btw how is the language barrier , did u take any prerequisite courses to learn japanese ?

i learned how to read and write katakana and hiragana before going to tokyo :))
as for the language barrier, some Japanese locals knew how to speak a bit of english (at least in tokyo, but I'm unsure in other prefectures)
With conversing in Japanese, at first I only knew some basics but I eventually learned as I go
I also took a beginner course in Japanese in the university there hope this helps :D
