The magnificent track which finishes the fine album
'Rattus Norvegicus' and in some considerable style too
Please note I do not own any copyright on the music and visuals used in the creation of this video, and that this was done purely for fans of the band and their music
in '77 we were so used to gorgeous music, that we took "rattus norvegicus" almost for granted. today, nearly forty-four years later, this masterpiece still stands strong in the hearts of the old people like me.
💯👌👍
Me too
So true words spoken RIP Jet Black
"Horses" "77" "First Base" a few album's I purchased back then. PS. I was an old (25 year old) Hippy visiting village punk venue's & having a great time with them.....
100% correct, I second that!
In my top 5 ever ever tunes. What a fantastic album. At 18 years of age this was utter magic. God bless the band. Dave and Jet - RIP. Saw you guys many times. Happy days then….

Now I'm watching them in memory of Jet Black.
AND Jet 😢
@@jjdecani and jet too ??? Superb drummer. Gutted.
RIP JET BLACK.
I see why the Stranglers were alienated from the punk movement back then...they were streets ahead of all the other punk bands in talent and creativity. RIP Dave Greenfield
How so?
plenty of great bands from the Punk era, the MIB one of my favourite Bands ever & I still think that's false
Your right so advance👍
My own theory is . . they looked into the future and saw a chance to outlive their fellow punk rockers using songs and music that was a bit more mainstream. They still had the edge but they realized that destroying the set around them, constantly screaming for social change and then burning out early wasn't conducive to longevity. They made the right choice. And we're all glad for it.
@@68majortom Stranglers were much older than the other bands and had a much different sound and look so I guess they didn't fit in and other bands didn't want them in the scene back then
@@michaelwolf6424 They didn't make the right choice by playing Apartheid Israel though...anyway they were never the same once Hugh left.
One of the best live bands I had the pleasure of watching on several occasions, music was magic.
dave greenfield the apollo glasgow 79 brilliant. RIP.
Down in the sewer, has to be the best track that there has ever been in history
It takes some beating💯👍👌
Some of the best keyboard work ever ....
My favourite favourite Down in the sewer and Genetics, best stranglers songs ever
Dave's keyboards solo still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck after all these years.
I became a fan of the Stranglers back in the late '70s when 3D Dan played them on WOJB 88.9FM ,Hayward, WI. As he said. the 3D stood for duh-duh-duh. The Stranglers became a favorite. I have collected many of their albums , and love to watch the many videos they have produced. Thank you guys , and You Tube for putting them on the air.
Great video for this great song!
this song is Dave keyboards are fantastic the song is my favorite

RIP Dave Greenfield that HAMMOND made The Stranglers so different from other Punk Bands
The Stranglers had never been a punk band
@@laurentperaldi2286 yes they was
This song has a swagger about it how cool
Still sounds fresh. Brilliant.
An absolute masterpiece 👍👍👍👌👌👌
💯👌👍
Brilliant.
I first saw the stranglers back in February 1976 (a full year before their debut single) at a place called The Grey Topper Club in the mining village of Jacksdale on the Notts/Derbys border...and they turned up to the gig in an ice cream van.
This is the best music video by far that I've viewed on YT!
I take my hat off to you John!
I LOVE STRANGLERS
RIP JET AND DAVE.Legends.
RIP Dave Greenfield.
I did not get to see these guys enough.
名曲中の名曲。当時も40年後の現在も、聴いていると思わず耳を傾け他の作業が停まる。
Just a fantastic song and sound... great tight band always, when I found my own music in the 1970,s after listening to Mum and Dads rock and roll, loved the 70,s 80,s and 90,s makes todays music so so insipid! no wonder we keep you tubing and looking for the great sounds from our youths!! brilliant!
RIP Dave Greenfield
Always put Rick Wakeman in the shade
Rick who? :)
other branch
Both superb keyboard players, but with different styles and for different reasons.
HAHAHAHAHAHA...
This is for real Fans, No one else gets that. Hugh introduced the Band menbers while Walk on by in Hope and Anchor Live 11/1977. That's what he announced about Dave
I didn't realize how much acid could stay in my body untill i listened to this.I remeber when they first started touring .Amazing stuff, great punk sounds.
Great song, great band. RIP Dave Greenfield
RIP Dave...you were a part of my youth...miss you!
Great! Simply great!
I never got into these guys when I was a young'un... But jeez, that bass sound is worth the price of admission all by itself. Better late than never, I guess.
Masterpiece.... RIP Dave Greenfield...
This is brilliant, the whole set up is other worldly,we know we are being drawn in , but we secretly want to be inveigled further and further, when the finale arrives more and more we want to be consumed totally, we know our end is near, but we are now totally consumed by the all consuming beat.
The greatest song of all time!
How magic is that organ by the wizard himself brilliant rip dave
Absolutely the best. Long live the Stranglers. Will never forget the glare I received from Baz at Cheltenham in England. Shame I wasn't able to get that autograph as I had been promised. Another let down in life - hey but still a follower of passion
one of my favorite tracks
Love this tune and the album. The last part blows me away. A fabulous piece of art.
LEGENDS !!! THE BEST GROUP EVER !!!

