Hi, my name is Samy and I am a long-time partner of RoninBlue. It is with great sadness that I announce RoninBlue’s sudden passing of a heart attack on Monday, August 16, 2021.
RoninBlue was passionate about personal finance and early retirement and loved sharing his knowledge with all of you on RUclips.
RoninBlue has put a lot of love and energy into making these videos and I would like to thank each and every one of you for sharing in his joy and for supporting his channel up to now. I wish you all the best.
Love, Samy
Thank you for pinning this sad update. Hope you are okay...it is known to be the worst pain to lose your significant other.
So sorry to hear about your loss.
I am sorry for your loss. His videos are great. I just got to know this site.
I'm sorry for your loss! That's sad :( Robin n his great spirit will be greatly missed.
Thank you for providing an update. I am so sorry for your loss.
Well let me say this. Native California here. I was in Portugal in January 2022. We were there for 4 weeks. Visited many towns between Porto and Lisbon. I could give you 114 reasons not to retire in California. The 14 reasons not to retire in Portugal don't even come close to the 114 reasons not to retire in California. Believe you me, you probably don't want to know anyway
I could give a million plus reason not to live in the USA
Pretty much anywhere is better than California these days.
👏👏👏👏
i prefere usa then this shit place
I was born in the US 75 years ago, and I still haven’t integrated.
Not one of these reasons was enough to change my mind
when are you going to go? I am also going at the beginning of next year

are You sure ? what about the narrow roads ?
These are the most stupids things not to go to reiré to Portugal, may e he is trying to let other not to move and get overcrowded of Americans? Hahaha thank you then! I hope he doesn’t live in Portugal BC he will have a pice of me if i find him in the street. Pacific Ocean is very cold in San Francisco
I'm with you ...🤣🤣 I have to laugh when he mention Portugese winter ,mediteranian climate is one of the most pleasent to live
FYI I had made more friends in Portugal in 7 years than in 37 years in USA. I mean real friends that invite you to their homes to eat and sleep and share with you the intimate things of their lives.
That is just how Portuguese are, hospitality is a gift. As a foreigner I can say very little cultures understand hospitality as much as the Portuguese. But of course the Portuguese have their downfalls, hospitality isn't one of them.
I'm portuguese, i do agree with most of those, but not all. Regardless, my country is one of the best countries to live in. Life in Lisbon and Porto is totally different from living on the rest of the country, in all aspects you mentioned. The true portuguese experience is in smaller cities and cozy little towns, genuine people, traditional cuisine, beautiful scenery. That's the quality of life we have, it is awesome, actually glad it is still a hidden gem. I wanna keep it that way.
Hi Armando. Could you please let me know which is the best place of Portugal to live. I would prefer to hear a portugues about it. Thanks in advance. I'm looking for a place, and believe me it is being difficult to me because all places I see I like. jajaja
@@naturerelaxmusic2598 anywhere but Lisbon and Porto. There's so much beauty outside the big main cities, especially in Portugal!

I’m coming to live there, and brining all my family and friends.
I smoke, love windy roads, like looking at the sea rather than getting my feet wet, work for myself, love cash over cards, know how to fit central heating myself, and don't mind cheap food and wine. Now what are the downsides exactly ?
Love your comment!
I second that, I'm on my way
I guess Spain could be a better option. Choose the Mediterranean 👌
Smoke what? 😏
Narrow roads, carry cash, not understanding the language? Well, stay in your hole were you belong right? He is so fedicuouls! I was there and live people and everything about it! There are many worse places in USA, like San Francisco!
I don't care about this list...I want to go to Portugal still. Great video.

