The CHIKYU was in port at Hachinohe, Aomori, with 48 visiting elementary school students aboard when the Great East Japan Earthquake struck. The resulting tsunami was over 8 meters high and engulfed her in a swirling torrent of muddy, debris-laden water. Fortunately, all on board escaped uninjured and damage to the hull was kept to a minimum.

Location: Kaigan Kawaragi, Hachinohe City.
It must be absolutely terrifying to be on a structure that large and still watch the tsunami have it's way with it. Insane!
@@VagismirPukin1 I dig your style, dude. ^^
Wud be a thrill mate
Finally! Someone I can understand! Scary though, "We're in trouble, we're in big trouble". I wish I knew how that ship made out in the end.
There’s about six videos recorded by the same man but they’re posted by numbers I believe instead of titles.
6:47 Now, that -- that right there -- is a sound you really don't want to hear when you're aboard a ship.
That is the anchor chain making that noise.
Glad the people were safe there
The Scots narration is phenomenal
It's hard to imagine that this is a black tsunami, seeing the fact that the seabed is being scraped the strong force of the tsunami itself, and this is even more evident when it happened at Kesennuma City, Miyagi that caused mass destruction within the city itself.
The water wasn’t black everywhere but if you were in or near an industrialized or a big city chances are 100 percent that the tsunami would be loaded with sewage, heavy metals and other pollutants which accumulate on the sea floor & you know a tsunami’s energy extends to the seabed. Shitty deal.
That’s some racist BS my guy!
@@TonyBMW I'm just spouting facts about how the colour of the tsunami water look like when it came in some of certain cities because of the dirt and smudge scraped underneath the seabed. I'm not being racist and BS. I should've clarified it in the first place.
@@RealGilbertGan You’re good dude 👍
I was just trying to be funny and get some laughs .
@@TonyBMW oh, because I feel troubled about your reply right there, mate
Video constantly moving is hard to watch. But still crazy video.
If you are ever caught up in a major disater, maybe you can show nerves of steel and take perfect video.
@@jamiebraswell5520 If standing on a ship like this, i probably would. But okay, i didn't mean to be negative on this one.
A decade later, when he says "We're in trouble... We're in big trouble!" I still get chills.
@@Chris.Davies Except they aren't.
@@Chris.Davies No they aren’t. Many ships were overturned, or rammed into bridges, went over walls and capsized. This crew was in the right place. Many others weren’t so lucky.
The ocean.
Reclaims whatever it wants, whenever it wants.
Такую махину, как океан, ничего не может сдержать...😨☝️
I keep hearing the phrase,"Mens hearts failing them from fear".
the thought of watching the ocean come in and not knowing if it going to stop or keep coming must be a frighting feeling😬.... just standing there watching it raise
Good God that water got high. Omigod.
Had to be terrifying!
Calm, Scottish voices!
It must be black day in Japan God is punishment Japan
will you make more videos?
There’s about 6 videos of this event on RUclips. If I find them I’ll post the links here. I’ve seen them all.
Probably the safest place to be on a ship that big
Did the ship make it OK?

Should have started the engines and manoeuvred to the widest area
You can't maneuver anywhere during a tsunami can you????.... You go where the water goes and that's the end of it.... You've seen the boats trying to fight it but it doesn't matter
@@pagejustin5572 it could have moved forward, but too many unknowns. Some of the faster boats motored to safety in other clips, but this one would be contained by its inertia, but if it moved forward a bit and dropped anchors it might have avoid scraping on the concrete.
That's what I was thinking. If you put the bow into the flow and pushed against it with the engine you might be ok. The trouble is, by the time you've realised what's going on you've no time to manouvre into position and by then the water is hitting the ship beam on and you've got no control. I don't even know what happens to the mooring ropes I guess they just snap.
It takes over a hour to start the engines on a boat that size then it's not very maneuverable in port much less in such a current
@@terryken12 that would explain why they weren’t running around trying to do something about the situation.
Video ADHD. Why?
cameranya tidak jelas.. 👎
We Americans helped greatly with recovery. We and Japan should be the model of bad decisions and forgiveness. Why is war still a thing in 2022?
Well considering you Americans have been occupying Japan since 1945 yall shud be helping with recovery 😂😕
You obviously Do not know your history Bud. The US has not occupied Japan in more than 70 years. The Japanese had been independent for God knows how long where have you been
