This is what I HATE about Disney right now. They think they can turn a perfectly good cartoon into a 'good' live action movie when 9 times out of 10, they end up looking BAD. I;'m sorry, but if you don't want me to do animation for you, I'll do it for someone else.

The characters that Sabrina Carpenter and Sofia Carson played were so one-dimensional compared to Elisabeth Shue. And the kids that were cast seemed to have no distinctive personality that could have been good material for the film.

I think they should have cast a sliiiiiightly older person. KP in the show is 17. This girl could pass for 12.

PeachBerryGlitch! KP doesn’t turn 17 until later in the show. She’s 15 at the start of the show. That still doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have casted someone older since Tom Holland still plays a 16 year old in the MCU despite being a 23 year old in real life.
They should’ve casted someone who was older. The actress they cast isn’t talented enough to play this role. That isn’t to say there aren’t good actors around that age(look at the Stranger Things kids) but they are rather hard to come by.
They should've casted someone similar to Kim. Even though she was 15 she looked older and was more mature. There are alot of 15 year olds who look older and more mature.

Kim was jealous and insecure multiple times in the series. After getting used to Felix being in a wheelchair, the next episode had her jealous that Ron and him were spending so much time together. Plus she was jealous of the girl from the ninja school thinking she was dating Ron.

There is literally an episode of the show where Kim actually does come to terms with having to admit someone was better than her at something: she voted for Bonnie as the cheer captain over herself because Bonnie actually did all the things a cheer captain should do while Kim was too preoccupied with stopping Duff Killigan. WE ALREADY HAD THIS PLOT AND KIM NEVER WHINED ABOUT IT, WHAT THE HELL. YES THIS MOVIE MADE ME SO ANGRY I WENT BACK AND WATCHED THE SHOW FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 15 YEARS.

Edit: I get that in the series, everyone knows she’s a spy, I guess I just find it a bit weird that she’s a spy (someone who is to lay low and do everything secret) and everyone knows who she is. It’s mainly a minor nitpick. Great show but poor movie.

This was freeing to hear too, I kinda needed this ✨💫
My biggest issue with this movie (and I will state that I haven't watched it myself, I've only seen commentary and clips about it), is how they ruined Kim's character. They managed to [kinda] keep Ron's goofy and clumsy charisma, but they made Kim so...ugh. In the series, she's humble and kind and, while being aware that she's very capable, she doesn't let things go to her head. She's very grounded and smart while maintaining that badassery and ability. In the movie, she comes off as full of herself/vain (see "I've never met someone who's better than me"), annoying, and over the top (see unnecessary flips and crap to collect the papers). I would say childish as well, but she's supposed to be 13-14 here, so.. that argument only holds so much.
What makes it even worse is that this was written by THE ORIGINAL CREATORS of the cartoon. It feels like an insult to their own work. And retconning the original back story for Ron and Rufus makes me so fucking angry.
Maybe it would've worked better as a 2D reboot instead of a live action, but the story would still need a LOT of work.
What actually bothers me the most is tha Ron is not only goofy, he is actually and literally useless after the first 5 minutes. He literally doesn't involve nor even try to do anything, just watches.. And also, of course, they screw Kim's attitude as well.
Thank you. I agree, this Kim is not who I grew up with. Not to mention her mother and grandmother having a legacy of crime fighting. Well maybe I can believe the grandmother, but the mom was more of a scientist not a crime fighter

Yeah. I recall every character in cartoon had their own expertise and roles and wouldn't medle in the others much or at all. And when circumstantialy forced to follow Kim, they would struggle in some way, which would elevate Kim and even Ron for being able to keep up with her, even though he messes up a lot.
This is why its best to leave the decisions out of the hands of the original creators because 2d animation is not always going to translate well into live action 3d.

