I once read a very bizarre theory about this tale that the tale is actually an allusion to the mechanism of a clock. According to the theory, the hare and the tortoise are actually the the two arrows of the clock, with the hare being the minutes arrow, and the tortoise being the hour arrow. The race is just a representation of the passing of time and the 2 arrows moving around the clock, "chasing" each other out. The tortoise (hour arrow) is always in front of the hare (minutes arrow) because tho it moves slower, it also shows a longer passage of time and by that would always be in front of the minutes. The minutes arrow, on the other hand, show a shorter passage of time and move faster across the clock, but no matter how close and how fast it may get to the hour arrow, it can never catch it. Thus, the hour is supreme over the minute, as the tortoise is supreme over the hare. The theory also stated that the tale came originally from ancient Greece, and talked about a hypothetical chase between Heracles and a tortoise (with the tortoise winning of course, no matter how hard Heracles tried to defeat it).
@@aurobindosarkar2017 Yup, in the time the tale was written clocks were already invented. I don't think clocks operated on battery back in those days, but there were a lot of wind-up clocks instead. My favorite versions of this story are the Bugs Bunny/Cecil Turtle cartoons. In one Cecil calls his cousins to help trick Bugs along the race course, similar to the hedgehog tricks.
It's the same old story "The tortoise beat the hare, because slow and steady wins the race" No one hardly ever saw it from the rabbit's perspective, a critter who's whole life is swiftness and speed, wasn't interested in racing a turtle because of how slow they actually move

I love that last version! Tex Avery's *Tortoise Beats Hare* (1941) is similar to the Brazilian version, with the tortoise calling all of his relatives to wait for the rabbit (who in this case is Bugs Bunny) along the race course, the final one, of course, is waiting for him at the finish line.
I've got an old,old book titled An Argosy of Fables-which I got from one of my grandmothers. The first section tells all the fables of Aesop-and then there are sections on other fables from different countries. Many of the later fables(labeled as Modern Fables)are actually poems with special morals-like the Blind Men and the Elephant or The Chameleon.
I always looked at this story as a good one for when it came to getting work done for school/college (if only I ever used it to help me stop procrastinating). I always thought it would have been more applicable to school if the hare lost because he was in such a rush he had gotten lost. That way instead of the hare representing someone who procrastinates, he represents someone who wants to be done with the assignment so bad he rushes it and does a piss poor job, or misses the point of the assignment entirely. Meanwhile the tortoise is a hard worker who actually reads the assignment and takes the time to give it his best effort. Or if you are connecting this story to your actual job, while using my version where the hare loses the race because he got lost instead of took a nap, then the hare is someone who doesn't pay attention when he's working because he'd rather be anywhere else, and so ends up hurting himself, and the tortoise is just someone with a good work ethic who follows safety precautions. This way the "slow" is still relevant in "slow and steady wins the race."
Because tortoises are more common at least in america where you would only likely see a hedgehog as a pet or in a zoo but may see a tortoises near any stream or park or backyard
So interesting! I’ve always been more into folk law then fables but this series is one of my faves on RUclips, every story goes so deep and it’s fun surprising people with the facts I learn from these videos😌 keep up the good work💕
and now it makes sense, sonic the hedgehog has an origin story. I always wondered why, why a hedgehog. definitely better than sonic the turtle unless that turtle's a ninja. hmm much to think about 😂
See, this is basically why I love it when people make remixes/covers of songs. It's so interesting noting the little changes here and there, the overall tone, and overall how the song itself is felt and interpreted by the viewer.
I love the last retelling in the last few minutesof the video. The lessons it teaches are also so true. How many times do you see an things such as a challenge or a race between 2 obviously unequal opponents be allowed or forced to take place because of ignorance, hostility, war. Then you have an the hare who, having a mind of his own, decided to not participate after much internal or moral conflict. He was made out to be a loser. He made his own decision deciding that the race was ridiculous. That made him loss the race but makes me question if the race was worth winning. Then you have great and even deadly consequences for making illogical decisions completely guided by politics, prejudice, and the unreliable results of an irrational contest ("after much debate decided to send the turtle to warn of the fire"). I also like how this retelling touches the idea that the truth was forgotten or hidden by the fact that those who knew the truth died in the fire 🔥. I think that alot of times thats true because the survivors a conflict get to choose the narrative. If a story isn't popular, or its suppressed or goes uncirculated then there's little chance its heard. The winners write the history books. Yeah this version is ironic and much more adult. Not to say I don't love the lessons about arrogance, humility, respectfullness, and squandering talent from the other versions too. I do.
I haven't been here since the beginning and never watched all of your videos but I'll be here till the end love you and your work keep being amazing 😄😄😄😄😁😁😁😁👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤🙂🙂🙂🙂☺☺☺☺😀😁😄😆😉😊😎😍😘😗😙😚☺🙂🤗🙄😏👍👍👍👍👊👊👊👊👊👊👄👄👄👄💘💘💘❤❤❤

