Hey, Algebra 1 and Honors Algebra teacher here. There’s a lot that’s correct about this video, but in Algebra 1, we teach a lot more! Here is a breakdown of the highlights of the curriculum, in order: - Equations - Inequalities - Graphing Linear Equations: slope-intercept, point-slope, and standard form - Systems Of Equations: graphing, solve by elimination and by substitution - Functions: notation, function tables, evaluating inputs to find outputs, identifying functions - Monomials/Polynomials: identifications and degrees, adding/subtracting/multiplying/diving - Quadratic Equations: graphing, solving with factoring, quadratic formula, and completing the square. - Exponential equations: growth and decay For my honor’s course, we’ll also hit a little bit of absolute value functions and piecewise functions. I just wanted to leave this comment so students know exactly what they’re in for if they are going into Algebra 1. It’s a very involved course, but very essential.
This is great timing! I realized that I missed a lot of content looking back. I know that in quite a lot of circumstances, there are topics that must be covered and topics that can be left for a future class for specific subjects. In my case with middle and high school, I missed out on a lot of extra math content because we "didn't get to it" and there was much more that was review for the next class because "we may not have maintained it." For this reason, I plan on making a video of "The Rest of Algebra 1 Explained in 5 Minutes" to fill in the gaps. That's on the way, but in the meantime, thank you very much for your exhaustive subject list! This will help out quite a lot to that end.
@@vampric I’m glad to hear that! Algebraic knowledge is an incredibly useful thing to have. There’s a bunch of great channels on RUclips that can help you get started.

Trying to formalise what Highschool algebra is using undergraduate mathematics is an interesting exercise…so far I don’t think I can say it’s anything beyond solving systems or equations over totally ordered fields.
I took Honors algebra 1 in 8th grade and it still was pretty easy (at least for me). Algebra 1 is more of a middle school level math class than a high school math class. Just take notes/pay attention, read the textbook, do the homework, seek help from your teacher and you will get an A in that class assuming you ace the exams.

System of a Down 😂 Thank you so much for this video. I’m in 10th grade but I have no confidence in my math skills so I chose to take algebra 1 again. Seeing as it was too easy I was given the choice to take the algebra 1 regents (I live in NY). This video has helped regain my confidence in myself, wish me luck 🤞
Me watching this less than a month before transferring to a new college. Haven’t taken math in almost 3 years and I’m hoping it all comes back to me 😂👍🏼
Haha! To be fair, the usage of the letter x as a variable in mathematics is said to have originated with Rene Descartes, an 18th century French philosopher. Although ancient Greek mathematicians used the letter x to denote location in geometry, Rene Descartes used the letter x to symbolize a constant number in his mathematics. As a result, the letter x was accepted as a variable in many fields of mathematics and has since been in use.
I knew all of this stuff in 6th grade. 8th grade curriculum, what are you doing?! You are teaching 6th graders and 8th graders the same things!!! Great video, just wish my school system made sense.
I'm in middle school and got into Algebra class and have been having a lot of troubles and this video helped me especially since I have ADHD! Thank you!!
Did you really just say it was the easiest? Because I couldn't even complete Algebra 1 in highschool (either my school was behind other schools or it was a different time in the early 2000s). I always loved the idea of being able to workout equations but, I struggled so badly with being able to wrap my head around math in general. I tried going to college and needed to do an Algebra 1 course and I ended up with panic attacks. I want, so badly, to be able to go all the way up to physics. I want to understand the universe. I want to be able to contribute to SOMETHING in a field that focus on getting mankind to the stars.
I struggled with math as well for the longest time. I don't think there was any one thing that helped me finally wrap my head around it, but I watched a lot of different videos explaining the concepts and solving problems, like from khan academy and organic chemistry tutor, and even jumped the gun by getting pre-calc for dummies, which also helped introduce me to more advanced versions of functions and graphing. When I got into community college, I got placed into intermediate algebra (which I suppose would be algebra 2 in this case), and I was thankfully able to pass pretty well. I can definitely emphasize with your last statement. I'm looking to go into aerospace so I can work in the spaceflight industry myself, since its been a dream of mine for the longest time. If I had any advice, try to get into a study group, tutoring session, or go to office hours with people/professors willing to help walk you through algebra concepts, and as it starts to make sense, do plenty of practice problems to get those to stick. Watching videos on your own can also help explain things if it doesn't click the first time,.I'll admit, while channels like mathantics are geared for middle/high schoolers, the simpler examples and explanations really helped me before I got into college. Good luck though, I hope it works out for you!
Currently studying for my GED and honestly this helped a good bit! Had lots of trouble with algebra as a kid so thank god you made somethin my dumbass can understand
