Was a barista for a time and had that same experience of seeing people wait outside the cafe before it opened (at like 5:30am), sometimes even when it was raining. It's a mostly chill time, even if you're in the midst of rush it can go relatively smoothly if you have enough stock/staff to accommodate. The hard part is dealing with entitled customers, bonus that if you get a bunch of them back to back during rush. I strongly believe that I learned more about life in 6 months of managing a cafe than I did in 4 years of college. Everybody should experience working this type of job at some point in their lives. You have my respect fellow barista!

thanks for sharing your experience! i’m a current college student and just got hired at starbucks yesterday :) and i chose to go for starbucks because i wanted to gain skills and experiences and grow as a person. not to mention, i also have social anxiety and previously was quite bad at social interaction, so i want this job to push me to practice and help with my anxiety. it will be interesting dealing with entitled customers and i just feel like it will help me become stronger and more vocal. your comment assures me that i will definitely gain a lot from my new job!!

Just started watching this barista videos and it’s so insightful. From barista to barista, your ethic should be standard in our industry. I used to be a chef before I changed for the better hours (I wake up 4-5am normally anyway) and because during my patisserie cert I was introduced to coffee making, honestly its just as busy as a kitchen without the unnecessary stress and heat.

Preparing the milk, coffee bean, and the machine, then actually brewing the coffee, then test tasting the coffee to make sure they are good enough , then serving customers, then getting money from customers. But I think the most satisfying moment is when you are able to see your customers put a smile on their faces when they are enjoying the coffee you make. Hard work pays back. With that kind of space, I would say you have to be extra careful on the latte art because a slight bump and it's all gone 😂😂 but then I realised it's a take away cafe, so lucky you 😜😜😉

This looks exhausting. I don't understand how people call this video relaxing. Can you imagine keeping up this hectic workflow for hours on end?? We only saw 20 minutes! You should get paid more for this amount of work.

I actually enjoy that kind of workflow. Time just passes faster that way for me and I like the customer interaction :)
If I have a job with a lot of downtime I just constantly check the clock and wait for my shift to end, but if I got something to do all the time an 8 hour shift can feel like 5

Tbh low key now I wanna be a batista. I've always been told I'm great with customers working in sales.but I hate how id get close to customers and my boss would want me yo push a credit card. Making coffee id be able to just enjoy talking Making coffee and just sell them a coffee nothing else.
