard worker who actually reads the assignment and takes the time to give it his best effort. Or if you are connecting this story to your actual job, while using my version where the hare loses the race because he got lost instead of took a nap, then the hare is someone who doesn't pay attention when he's working because he'd rather be anywhere else, and so ends up hurting himself, and the tortoise is just someone with a good work ethic who follows safety precautions. This way the "slow" is still relevant in "slow and steady wins the race."
I need to remember that "Hold your mouth, woman!" line.
Worked great for the Brothers Grimm,
Should work well for me! =)
Please do Oliver and Company next!
Remember the Disney cartoon about the Tortoise and the Hare?(Toby Tortoise vs. Max Hare.)

My favorite was the Hare and the Hedgehog
I think the that the last story is an universal moral that could be applied to anything. But I think there are four main morals in this.
1. If you give an award for nothing,it's not worth anything and just decieves people. Not everyone is a winner. And if people have many expectations for someone who can't do it,but believes he can,and so does he, the person will ultimatelly fail.
2. It's better to think things throught and look at them from a different perspective before going to extreme lenghts to prove a point you yourself don't fully understand. You may sound compelling, but if you believed the opposite, the same would happen. In some cases, the opinion doesn't really matter to you,but in the long run, apreading even a minor lie can have consequences.
3.you shouldn't make decisions based on a single event,if the conclusion it led you to contradicts both common sense and the universally accepted thurths.
This story has had three morals so far. Each of the involved did one of these mistakes. The fourth moral is that everyone is at fault. It's the society's fault that the turtle thought it was fast. It was the rabbit's fault for not challenging its beliefs (the extra moral is that if you're good at something,do it. Don't let your talent go to waste). It was the fault of the people who said something that is correct, but irrelevant and called it a proof of a turtle being faster than a hare. But the society isn't just something to blame everything on. We are a part of society and we create it. It is us. It also means that not everyone is equally guilty. Sometimes, someone is objectivelly bad and is fully at fault. Not everything can be justified by blaming it on society. But this is not the case.
I just discovered this channel about two months ago and now I watch every episode. I love your channel.
Thank you so much for making these kinds of videos you really explain things!
