    Blows my mind how fast you’re getting these videos out doing everything yourself! Great video as well. Might be doing some mitered splines now that I see how easy they are when done right!

    I love this. I watched this about a month ago, and not too long after, my dog passed away. Immediately I thought of this video so now I'm in the process of making my own version, based on this video, for his ashes. Thank you for the inspiration!

      Sorry to hear about your dog. I have a picture of my two dogs on my workshop wall. They are both gone 2 years now, you would miss them. I'm glad the video helped! !

    Great project! I’m going to copy this and I had a thought ... to make the splined dovetails evenly spaced, I’m going to do the top and bottom splines, and after the top and bottom of the box are jointed, I will then center the 3rd dovetail spline between the others. Thanks for the inspiration!

      I determine where I will be cutting off the lid before I do the splines and add a kerf thickness between those splines.

    One of the best channels on youtube right here. Your planing is so smooth. Wow. I'm going for that technique. Hope you have a planing and sharpening video because yours is the smoothest technique I've seen and mine is really bad but I have progressed.Sort of. Very new to hand planers. i did manage to get a straight edge on a board but pretty sure I've dulled the blade trying. lol. Hope you and yours are safe as well brother. Thank you for the knowledge, video, the encouragement, and the best wishes.

    Very nice job on the box, a trick when adding a profile to the edge is to start the cut at the end grain side, doing this you'll eliminate your chipout as you go around the project, still best to do it with a sacrificial board or on a shooting board, keeping the grain direction the same through the project can eliminate it to a degree if the wood has grain direction consistency... Your box was mitered so my tip doesn't really count here.

      Things I learn from Marc Spagnuolo and Rob Cosman on RUclips, Marc just had a tip video for panel gluing it was great, I've been watching woodworking channels so long I usually get nothing new from tip videos but I watch them just so they're embedded in my memory when I'm in the shop.

    Hi john love the box . Have u ever thought about making anything out of plywood I know it won’t be the highest quality of wood but if you paint it or put a nice finish on it

    Good Honest work with an excellent result. A table saw would have been better to the cut the top off (no flex on the blade).
    Couldn't help notice the Strat body on the wall, is it going to be a future project? Thanks for the video.

    • @JohnMcGrathManInShed

      I have made a similar Strat to the one on the wall that body is just a decoration for now.

    Just a thought , you planed the edges of the box after band sawing it, could you not have set the fence on the router so the router just took a minimum cut, and then if needed a mere shaving of the lid, that way the edges would have been parallel,

    great looking box, nice work. I see you remembered to remove the fence on the chop saw cutting your 45's, I didn't :(

  • @stevesiefken6432
    @stevesiefken6432 4 года назад +1

    Is there any reason you didn’t use the table saw to cut the lid off? I get that the bandsaw takes one pass while the table saw would take four, but is there any other reason? Is it the wider kerf on the table saw?
