The Truth Behind Ozempic Face (Wegovy) | Doctor Explains

- In this video, I will share with you the science behind these “new miracle drugs” - Ozempic and Wegovy and whether you can get an unusual appearence called 'Ozempic Face'. These are both a drug called semaglutide, and work by mimicking the effects of a hormone called (GLP-1) in the body, which helps to regulate blood sugar levels and aids in weight loss.
Ozempic was given to Diabetes patients, and after reports of considerable weight loss, the same laboratory created Wegovy, the same medication but a version made for non-diabetes to lose weight. People taking Ozempic/ Wegovy have reported these Unusual symptoms:
- A hollowed-out appearance on their face
- More wrinkles and lines across, making them look older
- Loose and saggy skin
And we hear all over the media the so-called “ozempic face”. However, its more of a side effect of losing weight quickly, here is why...
When we lose weight, we start to lose the stores of fat around the body (the classic belly fat), but we also lose fat around organs and across our face. If the weight loss occurs very quickly, our skin may not have enough time to adjust to the changes in our body, causing loose, sagging skin, especially in areas where there was a lot of fat or muscle mass before the weight loss. This would occur to anyone going to a sudden loss of weight and is not linked to a specific side effect of a drug.

Wait, you mean the face changes and thins out when you lose weight!?!?!? No shit. 🙄
shock horror!
😂
There is a difference between losing excessive protein or excessive fat. The problem is that with Ozempic you lose more muscle than for example with fasting. Losing weight with Ozempic will definitely cause saggy skin and visible muscle loss. Losing weight with water fasting will have non of those effects because the body removes the excess tissue (skin) by turning on autophagy and the muscle loss is negligible as in a ketogenic state fat is the primary fuel not protein.
@@evi7039 only if you dont take enough protein which also happens when you lose weight with out it. sooooo this isnt the big gotcha you think it is
😂😂😂. Agree 👍. Lost 70 lbs over 3 years, intermittent fasting, as well as PRESCRIBED metformin [pill a day] . And wow , my face looks thinner and less full. I am absolutely 💯 shocked 😲. 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
I've been taking ozempic for almost 6 weeks now starting with the lowest dose of 0.25 for 4 weeks and I am in my 2nd week of 0.5mg. I've lost 5 pounds, no side effects, feeling great. No rapid weight loss and my face didn't change. Problem is people who want fast result and start with high dose, complaining of nausea, constipation, stomach pain, rapid weight loss with ozempic face. People should get educated before using prescription drugs.
You're taking it for weight loss? No offense but that's selfish. You're causing the price to skyrocket for the ones who truly need it. There's other ways to lose weight.
People should get educated before using Rx's instead of doing it the right, motivated way. ❤
@@TheINFJChannel Oh Please. There is NO shortage, they just can't make the injectors fast enough. I am taking it for weight loss and I can get a thousand pounds of it for cheap if I want the pill or the vials and I get my own needles on Amazon. The ones causing the prices to skyrocket are the corrupt pharma so blame them.

@@TheINFJChannel people who suffer from obesity and have joint pain, high heart rate or other issues related with obesity, don't truly need it? What a selfish way of thinking....
Just eat healthy you don’t need no man made drug
I still don't see any pictures of ozempic face.
I saw it on ig it's a little scary
I lost 60 pounds fast on intermittent fasting, my face looks different, what a shock . Lmfao
I was put on this medication for diabetes and heart issues doctor also said it can have a side effect of helping me lose weight put on by Hypothyroidism PCOS and diabetes. However the side effects are no joke I can't eat a normal meal just tiny bits regardless of what and it hard to keep hydrated bc the stomach empties slowly this is NOT AN EASY FIX
Wow, so maybe it's dehydration that's causing the ozempic face
wow…. so are u struggling with constipation?
In addition to strength training, healthy diet and slower weightloss, how can you help prevent excess skin when starting a weightloss journey at 50+? Would it help to up collagen intake, protein and water, too? Or is it a losing battle?