Rest in peace, Jet Black!
I just love the Rats Rally part ... Dave really comes into his own here .
Takes me back and yet still has the same impact upon me as when I first heard it: stunning! 👌👌
Back in the seventies this was my go-to football song - the song I always play before taking the field. Unfortunately it was before ipods and even walkmans. I had play it at home on the stereo loud and then go to football!! "Rats Rally" always got me going....
Brilliant song, brilliant video.🐀
bravo . could listen to this .all day long .tellin ya
A superb video. So well edited. The Stranglers old and new, plus The Pied Piper of Hamelin !

God be with Jett and Dave. The soul of the Stranglers.
The. Stranglers 🌹🌹🌹🌹 26. 3. 2023. Liverpool, 🇬🇧 🏴 👌 ❤️
Another John Gallagher classic. I appreciate real talent when it shows itself. The Stranglers and John Gallagher a brilliant combination.
The song down in the sewer is fantastic the stranglers are legendary and that video was amazing.
(in reply to jonblazeinc).....The end of the 1970s is an era that will never be re-lived, and you can't look back from a modern perspective and try to piece together what it was like by just listening to some of the bands of the time that made it through. There was a whole load of stuff going on, people's attitudes, which are hard to relate to these days. The Stranglers had the right attitude and the music was absolutely in line with other Punk acts. Thinking back I could say just about every punk I knew had those first 3 albums. The second one, No More Heroes was definitely seen as a classic at the time. By the time the Raven came out punk was already diversifying so it wasn't so out of place and everybody I knew went out to get hold of a copy.
Just a great time. Still great now after all these years. Dave Greenfield huge influence.
Class band (best in the world)
r i p Dave Greenfield tu étais le meilleur
What a brilliant band, saw them 4 times from '81-'89. Wow they were good. Dave Greefield's keyboard play was unique and set them apart from the rest.
I just wanted to listen to the track again. I already have it but thought I'd You tube a video.
This is the Rat's Bollocks - great work

Nicely done, John. And a track of sheer genius.
Love the group, love the song. Thanks so much John.
Genius, thank you. I defy any drummer to seamlessly ratchet up the beat in the closing section they way Jet (and now Jim) achieve
R.I.P Jet..No More Heroes.
wow b back so many memories ty
A seminal track, JG but, who could follow that? Just drags you by the throat, back to great younger days, good, bad, and ugly times.

Outstanding Sir. Captured one of the best tracks ever written brilliantly.

top mash up!
Gr8 John! Cheers for you and the MIB.
***** Thanks!
HUGH!!!😍
I know this is from Rattus with video from post Hugh Cornwell added in and that’s fine, me personally I tuned out from my fav band ever when Cornwell left, I know for die hards that will be too much to take but it’s an honest assessment of how I felt, while I’m being honest I’ve not really taken to any Stranglers albums after “Black and white” , maybe it was me just growing up or the band trying to stretch themselves, I dunno but what I do know is that the first 3 albums are never off my turntables or headphones, everyone to their own but there is a world of stonking music in those 3 albums including this majestic soaring work where they all get to shine on the one piece of utterly unique music filling my cans as we speak, love it
Well said mate.the first 3 album's are the best of their work 100%😁
Ditch the headphones & play it loud!
J'avais 17 'ans. Bisous à vous
That the music is fantastic goes without saying, but the way you edited that video is top-notch!
I remember making spliffs to the start of this track A fat one, lit it up and layed back and get lost, LOST.........
mAgic mate
love it again magic
Hard work, but great fun to do at the same time, cheers lads!
Punk Prog. Classic.