A lot more Portuguese people know English than Americans Portuguese. Imagine this: It’s enriching to learn another language and Portuguese is beautiful.
Are you seriously saying that the reason not to live in Portugal is to not learn the language? That’s insane.
This cracked me up! 👏...every single reason mentioned 'against' felt like a paradise to me...x
Because only like 10% of the video is accurate. Even the imagery are from ROTOR, not Portugal. It is WAY WORST.
The beauty of Portugal is that it packs a powerful punch in a small package...Mountains, beaches, Rivers, lakes and Islands...Did I mention the food...I lived in the capital for 4 years and loved it...But I also traveled around the country and took the roads less traveled and ended up in Ponte de Lima...Simply fantastic...I'm from the U.S. and what I've learned on this journey called life, is that you don't move to another country to change it or brings your views about how things should be or how things are from where your from, but to embrace diversity and go with the flow...Not perfect but just right...Been blessed to live and travel in many countries around the World...It would be tough for any country I have lived in to match the quality of life I have here in Portugal today...Bênçãos e energia positiva! 🇵🇹✌🤙🤘

Although some of these points hold true, I don't agree with many of these observations. I've been living in Portugal for more than 20 years, split between Lisbon and the interior (Alentejo), so have plenty of experience as a foreigner here. Some of the points raised in the video are very out of date: Portugal has changed radically over the last 25 years or so. Also, some of the observations are very specific to the major cities rather than the country as a whole. Where you live plays a huge role in how you perceive the country.
The comments on driving are a mixed bag. Portugal was an incredibly dangerous place for driving 25 years ago. Now, on the other hand, the standard of driving is not so different to the United States. Which is, it has to be said, nor particularly good - or particularly safe - either compared with those countries with the best and safest roads in the world. I would definitely rank Portugal as now more or less average for a European country in this regard. Drink driving used to be a very bad problem and still is in certain age ranges. Generally, though, Portuguese drivers - particularly those under 50 years of age - have become much like any other country in Europe. Parking, on the other hand, can be a little hit and miss: especially at supermarkets with pickup trucks and large vans.
Aggressive drivers tend to mount up within cities like Lisbon. This is now rarely noticeable outside of those areas and in some of the very busy multilane highways that serve them in the mornings and evenings. Outside of these areas, driving has become very relaxed (and far safer) with traffic trundling along at more or less the legal limits: 90km/h on most country roads and 120km/h on motorways. Yes, people pass / overtake at these speeds ... but not for the most part these days. Whereas 20 years ago the rule seemed to be that you should drive as fast as your car could go. Tailgating used be rife. Now it's very much the exception rather than the rule. Except, of course, in certain built-up areas.
Road tolls (in those areas that have them) mount up and can be expensive. But many areas / common journeys don't have them so don't impact people much. This is more in the country than around cities (where use of toll roads is, in practice, necessary for much of the time).
Some of the points raised around consumer prices would have been very true once, but not so much now. Once purchase tax (IVA, at 23%) is deducted from the price, the differences with the United States are not so dramatic. But then Americans pay incredibly silly money for healthcare (or worry about it) and medicines which (more) than compensates for this difference. Many Portuguese retail prices are in line with France, Germany, Spain and Italy. And tend to be a little cheaper than the UK these days. Which definitely wasn't true 10 to 15 years ago. Some are substantially cheaper: promotions and internet pricing are very competitive. I used to import many items from the UK. These days I tend to buy from Portuguese or Spanish companies that deliver into Portugal. It's often cheaper and/or with better discounts available depending on the item.
Supermarkets in Portugal have traditionally been very expensive for some consumer items. Cosmetics and toiletries can be very expensive. As can some kinds of processed food (such as breakfast cereals which are incredibly expensive here compared with places like the UK). Meat and cheese are expensive compared to places like the UK. But the quality and the range of these is quite a bit better.
Cars in Portugal are very expensive due to the tax regime. This has always been so, unfortunately. Wages for most Portuguese people are very low. And rents these days are very high relative to the earning power of the average Portuguese. For foreigners who have overseas income, this isn't really a huge problem.
Integration into Portuguese society is pretty easy. The language isn't so hard to learn (no more than Spanish or German, for example) but does require more effort than languages like French (for an English-speaker). There's a wide range of English language TV available so culturally you don't have to watch Portuguese TV at all if you don't want to. And this, rather than Portuguese itself, will be one of the biggest barriers to foreigners living here. Nothing forces you to speak Portuguese. And many won't, thinking that hardly anybody does - not realising that the number of Portuguese speakers is on a par with the number of French speakers and completely dwarfs the number of Russian and German speakers.
Cold housing in winter time is a problem, though. Most older buildings have no thermal insulation and it's this, rather than a lack of heating, that is the problem. Portuguese houses lose heat in the summer (or don't let it in or a mixture of the two) and traditional houses are relatively comfortable in summer, even without air conditioning. But winter time in Portugal in an old house in the countryside - while idyllic in summer - can be unpleasantly cold and damp.
If you can afford to live in Portugal (in terms of your income or savings) then the quality of life here is very high. People are friendly and helpful. It's very safe. And the climate is good for most of the year. All in all a very nice place to live.
Thank you for your well written reply. A lot of what you write, I’ve experienced. I don’t understand why anyone would live in another country and not even try to learn the language. Seems odd to me.
Thank you for sharing your experience of living in Portugal. Our family lived in Peru many years ago - So many of the points brought out in this video could have been said about our experience there. However, living in another culture and experiencing the wonders was well worth going beyond any of our petty American ideas about life and living. On the other hand, it is good to know the "cons" and to be prepared for them, but I was glad to read your updates.
@@marshamcintosh4790 Thank you, Marsha. Have a good weekend! 😉
Question please
Is working in transport in Lisbon profitable?
For example, buying 4 electric cars, hiring drivers and running them with Uber, or opening a taxi office
@@portugal369 Sorry. I really don't know the answer to this, I'm afraid.
I love everything about Portugal, especially the "no rush to do anything."
Yeh, it’s great, until you need to do anything!
That is BS. It is not "no rush" , is having no money to do anything. It is sad and depressing. It is like we all given up.

