- Legendary sailor Lin Pardey once called this common activity the Curse of Cruising. Can you guess what it is?
Is it seasickness?
Is it Piracy or crime?
Is it the huge amounts of maintenance that boats require?
No it’s LAUNDRY

When Isa smiles, my heart melts.
Totally! She is such a sweet baby! 👶👶👶💙💙💙
Agreed, such a darn cutie patootie ❤️😍😀💐
While Jordan was talking about the washing machine, Isabella was suckling. I was constantly shifting attention to her, until I was checking on her and shifting attention to Jordan. Did she eat her full? Is she happy? Is she sitting well? Is she smiling? Jordan fell on a distant second.
100%
Who would have ever thought watching the installation of a frickin' washing machine would be so much fun? Great story, Jordan! What a lovely family. And Isa? She's gonna be a star!
Jordan, as a way of finishing the space, make a folding grate/door/platform that can fold down and sit just above the toilet lid but fold up to cover the washing machine. This will give you a space to put your clean clothes and not have to put them on the nasty toilet seat.
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 Dan and Kika on Uma are masters of that kind of conversion. Sadly it looks like they may be moving to a new boat..
I doubt Desiree’s head is ever nasty, clever idea regardless.
Exactly what I was thinking, great idea 💡.
Boat yoga. Never easy. But that machine is Worth it. You three deserve it.
Hilarious… “with this washing machine I see the way” 😂. You’re not lying 😏
Victories, however small!! I am impressed with Jordan's skills! I echo the reluctance in just cutting into that boat! But I also see having meet that critical needs with a child onboard!! Well done, Jordan!! You are already a great Dad!!😊😊
Advice my father in-law gave me when our eldest child was born, he said "Make sure you look after this child and treat her well because she is the one that will pick your nursing home" sound advice I think!! ... Stay Safe & Fair Winds!!
You need to put in something similar to the old fashioned cutting boards that used to be common in kitchens, it goes in and out like a drawer. Put it under the wd to act as a table to fold clothes
I suggest a door covering the new washer that opens from the top down with a hinge at the bottom. That gives you a working surface that covers the toilet.
Top tip: we used to run our (dry land) washing machine when the new baby was dozing in a stroller parked next to the machine. Seems like the gurgling and whooshing noises must remind the baby of a cozy life in the womb, so sleep comes easily!
10:00 Capitán, beware of "Gremlins", lurking around to make Life misserable. (To bad, the hose incident), just make sure you don't drill thru the Hull.🤯😁
Everytime Jordan cut’s the beautiful wood in like Noooo!!! I’m always covering my eyes going nooo don’t do it your boat is too beautiful!!!
Laundry cleaning on a boat with a machine, you all are living the high life now, yipee!! Love to see that adorable little poop factory. You are blessed and I try to keep you in my prayers, when I remember. Keep up the good work.
Life is about moving forward, and you have certainly done that. Nice skills on opening that compartment to install the washer. I wish you many hours of laundry pleasure!!
Thank you for including the frustration of drilling through the engine coolant hose! You do so many projects so perfectly, I appreciate you showing us when a project doesn't go well.
Mommy and Baby look so healthy, happy and content..Isa is blessed to have such a loving family
So impressed with your positive attitudes and the baby adaptations you are making to a 40 ft boat. Lovely baby, lovely family, lovely boat, lovely life and amazing adventures that await you all.
Awe!! Such a precious little girl!!! A washing machine is a must with a baby, lol. Good call Atticus!!
She's growing so fast, and already smiling.. Isabella's gonna be a DIY kid
And she already insists on the motion of a moving ship. That works
2 suggestions come to mind in the "not criticism but comments over a beer" department. First, grey water in the bilge has a bad way of coming alive and stinking almost as bad as blackwater. Better chemistry minds can probably explain, but somehow soap goes gangsta once it gets the nastiness out and gets set free in a warm bilge. You're going to want to think about act2 in which that drain goes overboard. Maybe off stage so the green inquisition stays away. Second is self amalgamating or rescue tape. Perfect stopgap for temporary low pressure hose leaks. Worth having a roll on board in spite of costing a little more than duct tape.
