The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I was Virginia's last manager. She'd be so thrilled to have this clip on RUclips!
Great!
Beautiful woman!!!
A unique talent!!! I just became aware of her. I may be obsessed. More O' Brien please!!!
check out her great MGM films @@fractionstein
That’s so awesome I loved her in the Harvey girls
You have to know the work of Virginia O'Brien to appreciate her. What a great voice and i wish she made more records than she did!
it’s fascinating how the comment section is completely missing the point that this is a comedy number and this was Virginia’s gimmick since the 1940s, which the audiences loved at the time
As her great grand daughter it’s extremely disappointing to see people running their mouths over what they don’t understand.
My friend knew her personally when she was older. He explained that she did the wooden poker face on purpose when she sang.
I saw “ Thousands Cheerd’ on TMC a few years ago and became an instant fan of Virginia. She’s marvelous.
For you trivia buffs, that is Alan O'Day supporting on keyboards. He had a huge hit in 1977 with "Undercover Angel".
I loved Virginia in the MGM musicals she appeared and was spotlighted in, including “The Harvey Girls”! ❤😂
The singer has very extravagant gestures, they immediately attract attention. A beautiful woman, 👌 with a strong voice, the outfit suits her very well.👍💚
I have just discovered her and I'm in love! RIP beautiful wonderful lady Virginia.
Her deadpan, expressionless style was her 'shtick' in 40s musicals. She was impersonated in the Our Gang short "Calling All Kids".
This may not have been one of her best, but she did some really good material. An underrated talent.
This is a comedy version but "Ramona" is a beautiful song when done normally. The Bachelors did a fantastic version of Ramona and Gene Austin's hit recording from 1927 was pretty good too. This is an unusual appearance to see in a color episode considering that Virginia O'Brien was popular for doing deadpan comedy numbers like this in 1940's movies. They did have a lot of former Hollywood stars on Hollywood Palace around this time though. I would love to see Jerry Vale on this episode sing, "Have You Looked into Your Heart" and "If It Isn't in Your Heart". I have read that Jerry performed the former song on an earlier Sullivan show in the same year and it brought about his comeback selling a lot of records right after the performance. I've never seen either performance, but it's a great song.
My favorite movie of hers was the Harvey Girls.
The same here. I wish she didn't have to leave due to her pregnancy.
wonderful!
Haha, she's amazing!:D
I am the first ramona that hears it 🤣🤣🤣
😄
LOLOLOL! RAMONA!
Harmony Metoer bass - wish there was much much more Virginia O'Brien around.
Blue daimonds ramona is still the best
The Big Store
Love that gal
She was born a year after my mom
Армстронга не перепеть...
Wife of the first video Superman..Kirk Alyn
gads...
What is she doing with her hands?
Pienso que imita los movimientos de una muñeca.
Obviously "her thing"
Her performance dipshit
???
What the heck did I just watch? Thumbs down.
You've got zero sense of humor
She was a comic actress in movies in the 40s. If you look for her video of "Say That We're Sweethearts Again" from the 40s, you should be able to find it.
@@bobtaylor170 Thanks for sharing
@@joehill8014, yeah, I know, much better to remain ignorant and trashy.
Something you don’t understand, a feeling I’m sure you’re used to by now
Couldn't anyone dissuade her from doing this? Yikes!
Not anymore than we could dissuade you from living unfortunately

VIRGINIA O'BRIEN, THE ORIGINAL CHER!
Virginia Lee O'Brien (April 18, 1919 - January 16, 2001) was an American actress, singer, and radio personality known for her comedic singing roles in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musicals of the 1940s. O'Brien was a registered Republican and was supportive of Dwight Eisenhower's campaign during the 1952 presidential election. She also adhered to Catholicism. This explains the performance.
That's such a dumb thing to say.