Sim é verdade o idioma português é Lindo, tem um problema a lingua portuguêsa é traiçoeira e dificil de aprender e perceber.
Yes, it is true, the Portuguese language is beautiful, there is a problem, the Portuguese language is treacherous and difficult to learn and understand.
I am not from Portugal but i think people in Portugal are grateful that you don't plan on living there for many reasons, at least until you learn how to drive, talk/speak, eat, use cash, appreciate seasons including winter, and most importantly know how to retire.
I just wasted 15 minutes watching a stupid video from a guy that claims to be an expert on retirement in a country he never lived in and it seems that he also is an expert on many other countries as well, the ocean in winter is cold, but beautiful in the summer, the sun rises every day, the food is cheap and good, people are friendly, retired but looking for work...wait i am retired i shouldn't work, grey skies in the winter for few months... clouds are grey and it rains sometimes. Most languages are not easy to learn if you are not living and practicing, so for someone like you that does NOT live there, you probably will never learn.
Totally agree with you! I’m Brazilian but love Portugal. And if u can’t accept the country the way it is u should stay far. Portugal is lovely. This video doesn’t make any sense.
@@Laracarvalho21 Sadly lots of people aren't sensible enough to realise this.
I am portuguese and I never carry money. Always cards. I have more problems with my telephone in USA than in Portugal...
I agree. With you!
It’s hardly a stupid video and he does highlight the good things about the country plus the fact that perceived drawbacks occur in other european countries as well.
Sorry for your loss. He left a meaningful legacy with his content.
I cannot agree with everything here...
1) The roads and highways in Portugal are overall good and not always steep or narrow. Also the people there drive a lot better than in Spain or Italy. I am German so I can tell driving in Portugal isn't much of an issue.
2) Portugal is a tax heaven if you earn money from a non-portuguese source.
3) Portuguese are actually quite hard-working. Their work mentality is quite good for Southern European standards.
4) Petrol is expensive in all of Southern Europe. If you can get a liter for 1,60€ this is very cheap. Only Eastern Europe has cheap fuels.
5) Making friends is hard anywhere in foreign places, especially if you don't speak the foreign language.
Bro, the first reason you said in the comment, I dont agree is because some roads in cities or towns are the worst. And the third reason you said is not true also, the Portuguese are lazy and dont get good salaries. And reason number 4, in spain, you can get €1,60 in central Spain and somewhere near Mediterranian Sea.
Yes, all the reasons not to live in Portugal are very redundant and superfluous, only the salary and bureaucracy.
In terms of consumer goods, if you move to any country, until you settle you will have no idea where you can get cheaper things.
I know foreigners living in Portugal for years and they don't even know how to say "Olá" and they are fine.
There are so many foreigners in Portugal, if you don't make Portuguese friends, you will make other friends, until you are able to expand.
I spent a month in Lisbon. A month too long.
When the sun set, hoards of thousands of rats would roam the streets, brasenly rushing about looking for food.
Drivers would drive through red lights, completely ignoring them. At a restaurant, I saw a waiter striking a busboy.
Never had I seen these things while touring all of Europe.
Omg rats, that got me.
Finally some one with REAL experiences. I hate how they fake how Portugal is wonderful. To me it has been my jail since 1981.
He forgot to add the following:
The nights are way too dark in Portugal
When you look at the Sun in Portugal it can hurt your eyes
Don't jump off buildings OR bridges in Portugal because gravity will pull you down FAST (no matter where you are in Portugal)
Don't drink the ocean water by Portugal--it is VERY salty