Or during work! I love my job, and that I have all the freedom to watch Messed Up Origins as long as I do my other tasks.
That last versions ending was by far thee best. Even though it might seem dark its actually a really good add on to the overall lesson. This is one of my favourite episodes!
So sonic isnt fast, it secretly was his brother colored blue sitting at the ending
Lol
I really liked the last story. Not overthinking things is a good lesson to learn too! Your videos just keep getting better and better. Keep it up
I look forward to these videos every week thank the lord
0:15 it’s about fables. Not about being possessed by a RUclips algorithm. But great facial expressions. 9 out of 10
Another Messed up Origin vid? I must be blessed😌
Thank you for another amazing episode and the skillshare promo. I always look forward to messed up origins and I hope you never stop growing as an entertainer.
i really love these messed up origins videos!
you have a new subscriber!😊
You currently have the best kind of content on youtube. It's entertaining, somewhat educational and most of all nothing to do with drama! Honestly love your channel
2:56 Ha Ha - “While the hare was sleepin’, the tortoise kept creepin...” the tortoise is a cheating spouse....😆
Man, you're good! Even as a 50 year old man , I still enjoy your vids on stories, fairytales and fables.
"The race is not for the swift but for those who can endure"
Thanks again Jon Solo I really love your work. My mum and dad and teachers at school taught me these stories as a kid. It is such a joy and a delight to hear these ledgends fables and origins foretold once more.
*_The part where the Tortoise had won the race against the Hare is equivalent to Pewdiepie has more subs than T-Series._*
Wouldn’t T-series be the torstise cause the rabbit (pewpidpie) was so good and fast growing so he relaxed cause he thought nobody could go so fast. Then t-series came along and took the real it by surprise
@@abrahamgonzales1888 Well, I originally going to do comment that before I made this.
@@abrahamgonzales1888 t series is a big company that had millions of resources when started and pewdiepie started out by himself. Pewdiepie did it the long hard route, while t series bought it is way.
@@abrahamgonzales1888 pewdiepie vs. Tseries is more like the clever small guy against the Ugly ogre. Unfortunately for him, the small guy might not be able to last because tseries doesn't seem to be ready to concede.
@@abrahamgonzales1888 Oh! I also forgot that T-Series is a company. So it's more powerful than Pewds. Also, Pewds make his videos on his own. So it make sense that RUclips is all about YOU, and not some crappy company taking over.
I love how Jon turns my childhood into a lie, but I can't seem to stop loving his videos.
*EVERYTHING'S A LIE!!!*
That was very informative as someone who's never heard of The Tortoise and the Hare and just knows the phase, 'Slow And Steady Wins The Race.'
Hey Mr.Solo you should do all of Aesop's fables. He was a great writer
That would take forever
@@moonlightsnightcorestuido388 okay maybe not all of them lol
@@iammrhill5379 I wish he would do all of them to but it would take him forever
@@moonlightsnightcorestuido388 I fully agree
I really do enjoy this channel, was always captivated by myths, urband legends n fables, could listen all day
Still can't be slower than reverse Flash because he doesn't even exist
Barry Allen is a liar. Fastest man alive my ass, there's always someone faster. 😬
@@milesparker557 in the comics Wally west is faster
@Claudia Tejada r/wooosh
@Claudia Tejada No, the joke went WAY over your head
@Claudia Tejada can you please shut up and accept you've been r/woooshed
I can't even tell your reading from a prompter, you did just as slick as you've done any video, and I was intently watching more then usual to see if you'd give some tell, and you've had pop ups before so, just as amazingly slick as ever.
