    Hey, Algebra 1 and Honors Algebra teacher here. There’s a lot that’s correct about this video, but in Algebra 1, we teach a lot more! Here is a breakdown of the highlights of the curriculum, in order:
    - Equations
    - Inequalities
    - Graphing Linear Equations: slope-intercept, point-slope, and standard form
    - Systems Of Equations: graphing, solve by elimination and by substitution
    - Functions: notation, function tables, evaluating inputs to find outputs, identifying functions
    - Monomials/Polynomials: identifications and degrees, adding/subtracting/multiplying/diving
    - Quadratic Equations: graphing, solving with factoring, quadratic formula, and completing the square.
    - Exponential equations: growth and decay
    For my honor’s course, we’ll also hit a little bit of absolute value functions and piecewise functions.
    I just wanted to leave this comment so students know exactly what they’re in for if they are going into Algebra 1. It’s a very involved course, but very essential.

      @1red2blue4  2 года назад +275

      This is great timing! I realized that I missed a lot of content looking back. I know that in quite a lot of circumstances, there are topics that must be covered and topics that can be left for a future class for specific subjects. In my case with middle and high school, I missed out on a lot of extra math content because we "didn't get to it" and there was much more that was review for the next class because "we may not have maintained it."
      For this reason, I plan on making a video of "The Rest of Algebra 1 Explained in 5 Minutes" to fill in the gaps. That's on the way, but in the meantime, thank you very much for your exhaustive subject list! This will help out quite a lot to that end.

    I took Honors algebra 1 in 8th grade and it still was pretty easy (at least for me). Algebra 1 is more of a middle school level math class than a high school math class. Just take notes/pay attention, read the textbook, do the homework, seek help from your teacher and you will get an A in that class assuming you ace the exams.

    Haha! To be fair, the usage of the letter x as a variable in mathematics is said to have originated with Rene Descartes, an 18th century French philosopher. Although ancient Greek mathematicians used the letter x to denote location in geometry, Rene Descartes used the letter x to symbolize a constant number in his mathematics. As a result, the letter x was accepted as a variable in many fields of mathematics and has since been in use.

    Did you really just say it was the easiest? Because I couldn't even complete Algebra 1 in highschool (either my school was behind other schools or it was a different time in the early 2000s). I always loved the idea of being able to workout equations but, I struggled so badly with being able to wrap my head around math in general. I tried going to college and needed to do an Algebra 1 course and I ended up with panic attacks. I want, so badly, to be able to go all the way up to physics. I want to understand the universe. I want to be able to contribute to SOMETHING in a field that focus on getting mankind to the stars.

    • @davidk1308
      @davidk1308 Год назад

      I struggled with math as well for the longest time. I don't think there was any one thing that helped me finally wrap my head around it, but I watched a lot of different videos explaining the concepts and solving problems, like from khan academy and organic chemistry tutor, and even jumped the gun by getting pre-calc for dummies, which also helped introduce me to more advanced versions of functions and graphing.
      When I got into community college, I got placed into intermediate algebra (which I suppose would be algebra 2 in this case), and I was thankfully able to pass pretty well.
      I can definitely emphasize with your last statement. I'm looking to go into aerospace so I can work in the spaceflight industry myself, since its been a dream of mine for the longest time. If I had any advice, try to get into a study group, tutoring session, or go to office hours with people/professors willing to help walk you through algebra concepts, and as it starts to make sense, do plenty of practice problems to get those to stick.
      Watching videos on your own can also help explain things if it doesn't click the first time,.I'll admit, while channels like mathantics are geared for middle/high schoolers, the simpler examples and explanations really helped me before I got into college. Good luck though, I hope it works out for you!

    2:45 a more effective method is to do arithmetic in your head
    This is easy
    2x+4=16
    X=6
    Because
    2 times 6 is twelve
    12+4=16

      This is the way. Why over-complicate it? I've noticed a lot of mathematicians say that higher math teaches you logic and higher reasoning skills, but logic like Occam's Razor (the simplest answer is often the correct one) is thrown out the window.

    Taking AP calc. I will not stress enough guys that this is just as important as the calculus. 90% of problems you face the in calc really only use calc about 30 % of the problem the rest is usually algebra. So if you plan on doing that later on please don't let go of your algebra.

    8th Grade Algebra 1! I got an A! First time I continuously got A's. I got a 76 because I took the quiz when I transferred in the middle of the second week because of a zone issue. Hadn't gone to school!!! Basically all you need to pass this class and what to do is.... 1. Find a smart friend who is able to have enough patience to explain to you 2. If you actually understand the concept and feel you can do it then your good, but if you find yourself still unknowing of what the hell is in front of your eyes then ask your friend or teacher to re-teach/explain again. You don't want to not ask because then you are jut gonna be a bum in a firing rage at target practice. 3. Go to tutoring! It's really not that bad! Just ask your teacher with some help...It will feel awkward, but then it's just natural because it's better for them to understand you're not understanding than to think you just don't care. 4. Photomath usually works for College Board, but if you don't understand the problem than use it. Afterwards, look at your notes to see how you can get to that answer! 5. For me, notes really did not work, AT ALLL!! It really only felt like I was just looking at a bit of gibberish, so ask for help! You'll NEED IT!