Loved the Christmas Story bunny suit reference!
So pleased to see Issa is smiling, laughing, and growing.
17:30 has to be the cutest smile ever.
Amazing how you keep finding space to put stuff! I totally felt for you when you hit the hose!! You could probably start a consultant biz “Nautical Cubby Finder!” Isabella is SO adorable. Good job mom and dad!!!
You four came a long way. No ice, no laundry, no water maker.....wow
My heart went out to you when the coolant appeared….. I’ve done a similar thing and it sucks! Congrats , love your channel
Look at that beautiful baby smile! ❤❤❤
Caution about lint and soap scum in the drain water. Not sure what the solution is but little bits of lint build over time and make a giant mess.
Such a sweet smile Isabella has. Precious. Thanks for sharing
It's nice there is a huge fiber glass tub under that thing in case it fails. Perfect fit. I screamed when you drilled through the coolant hose.
Wow, look at your Beautiful baby shine. What a Brilliant smile. She's so adorable. ❤️ Precious and Adorable. ❤️
He said Fre-gee-ley so classic. My favorite Christmas movie of all time. LOL you’ll shoot you eye out kid!!!
Great episode guys and seeing the little one smile just melts my heart. Very cool install of the most essential pice of marine equipment.
What a perfect spot to install that. Gotta say though, discharging into the bilge sounds like it's going to get really gross really fast.
Great news concerning the poop machine! Changing a newborn’s diaper is an order of magnitude easier than a crawler’s diaper. First the newborn is small enough to grab both ankles with one hand and lift. Secondly the crawler has the muscle control to kick and move while your trying to wipe it’s rear.
Transformers usually generate heat. Might want to add some vents to that cupboard. Or have door open while using the washer.
Great vid! Nice to see baby being so responsive, and Ma and Pa looking so much more relaxed! Our new washing machine at home (Samsung) plays a wee tune like that when it starts up, and Schubert's Trout Quintet when it has finished and is shutting down! Sheesh!
Your baby is beautiful. She has the most beautiful eyes and smile. I am so impressed with your skills in doing everything you do to fix absolutely everything Jordan. It's so nice to have a man around the house......
G'day mates, I have been selling washing machines for 41 years, and not much impresses me anymore, but that washer/dryer does. The trick with any washer/dryer is that the drying capacity is only 60% of the washing capacity. The combined cycle must be loaded to suit the drying and not the washing capacity.
It does always seem to be something extra happens in every project we do. Really cool add on you added
Babies first smiles and laughs are a beautiful thing
I thought it was a baby swing. A washing machine. Too cool! And OMG, she is so beautiful!!
Congratulations on the washing machine! Proven tip we found years ago is to use only POWDERED DETERGENT! The liquid stuff has polymers that stick to the sides and cause that musty mildew washing machine funk. And use just a tablespoon or two in a washer that size.
Washer discharge running down to the bilge is a bad idea. What's going to happen is all the lint and and dirt will clog your bilge pump. You're going to need a discharge filter arrangement at the least.
I would eventually love to run that discharge out thru the side of the hull and not have to dump the water into the bilge. I wonder if that's Jordan's long term plan.
Lint, dirt, soap scum build up, etc.
Jordan, I would really consider running the wash machine discharge to a shower sump with a strainer & pump. Maybe your existing shower sump has multiple inlet ports? I just don't like the thought of poopy diaper residue, soap scum, & lint coating the bilge😮
Your new washer/dryer combo looks like............"HAL", ...2001 space odyssey. Great job once again. A man does does what a man must to circumvent the situation at hand in any given moment.
Love that little washer! Great install! And Isa is just so precious with her sweet smile!
What brand is that little washing machine? I live it!
OMG that adorable smile is worth a million dollars!!!
Haha! So many conversations in early parenthood end with "that's great, you wanna change that diaper, then?" Doing great you two!
🤣
Isa is 1 beautiful baby. That smile wow. Enjoy these days they go by way to fast. My baby is now 37 & I wish I had been more in the moment than wishing he’d quit crying. He was a very colicky baby but man do I miss those baby snuggle days.