Be careful! You have to pay for your food in Portugal.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Exactly 🤣🤣🤣
really man this video is such bullshit, its so bad.
Where do you eat for free?
making friends in Portugal its easy, in most countries even after going for long period to the same establishment, if you missing a few cents, the owner will twist his nose, in Portugal the owner of the establishment will take personally if you don't go there and open a tab and he only needs to know that person is from the Neiborhood or near by or simply just known by the majority of people that use that same establishment, so i can only conclude you think too much of yourself thus not approaching no one or give the chance to be approached
You will make a lot of friends, if you are paid more then them and pay them beers. Other then that, they will sell you out in a no time.
Ha! We now live here and were blessed with Portuguese friends within days. Our neighbors speak no English and with wine and Google Interpreter we feel closer to them the most people we’ve ever met. Even gifts of food and roses! We had high hopes. The truth is beyond our expectations!
If I moved there, I would make an effort to learn the language, just like I hope someone would moving to the States.
True, I moved to Portugal and it's required to learn at least A2 Portuguese.
As a Brit who retired here, this vid is spot on mostly and I would recommend anyone thinking about living here
to seriously consider everything in this vid. For me, all the cons are things I am really comfortable with and some
are actually pros for me so it's been a great choice for me, I wouldn't live anywhere else now:)
I think the biggest problem is that so many people considering moving here don't do their homework
and make decisions based on how they saw PT as a tourist....BIG mistake. Most of the foreigners I talk
to who do a lot of bitching are those that saw the beautiful tourist country and living here would be like
being a perm tourist....DUMB perspective, and they will constantly suffer the annoyances!
I don't consider foreigners who don't speak Portuguese as rude. I consider them guests.
This video has a few imprecisions (consumer goods are not expensive and you can order online) but on the whole (expensive housing, high energy costs) it does correctly identify the main drawbacks of life here. I'm not sure how low salaries are a negative if you want to retire here. Low salaries = cheap services. And that seems like a plus, if you're getting your retirement cheque from somewhere else. Also, if you move here to retire, you'll be classified as a "non-habitual resident", which means almost no tax on that retirement for the first 10 years. If your home country has a double-taxation treaty with Portugal (most rich-world countries do), that means you won't get taxed at home, either. Those tax breaks can help you pay for home insulation of whatever place you end up getting, so you won't be so cold in winter. Old houses are poorly insulated, although many have had retrofits.
On the whole, though, you do have to weigh the positives (great weather, good food, generally friendly people, good healthcare, cheap services, one of the lowest crime rates in the world and good flight connections to many places) against what's on this video.
Oh! And the reason many small stores don't have payment terminals is not because they don't get coverage (That's just the excuse they give. We have some of the best mobile network coverage in the world). It's because, by law, the banks have to report to the tax authorities all transactions made on those payment terminals. The authorities then corelate that information with reported earnings. A lot of the smaller retailers prefer not to give so much information to the tax man.
The point about the signal really got me triggered. I was about to type a comment on that until I found yours. It's precisely due to the reason you've stated, plus they pay a fee everytime someones pays by card. Hence the very common minimum of €5 per purchase if you're going to pay by card.
My daughter and I visited Portugal just before Covid and I was shocked by the price of some consumer goods. Her luggage was lost in Amsterdam so we had to buy her some clothing in Lisbon. I was amazed at how expensive things were. I mean, wow! Super expensive. I love Portugal very much, but I don't understand how people afford it. I will visit there often when I retire in the U.S., but I don't know if I could afford to actually move there. But a piece of my heart will always be in Portugal.
Mas acho que depois um tempo a gente deveria de aprender um bocadinho se eles vao morar la nao eh? Um visitante e uma coisa e estrangeiro que espera hospedagem sim respeter as costumes do lugar e otra...