Ozempies got me stoooned
Interesting video. When is coming to uk
It’s had its approval but formal pathways need to be set up. Wegovy likely to be prescribed by specialist weight loss centres.
Mine is making my face glow
Good to hear, not everyone one will have problems with it. :)
Your pretty. Ed enjoy your day
I lost about 70 lbs over a year, it was intermittent fasting and prescribed metformin and cut down on sugar. My face is glowing 😊😊😊😊😊😊
This problem doesn't only apply to ozempic. When I started insulin my face started to change, sunken in cheeks flabby neck, unusual aging. 500 blood sugar is better than numerous side effects insulin causes. Diet and exercise is the only cure for diabetes.
These big bright flashes in between cuts on this video really hurt my eyes. 😖
Isn’t it norms, to have gaunt face when you drop a lot of weight? Happened to me, until I gained a small amoun back then reconstituted gained muscle and lost fat at same time. Back to my normal loss weight
It's different, losing weight normally vs losing weight for abusing Ozempic will be different.
That would be true for any dramatic weight loss.
I wish you were my doctor :) you seem lovely!
The head/face appears longer as well ..
Thank you for the video and explanation. There is a reality television star who has a large forehead that I believe is fat if I understand correctly. In that instance, does the fat get redistributed, and avoid the loose skin? I'm asking because I'm 44yo and have always had full aka "chipmunk" cheeks, despite my BMI. I'd like to avoid any sagging or loose skin. I'm seeing a physician in a few weeks to discuss Ozempic for me.
I was told I had chipmunk cheeks at 22. I'm 5"6 and weighed 115 and less then. Then suddenly I had cheek bones in my 30s. My very obese Aunt is so excited to "always look young" because she's always weighed 400 pounds.
Can't we just be healthy, look our age? At 44, we sag, it's gravity. If your weight loss is more gradual, I don't think there's as much saggy skin, however.
@amylynnhunt55 Good point. I'm fine with aging, but hearing about facial changes, I was a bit nervous. When meeting with the MD, we discussed gradual weight-loss and dietary habits to lose gradually. I'm still on the fence and doing some research about starting ozempic.
Is it beneficial for PCOS I’m struggling with the weight loss issue but it’s stuck and I heard that Ozempic is very beneficial for PCOS patients whos weight is stuck , please guide .
I'm not a doctor but I do believe these meds are for PCOS, insulin resistant people that just can't lose weight no matter how hard they try.
You are right. It really works for pcos
Yes it helps PCOS
Get this face if lose weight period
Yah, it's gila monster venom. It's a poision.
I have seen this myself. The person is now very slim but looks 10 years older
I got depressed on ozempic and on Wegovy I lost libido
Where did you buy it from?
Where did u buy it from
Peace out my …
It’s called rapid weight loss to quick
Rapid = quick
They're synonyms.
Meth helps ya lose weight very easily to and has some side effects.
Eat right, hike, work out..... Why take the easy way out all the time? I cant respect that. I respect genuine motivation and dedication, not pill popping. Priorities, people!!!!!
Exercise and healthy eating are so beneficial for mental health too. There are meds that take the place of exercise and a healthy diet both physically and mentally, and too many people opt for the pharma option over the natural healthy lifestyle option, despite the many negative side effects and the fact that lifestyle changes are actually way more beneficial. I used to tell everyone that weight loss is a cure for type 2 diabetes, but pharma can't make money off of someone just losing a little weight, so a lot of people don't know that. Pharma went and made a liar out of me.
Some, like the average construction working has nothing left in the tank at the end of the day and need a boost to help
I wonder if losing 30 to 40 pounds would cause this ?
Yes depending on where your fat is deposited. If your weight loss is slower, you should be fine.
@@bate01071 Thank you my weight loss has been slow so that is great lol
Agreed
I dont get why speed of weight loss makes any difference. Is there any evidence of that? I think if you lose 100 pounds in a year or 5 years the ampunt of sagging at the end would be the same. Its just people notice more if its quick.