You have “Crossed the Rubicon “!! You three have come to the realization that every challenge you face can be overcome with brains, a little sweat and creativity! Go concur the rest of the world!
Love watching you adventure!
Been missing my sailing Atticus videos due to the ways of RUclips but now that I'm caught up, I'd like to say congratulations on having a beautiful baby girl and I wish you all the happiness you can handle. The positivity of your videos is a relief compared to the doldrums of the world. Keep up the good work. Much love to all of you.
We took our 3 month old daughter sailing for two months in Prince William Sound, Alaska in 1988 on our 30 foot Columbia sloop. A micro washing machine wasn't an option then so our solution was to bring cloth diapers since we had no place to get rid of disposable diapers. When she had a poopy diaper I would tie it to a light line and drag it behind the boat for a while then soak them in a bucket of salt water with soap and only used fresh water for the rinse. We did the same thing with our clothes. It worked okay though we looked like a floating laundry service when we were anchored. Thanks for the video. Good luck on the next leg of your adventure. Sail On!
Isa is adorable! Just like Oso! You two are very lucky.
You guys are rocking it everything looks like it’s doing good. You guys are always so fun to watch.🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉
Fragilay😂😂😂😂
And such a beautiful smile ❤️❤️❤️❤️
wow, congratulations. you’re all now a family of 3. again congratulations. just like my fifth granddaughter , smiling face is beautiful
Great install of that washer , Jordan
Very cool!! She is the cutest baby 🥰
Or connect to both hot and cold with a selector valve. Hot water for poop and barf, cold for regulars.
Success! Now thats a game changer! Isa is so stinking cute! That smile says it all!
I'm so glad 😊 you finally have a washer and dryer to make boat living less stressful.
Loving your episodes. You 3 are great people.
Just a thought, but for your 'door' on the new washing machine, what about a fold down door that would also be a table? Not to mention it would keep clean clothes off of the toilet. Just a random rambling 😁
It is always the small things that are so much fun. You also have a great chance to teach Issabela multiple languages as she grows! Children learn things so much easier than us, plus she will be able to learn so much about the world that other children will never see. Issabella will be a Child of the world.
Put a brass barbed fitting in the line where you put hole. Will be a pretty good fix for a while till your ready to take on replacing the whole hose if you wanted. I’d leave it on a car forever but on a boat new hose probably
Well done Jordon. Simple pleasures often makes life so much easier. Happy baby, happy life......isn't that how it goes?❤
I like how you closed the video doing the "daddy dance."
Great episode! Nice install, Jordan!👍👍
Awesome vid, all the comforts of HOME! Exceptional install.
See, we told you. Everything will be okay! You guys were just going through the initial panic stages of being new parents, it happened to all of us. OMG, WHAT HAVE WE DONE.😳😳😳. Loving that smile!
@Sailing Project Atticus, I don't know how far ahead you are but instead of replacing the hose, consider installing a straight hose connector. Installing a barbed connector into that coolant hose will outlast the hose. Heat the hose before you install, and you can even use a slightly larger connector than ideal (ie. metric not standard). Boroscope in a hose---BRILLIANT!!! Thank you for that one! I will for sure use it at some point.
Washing machine will be a game changer. I’m jealous
Isa is such a cutie and so happy.! She is so adorable! Awesome install on the new washer/dryer. You are a good dad and husband Jordan! Cheers!!
What a beautiful smile !
She is just precious !💖
Bet you never thought you’d be so excited to watch a washing machine.
Washing machine is so cool ... beautiful baby and your world is more in Harmony with making it work on the boat ... so happy for you both ... eagerly awaiting your next video ... thank you RUclips for these two great people who inspire us ...😊😊
Isabella is sooooo cute and Captain Oso seems to be taking everything in stride. I think Isabella needs a water maker Daddy! Have a great week y’all.
Great job Jordan. I learn so much from watching your projects.
2K+ subscriber LIKE; 13,088th desktop shipmate view... here we go. "More Malta, please." Appreciation and gratitude for the 'little conveniences'... good move.