Portugal is still one of the best places to retire to on earth with virtually zero violent crime. The cost of living is quite affordable compared to most of Europe and the Western world. I’ve lived in Portugal for over 7 years. It is a great place with great people and I do not speak Portuguese either.

This video is absolutely ridiculos. Narrow streets and many bends in small country roads? Haha. This is the case in Norway, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Croatia, Greece and so on.
The Ocean in winter is bloody cold even in Morocco. So if you are not really stupid, what would you expect 500-800 km to the north.
Portuguese is a difficult language? But in Porto, even the 4 year old kids are fluent. So what. For uneducated gringos any foreign language is extremely difficult. It is even hard for them to understand that foreign people have a different language. French is difficult for them, German is complicated. Let alone Russian.
Even in Mexico houses are cold in the winter. In Italy, Israel, Syria and in Egypt too. There is nothing as cold as
the Sinai desert in a January night.
If you go to travel with such a mind set and expectations, you better stay in Detroit.
@Ego
I used to smoke modestly, but stopped it in 1974. Since than I enoy 1 or 2 cigarettes every 3 or 4 months at special occasions.
No addiction. Of course I don´t like bars full of smoke. So, I don´t go. In well aired areas or street cafes I don´t feel disturbed.
A real problem are them dry drinkers and clean smokers. They are militant und agressive against drinkers/smokers, because of their own internal problems. Unsuportable people.
I lived in Morroco, Egypt, Norway and Mexico. Of course I travelled to Portugal, Spain, Algeria, Libya, Lebanon, Turkey, Syria,Italy, France and 3 dozen other countries on all continents. So, the whole video is just ridiculous. Who does this simple minded guy think he is? Has he ever dealt with customs officer in Egypt? Ore a policeman in Kazakstan? Or with the water supplier in Mexico. Poor fool. Nobody in all of Europe needs him.
I will never leave Portugal. Born in Amsterdam.
@Ego It's total non-sense.
@Ego it is not allowed to smoke inside the buildings. Only outside.
You should take a look on Madeira Island !! Lots of people are getting there to live..

been in portugal. Never experienced all the negatives you stated. it's a lovely country.
Of course.
You are not Portuguese. Or white (no offense, this is a continuation of the African countries, even the prime minister that is leading us to ruin is not white). 80% of the portuguese dont live here.
Excellent video.

Not so cold ocean in Algarve region in summer closer to spain...temperatures could reach 25°/ 27° maximum...thats preety great water temperature but the best temperature is 22/23° more refreshing and healthier...by the way its because of having a cold Atlantic ocean that we have the best fish in the world! If you want to eat great fish and have an healthier lifestyle and live longer, Portugal is for sure one of the best countries in the world to live and retire! Small but beautifull from North to South and Islands...one of the best! 👍
Driving in Portugal is so much fun. In California, most people don't know how to drive (manual transmission). Portugal is also safer to drive than California.
when the cold ocean is a reason i rest my case
I live in Northern New Hampshire by the Canadian Border...Greenland is 700 miles away. Right now? Buffalo NY is getting hit with 5 feet of snow and white out conditions...It's -44F with the wind chill...Believe me, I can stay warm! My house is 54°F degrees right now, WITH the heat going...it's 7°F outside...I can take a Portugal winter!!
Be careful! The water is wet in Portugal.
Portugal is one of the three safest and peaceful countries in the world. It has a healthy climate, friendly and welcoming people and exceptional Mediterranean cuisine. The landscapes are incredible, with beutifull historic towns and villages.
Anyone who wants to come, is certainly welcome. Whoever doesn't want to come, we're sorry, but we don't force anyone to come here.
Portugal é o 6° país mais pacífico do mundo.
Tu não estás a par da realidade do nosso país.
A cada dia que passa caminhanos para um terceiro mundo. Esse rank é uma treta.
My pleasure to come to Portugal it I managed to make it. Definitely no country in earth is 100% perfect. Love to dear Portuguese from Beirut Lebanon
Portugal is one of the best countries in all of the EU.
Total nonsense crime figures are low because the police are useless. Go to tourist areas at night zero police and drugs being sold openly. The Portuguese think they are the best country but so many of them leave to work in other countries. Massive shortage of labour and thousands being brought from other countries to fill the gaps.
Hello, we really like your channel. Thumbs up!
Wish you all a merry christmas 🧡❤
You are absolutely right
Be careful. There are many clouds loads of water in Portugal and they can fall out.
If you don’t speak the language, forget it. The basics of Portuguese isn’t that difficult to learn but the verbs are ultra complicated and the real difficulty is understanding other people because of the pronunciation.
You don’t have to be fluent. In fact locals love that you make an effort learning and speaking their language. Try doing that in France.
@@SuperOuuuuu Yes I’m very aware that you don’t have to be fluent and most Brazilians are very helpful. However without a reasonable knowledge of Portuguese you will struggle and as in any country, not just Brasil, there’s always those who will take advantage of your limited knowledge.
Well, I'd say apart from the cold Atlantic ocean..... Never heard of the warm gulf stream?
Living outside the major cities its easy to find long term rentals and in the south the water is warm.
YOU FORGOT TO SAY THAT PORTUGAL IS ONE OFF THE SAFEST COUNTRIES TO VISIT. BESIDES THE BEAUTY.
Até quando?!