I'm 28, non diabetic and my endo is recommending I use ozempic my BMI is 30.15; I have great skin and I'm extremely worried abt getting saggy skin, what are my options?
Do weight lifting & take collagen
@@minniemvand fasting possibly?
You don't need drugs to lose weight. Just cut out processed foods, white carbs, sugars and do some exercise. Eat lots of vegetables, seafood, and excellent quality meat in moderation. Top up with some supplements if needed. Losing too much weight and quickly will cause anyone's face to look drawn. Do some facial exercises every day to build muscles/tone your face. People don't do this, but our ancestors understood this. There is a culture of taking a pill for everything in the west, you need to deal with the source not the symptom.
.Lose and saggy skin comes with weight loss, with or without Ozempic.
With all due respect, I've seen several people get Ozimpic Face (inluding my sister, a close cousin, and 3 co-workers) and I swear, it's NOT like you'd see with normal, fast, weight loss (and the weight loss I'm seeing isn't even that fast!). It's absolutely shocking! I believe it's going to be discovered that the drug itself is causing severe changes in the collagen, fat and elasticity of the skin, most noticeably (or even, most focused on) the face. I'm talking, gray, sagging, old person skin. It (seriously) looks like someone went through theatrical makeup to drastically change their age, and I'm not kidding!! I wouldn't touch that stuff. It's too new, and there are no long term studies yet. Don't be a lab rat! People are always looking for a magic pill, but it ALWAYS comes down to eating right (with less carbs and fats), and exercising more. Calories in vs. Calories out.
Weight loss is not that simple for people. In my opinion ozempic represses your appetite which is like a dream but I definitely agree with you ozempic face is not the same as regular weight loss face.
What you've said is true. The changes in people's faces are not the same as quick weight loss with diet and exercise. I lost a lot of weight over a 6-week period and my face slimmed down some but I didn't not look like I had aged 10-15 years. Ozempic is a relatively new drug with long-term side effects that are unknown. I discouraged my family and friends from taking it, I tell them to wait at least another 10 years before they do instead of being guinea pigs.
Absolutely!
It's amazing how easy it is for you guys to believe things based on anecdotal evidence lol
@@QTEEP -I based my opinion in on what I can see with my own eyes. I was noticing this in friends and family, way before I ever heard that others were noticing, or that it had a name and appears to be a common side effect. If you want to be a lab rat and take the Magic Juice (fantasy) for weight loss (or the ones for certain illness prevention), go right ahead! - your body, your health, your choice, and your life should you choose to roll the dice. Just remember that you're taking a risk that may not be worth it, and the long term studies are usually 10-15 years, so the damage will be done, before they pull it from the shelves. The fact of the matter is, there's no magic potion. As with everything in life, success depends on a goal, determination, and hard work. Take care! ❤️
Just weight loss
i know the weight loss is visible everywhere. but those faces looking really really bad to be honest
As a doctor, I'd think you would retire the phrase "ozempic face". It's perpetuating the false narrative that this drug causes this effect when it is simply from the rapid weight loss. Many people could and are benefiting from Semaglutide. "Ozempic face" is just a buzz word.
Literally that's the whole point of the video, to make people who search 'ozempic face' be aware that it related to fast wt loss
Also as a doctor the fact that nothing ever gets cured should make you reconsider your life choices. You all are absolutely shameful.
I am losing 1.5 pounds a week with Wegovy .. is it a rapid weight loss ?
How about Taco Neck?!
@@MeMe-jq3ky😂
To blame the drug and not realize that it's rapid weight loss, it's crazy to me! You lose it so fast your body doesn't even have time to recover and shrink back slowly like it needs to.
It's the side effect for celebrities taking it with having diabetes.
Drugs drugs and more drugs. Smh
It’s obviously muscle loss, not fat loss. There are much smarter, healthier, and safer ways to lose weight and NOT lose muscle.
How much is Ozempic paying you?
That’s more of a problem with Caucasian ppl. My face looks beautiful
Cope harder, people.
Had to take a shot a Elon?