You've now upgraded your 'boat' to a 'luxury yacht'.
And that is how raising a child starts. One step at a time. This is big win for you guys. Congratulations
Nice addition. Side note. One advantage to your blog is a video history for your daughters future. Most parents have a few photos of there children or maybe a video or two (for even fewer a 8mm film strip or VHS /Beta tape or two). Your family will have an extensive video history for them to look back on and share with there children. Wish I had the same for my children and grand children, as well as your parents ability to watch there grandchildren's growth.
Man Jordan and fam, you guys are a tremendous inspiration. Great job.
That little smile change my day 😍😍😍
Just a tip from a family who used to run their washing machine water into an open sump pit/pump in our house's crawl space (to avoid septic system overload)! I highly advise non scented laundry detergent (& biodegradable). The degrading perfumes in scented detergents can become pretty rotten smelling. Switching to non scented did the the trick for getting rid of the stink. Enjoy your new machine...and Isa smile!
Using that scope was brilliant.
Nice job !
Congrats! You did it!
I have heard of people removing dishwashers to install a washing machine because of kids - it makes a huge difference, even if that is a tiny one!
First of all your baby is adorable, but I didn’t expect anything less with such beautiful parents. I love her smile. I’m a grandpa of 14 so I know what a cute baby looks like. Lol. But Jordan I wanted to direct this comment mainly to you and let you know that I can completely relate to you doing things like drilling through the coolant hose and drilling the Holes 1 inch too low and other little things but what I admire most, is that even though you recognize that you’re not an expert on any of this stuff, you endeavor to just do some research and jump in with both feet, figuring it out as you go. I’m the same way and I make mistakes and I spend more in materials but at least then I know how to fix it next time and I get the satisfaction of knowing that I did this. I made this. I built this. So I commend you I congratulate you I applaud you and I thank you.
we had the same problems when we lived on our boat in the late 70's early eighties! How lovely for you both! Congratulations! 🤩🥳👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👌
Way to go guys!!❤ Nice job mate, looks excellent 👍.
And I get a 88 minute nap 😂
You guys are awesome
Great Job installing the WM. And I think your skills should tackle the wood trim You got it !
Nice addition-installation to your boat home but suggest considering a sump box (like a shower sump) rather than dumping the funky water - soap into your bilge will cause smells and perhaps cause the float-bilge pump issues. Just a thought...
A washing machine is vital for you, I guess short term cruisers would really appreciate one too, with some new trim and foldown front it will look an original luxury feature. Can you organise holding tanks and separate pump, that way the grey water won't sit in the bilge and you can choose when to pump it out?
Wow guys I totally understand what you are saying I can't stand doing laundry but have a washing machine is a must when you have a baby on board, you guy's seam to be do everything just right, baby isabella is growing fast she has Jordans smile, mom's eye's it's just got more exciting watching jordan installing a new machine we'll done bud keep having fun, I can't waite until ya'll on the move again, be safe out there ❤️
I love boatwork with Jordan! Too bad the Big Guy isn't still there. He could trim out that washer to perfection! Love Isa's smiles ❤️
Exactly what I was thinking. The Big Guy left a little too early. What a great resource.
It’s great to see Isa now a little baby rather than newborn…beautiful wee lass.
YOU DID IT!
As a landlubber father, I think of all the nappies to clean, so this is the most necessary item for parenting while sailing! Modern power technology makes it possible!
Polar Seal installed one even w/o a baby, while another famous sailing family decided against it - they rather add a third hull :(
Patch the coolant hose hole with a short length of slightly larger hose sleeve and polyurethane sealant, then hose clamps. That will safely buy time until you source replacement hose.
Here’s an idea, make a panel in front of the washer that pulls down to make a shelf to fold laundry on keeping it off of the toilet. When done it just folds back up and hides the washing machine.
Ooooo! I love this idea!
I think it was last week I made a comment about the real necessity of being able to wash your clothes (well, primarily diapers), so my fears are allayed. looks like a neat little unit, and I think it's going to get a lot of use. Daily. A very wise choice.
When he said frag i lay box made me smile 🙂