The broom!! My mom would hit ceiling with the broom
very true ! thanks
I'm half Portuguese and I agree on the bureaucracy - it's maddening. Not as bad as it was in the past but - um - that's not saying much :)
Here's my 5 cents of input:
1. Making friends: assimilate as much as possible and try to integrate in common interests... social, economic, politics, sports, etc.
2. Language: it is a good investment to learn it, specially in interacting with older people. Most young people speak English, albeit a bit broken, but don't rely on it only.
3. Consumer goods expensive: when buying, shop around. There's always a good deal somewhere.
4. Cold grey winters: when living in the northern hemisphere, that's what you get. But do adapt your lifestyle to the weather, then it's actually not bad at all.
5. Bureaucracy: it's annoying and efficiency is not a priority in dealing with the public. But the paperwork is worth it in the end.
6. Need to carry cash: well, cash is king and it's no different here. Cash never fails and doesn't talk.
7. No rush: jest for efficiency isn't there, but the people's attitude is slowly changing.
8. Salary: unfortunately, most businesses are avaricious, but the employees need to be more productive to show value.
9. Over tourism: well, it seems that the food and wine are in great demand. Yes, the place can get a bit over-crowded, but not like Bangkok.
10. Noise levels: the people can be a bit loud, but it's only genetic excitement. It's best to get used to it or avoid noisy areas.
11. Cold ocean: accept it and get used to it. On a positive note, the sea water is refreshing in the hot summers.
12. Driving: sadly, there are lunatics on the road. It's best to be safe and vigilant on the roads.
13. Long term rentals: a better option is to buy a property. There are many options and opportunities available.
14. Smoking: it's annoying, inconsiderate and unhealthy, but it's a silly status symbol and bad habit. There's an old saying: if you don't drink, don't smoke and don't f*ck, then what do you do?
How do you make Friends with Portuguese when 50 % doesnt speak English or any other foreign language or da other 50% are Racists???
Ouch! I am Portuguese and you scratched most of the wounds!!!
Sant sorry to listening so sad new. My heart is with his family. Thank you to let me know it. 😊
Well, the comments here are the most helpful. I live in the US and would like to retire in Portugal. We could make a video of 14 reasons not to live in the US or anywhere. I like to read what people say who know the place.
14? That's low!
So true, lol. My husband and I are preparing to walk on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela and I happened to be on a site that was telling of the "dangers" of being in Spain. My husband did a little research and came back with the information that on a list grading countries of the world by how safe they are, Spain is about #6 and the US is # 139!!!
Ask Madonna... she's eventually left Portugal 😆
Exactly..Ive lived in Chicago my whole life but I feel it is not going to improve neither locally or nationally..it is too divisive with too many polarizing issues...and its getting very expensive..I just turned 40 and would love to just get out of the U.S
Just came back from 2 week holiday in Portugal, its so cheap to live here and the people are really nice and friendly. I would live in Portugal

