Exactly. And as you'd know well as well, Sung was great not only in 500m but also in any other events from 1000m to relay. He was possibly the only good all-rounder in short track. Such a great loss for Korea to have him retired so early. I know there have been many good sprinters in short track history, but just evaluating the talent (and I know some/many people will disagree), Sung was the best 500m specialist for me.

Sung is one of the unluckiest skaters I've ever seen. His ability as skater is undoubtable, but couldn't win as many medals as he should have. Too bad he retired during the spring. I hope he comes back, get into the olympics 2014, and achieve what he couldn't in this one.

I totally agree with you. Koreans know, but for other countrymen.. Sung Si-Bak is by far the best 500m skater represented South Korea. Of course Chae Ji-Hoon back in 1992 won a gold for South Korea, but his career didn't last long. from 2004-2011 most of the gold in the 500m was won by Sung Si-Bak and he also held onto the world record for 3 years (for a 500m.. that's a long time comparing to 1500/1000/3000/5000) In the 1500m because of Lee Ho-Suk, he lost medal. 1000m and 500m.. omg...

At an early age of (early 20's), Sung retires in 2011 and doesn't show up in the World Cup season 2011-2012. I don't know about other countries, but in Korea, once the athlete officially retires.. I don't think I've seen them come back for another season. If Sung Si-Bak comes back for Sochi 2014, it'll be like a New Hope for South Korea in the 500m. Otherwise we'll have to depend on Kwak Yun-Gy and Lee Ho-Suk.