I think they tried to do the thing where they attempt and fail to be progressive by putting the female in the traditionally made sport instead of the traditionally female 'side line' role.
Of course this fails, because Kim wasn't a cheerleader because it was the only option available to her, she genuinely loved her hobby, and the new hobby suits her less because it doesn't blend with her fighting as much. And it's actually anti-progressive in a way, because looking at what some cheerleaders put themselves through, it looks much more taxing than kicking a football; so Kim was more badass as the cheerleader

In cartoon version it allows for these crazy stunts a lot more and in better ways, but even the cartoon version wasn't this ridiculous with the flips. She acted like that spinning in midair was so damn essential to defeating Shego

yah ron's hair is terrible and kims not much better they dont really look anything like their characters and in this she's almost as goofy as ron and she's supposed to look kinda tomboy-e less make up but yet still be a cool cheerleader which is how she learns the moves for being a super hero in the first place not training with her mom and grandma in the show they dont even know she's a hero. Bonny and shego are supposed to be white not of some asian decent and she's usually on time for class shes an A student. They made athena a character whos not even in the show the only real capable fighter and ron doesnt meet rufus in a sewer he buys him at a store because his parents are alergic to animals with fur and he's cooler to animate then something that needs to stay in a tank. Also draken is supposed to be way way bluer and shego's outfit looks like she keeps walking in the dark or something. Wade is also way more mature in the tv show non animated remakes are usually bad and this and Avatar last airbender tottally prove it.

Basically like every single god damn remake of famous tv shows. Think of the og 1977 Transformers, a show about robots from a different planet who need to get used to earth. Wasn't a big part of the original show that Kim always turned the tables on Alpha Bitch, Bonnie, and was really more successful and popular? Kim was head cheerleader, not Bonnie. This went with the all the teen movie cliches, which the original show tended to avoid or at least turn around.
yeah I paused the movie after hearing that Kim wasn't going to end up as head cheer leader like in the show.
This movie had a vintage style to it and they want to upgrade it with technology and bs
ariel warner Maybe the writers wanted to be less cliched or more with the times. There is the stereotype associated with cheerleaders, but the original show always disproved it with Kim and it was a way to use her athletic ability in her school life.
Rhino Thunder The one where Chris Evans had a banana in his butt and the foreign exchange student Areola always walked around naked with no one remarking about it and her accent changing every scene she was in. The prom has a priceless line where someone comments on everyone suddenly being professional dancers.
These kinds of films need to be very well written. The slew of parody films by Seltzer and Friedberg got so hung up on the contemporary pop culture references used for the parody that it’s a genre no one takes any notice of any more.

TBH in original high school WAS her biggest challenge too.
She was popular, but she did not had a posse or hanged out with many people. She spent a considerable amount of time on crimefighting, to the point where fighting crime was MUCH EASIER for her in comparison to the ordinary high school girl problems.
Most of the people admired her, but were not close friends, because they could not quite relate to her. Guys, aside from the few exceptions (Josh, Felix and Brick), were simply intimidated by her and kept their distance. She complained in the movie that she weirded guys out and nobody tried to date her on her own (she pursued Josh, who was more of the exception and seemed very chill, the pairing with Brick was Ron's made-up story for a newspaper, and Brick was both strong and stupid).
Contrast that with Bonnie, who always had a posse and was the center of attraction.
But it was shown much more realistically in the original.

@@jcl418 Actually...in the late 90s/early 2000s, Disney Channek movies were gems. They used unknown kid actors and touched very deep topics like racism, sexism and special needs children.
@@Delroy61 the 90s and early 2000s were back when Disney had balls. Now we the deepest topic they've done is when that one character on Andi Mack came out of the closet. Don't get me wrong that was good and kids should see things like that but that doesn't explain why the movies suck now.

I always liked how Shego was like a polar opposite especially in appearance to Kim. That gave them great chemistry in the cartoon but getting an older actress in weird make up and then not even trying to write her as she's supposed to be is off putting.

The script is the issue, not the casting. Ron is the one I'm really disappointed in, mostly because of the lack of comedic timing, but the rest were fine.
Wonder if they'll make a sequal. It might not happen as this film was the lowest viewed disney channel movie of the last decade