LOL. Some of things you say are simply untrue. I'm Portuguese and I almost never carry money with me. 95% of the time I use a contactless card or the smartphone to pay. Honestly: that's not true. I don't know how you came up with that. You're joking right?
Not he’s not joking at all, writing this to reply you is my solidarity for this guy who can’t reply you for itself because he already passed away suddenly in heart attack, by the way just because you use cards to shop thosent really means 99% of Portuguese does I guess
I love the cold water of my beautiful country is one of the reasons for me its the best place to swim, i hate warm waters for ex i dont like the south Algarve bc water is like a soup. I love the salty refreshing wavy ocean from centre to north portugal, I smoke so no problem there
Im portuguese none of the "problems" above interfere with my life considering I lived in the USA and IK living here back in my country its a complete paradise compared to other countries i lived, and its freedom here too, real freedom, dont have to pay to go to ANY beach, u can decide to wear bikino or not, u have no very ugly in my opinion signs like "private property" NO, here the nature is to be enjoyed by all. The only thing its horrific for me is the people who love to set fires in the summer, thats the ONLY problem I see here.
very cheap too, BEST food in the world I only eat fish, veggies and such and so theres more here than I can ask for, fruit is the very best as well. Also and that was the one of the main reasons too I decided to come back, u dont need to insurance to see a doctor, so many times I was sick as a dog and never saw a doctor in the US, awful just awful, now I have more doctors than I can count and being 52 years old you start seeing and needing the help of them more and more it should be a human right not a need and for such a rich country as USA is i still cant believe people there strugle with that where here in my little poor small country u DONT need insurance just walk in a clinic and see one. Fantastic weather just in my view its PARADISE

the way yout talk is for me very funny. i had to smile, also when you talk about negative thing.s I guess now i dont wanna go anymore to portugal. thanks. :-). (I guess if you tell in this way stories to persosn who are depressed or something ou also help them with the way you talk, is very funny haha
For the heating reason it’s because houses that don’t have heating usually have fire places which are pretty effective and for the language its just common sense to learn it
I am portuguese and I don't agry on most of this 14 points. It is like he visits my country in the 60s and not in 2021
Nós anos 60, eu tinha muito melhor qualidade de vida que tenho hoje.
In this vídeo there are some truths (low wages, cold seas and cold winter weather - it's the Atlantic not the Caribbean, driving is difficult - but we have an extensive network of highways, bureaucracy, and so on) but there is a lot lies: it is not allowed to smoke inside commercial establishments, schools, public buildings, etc., only on the street; most people use payment cards a lot (debit, credit, etc.), we have the best ATM systems in the world with which we can do many transactions; there is the possibility of long-term lease, obviously, you have to look hard. Our lifestyle is calmer and service is more relaxed. Is making friends difficult? Of course, with the weak ability to understand others it is like this everywhere. The Portuguese distinguish well between friends and simple acquaintances. Friends are those very close people, in whom we trust a lot. The others are acquaintances, we communicate easily with foreigners, but not with those who don't make the slightest effort to understand us. It's not about speaking Portuguese, we know the difficulties foreigners have in speaking the language and, in general, we make an effort to make ourselves understood, but not when on the other side they don't have the capacity to learn the basics or don't make the effort.
Great information, but how about the tax issues? How are taxes expected to affect the retirees? How about the distance to clinics and hospitals? That should take another two videos.
Panama relocation tours!!
Sounds good to me!
jesus man , the cold ocean? it is the freaking atlantic ocean, what do you expect ? I hope that when you talk about the best 14 reasons to not retire to germany, france, england, finland, sweden, netherlands, ireland, and any other european country with an oceanic front to mention the cold ocean:P
The best time to go to the beach is in the winter. Better surf and less people.
People don't move to Scandinavia because of the ocean.
Because the Mediterranean Sea is warmer, or things like Canary Islands also have far warmer water, despite it is also the Atlantic Ocean. There are plenty of places with warmer water and similar cost of living. I mean if weather and sea temperature is a factor to chose a place, people should be aware of it.
Portugal is one of the best places in the world to live or retire to.
Thank you, I did it and it's true!
