  • Alex Smith, NFL quarterback, U alumnus and member of college football's original BCS-busting team, is not your typical jock. And on Thursday night, he did not give your typical commencement address.
Here's Alex Smith's advice to the Class of 2014:
    1) Identify your weaknesses
    2) Embrace the new
    3) Let go of what you can't control

We live in an age that doesn't value humility or grace. Alex Smith has both in spades. Great speech, great QB, great man. Respect.

Being one of those people who boo'd Alex at his own home game, made me respect him even more with the way he composed himself and dealt with it. He became one of my favorite players and was replaced out of nowhere. I'm glad he was able to move onto better things, and is constantly bettering himself. Definitely a great role model.

      'Not your typical jock.'
I get what you're trying to say here, but it seems a little awkward that an institute of higher learning is using the ole 'jock' stereotype.

melhexx yeah you're definitely a niner fan though, supporting the guy who's choked 3 straight years

I was a fan of players that were not named alex smith based on the lack of performance by the quarterback who consistently was fucking up. It is what it is. wish him the best but not in a niners uniform.

How many years have we watched alex smith choke? Benched for players like troy smith who don't even play in the league anymore. And kansas city chief team? Kaepernick was still in the playoffs while alex was where? I will take kaepernick regardless. Even though im tired of him throwing to crabtree with the game on the line.

Always believe and knew he'll be a beast at QB. Sad day when we got rid of him. Biggest mistake because we would still be contending every year.