If the hare asked for a rematch, I'd be no contest
Tex Avery's *Tortoise Beats Hare* (1941) is similar to the Brazilian version, with the tortoise calling all of his relatives to wait for the rabbit (who in this case is Bugs Bunny) along the race course, the final one, of course, is waiting for him at the finish line.
I’m subscribed and I have notifications on... but I didn’t get a notification, why RUclips why!? I love this series.
I’m addicted to your videos deadass been watching your origins explained videos all day
Really good videos like always and have a good day.
I just love the little tune at the beginning of all these origin videos.
Do the origins of marry popins
Just watch the movie, "saving Mr banks"
I've got an old,old book titled An Argosy of Fables-which I got from one of my grandmothers. The first section tells all the fables of Aesop-and then there are sections on other fables from different countries. Many of the later fables(labeled as Modern Fables)are actually poems with special morals-like the Blind Men and the Elephant or The Chameleon.
Ooo can you do the mary popins next pleasee
That would be interesting great suggestion
Yes!
on da list :)
@@JonSolo do itttttttt
It's Mary Poppins! Learn to spell.
I am from Germany and never understood why it is a Tortoise instead of a hedgehog.
Same here!xD 'Only' grew up with the hedghog and hare
I'm not even German (I'm from Japan) and I've hward both versions. 😊
Relatability? Perhaps they didn’t have hedgehogs in Ancient Greece 🤷🏽♀️
I never grew up with the hedgehog and the hare. To me that sounds like if Sonic would race againest a hare.
I always wondered why, why a hedgehog. definitely better than sonic the turtle unless that turtle's a ninja. hmm much to think about 😂
Love your channel, I always learn something new!
Saving up for your merch Jon!
You're on the same level as a news anchor when it comes to reading the script while looking at the camera, very natural. Good job.
I need to remember that "Hold your mouth, woman!" line.
Worked great for the Brothers Grimm,
Should work well for me! =)
Nice video on the Tortoise and the Hare, I liked hearing about the different versions of the story. That last version seems very interesting.
Can you do the origins of Santa Claus?
I use to read the tortoise and the stag, and loved it. This was a great reminder of my terrible childhood. Thank you.
Can you do Grasshopper and the Ants please?
See, this is basically why I love it when people make remixes/covers of songs. It's so interesting noting the little changes here and there, the overall tone, and overall how the song itself is felt and interpreted by the viewer.
Please do Oliver and Company next!
Remember the Disney cartoon about the Tortoise and the Hare?(Toby Tortoise vs. Max Hare.)
I do.

I'm Brazilian and I have never heard the story told like that EVER, but great video as always!

You're really good at concluding the story and all the moral of the story stuff

I just discovered this channel about two months ago and now I watch every episode. I love your channel.
Great video! That's all I have to say. Oh yeah, Jon shot first.
Ive really come to enjoy your videos so much. I admire your storytelling skills!!! And also the work you put into making all of this is astonishing and not only am I entertained, I also get to learn some stuff like the Aarne Thompson Index. I’m learning more from your videos than I did in my literature class! Thanks, Jon ♥️
Please do The Lion and the Mouse next!
A minor detail of your vids I'm sure is oft overlooked: I *LIKE* the font used for your segments titled overlays! Many are no longer compatible with upgraded apps, but I once had a tally of 2500+ fonts on my Windows 3.1! (Yeah, I'm a font fan as well as Solo fam!) I like the olde-school appearance of the segment titles. Well done, Jon!
