lons channel is interesting to me because he seems like a consummer/enthusiast that happens to have a youtube channel, rather than guys that fancy themselves celebrities selling us stuff or influencing our purchasing decisions. Just a good ole dude!
I found Lons show because he was the only one the reviews a lot of the low end stuff. Many tech stuff only really covers the high end and that is not helpful when you are looking to stuff for kids.
I agreed. His video really does help me a lot when I was deciding whether i should buy this or not, and also its so true that he is in a very experienced consumer point of view, that really inspire me. And i also try my very best to make a overview video of my new fire10 bought in Black Friday lol. Hopes someone can have a look of my new trials and give me some advice😀. Btw, i am really enjoying this tablet, having some great time with this tablet these few days lol.
Just before watching this video, I watched one from 2017. The improvements in your presentation and the video and audio quality of the channel are striking. Keep it up. One of the best tech channels for sure. And if asked, yes I think it is my favorite.
Wow, this actually makes the Fire HD 10 a compelling option. I might buy this for my father and put the Play Store on it. Lon really does have a great channel, he provides a lot of content that is overlooked by most channels.
be careful we've gone this route and rooting in the Play store with some of our other Fire tables, it's very unstable and apps crash a lot. Amazon makes it very tough. If they would just put it in normally such a shame. we're switching over possibly to the Nook tablets because of this. Similar price, and specs plus the full Google Play Store.
I've installed the Play Store on our current HD 10 (and HD 8) without a problem. (You're not "rooting" the device - that's totally different.) You download and run three APK files. It's really pretty easy. Some of the Google services will update themselves, which can take a little time and appear to make things unstable for a bit, but after ten or fifteen minutes (and, I think, a reboot) it settled down, and everything works great. This was necessary for us because the Amazon App Store doesn't have the RUclipsTV app, which we subscribe to. I was also able to install Excel and Word and other apps you can only get in the Google Play Store.
I like the option to turn this into the Echo Show from time to time. I live in an apartment and I'm not into the IOT devices such as lighting. I also have no need for a security system so I would like to use the Show in the kitchen for recipes. I would also like to take advantage of a calendar as I am a caregiver of sorts for two seniors. Many doctor appointments to keep track of now, unfortunately. I will check this out with a couple other reviewers to see what they have to say about it, though you have always been my most trusted source. Thank you for the review.
These are on sale right now and thought about getting it for a cheap portable emulation machine, so thanks for covering that in the review. Looks like it performs pretty well.
I have been using the 2017 model but ordered the 2019 a few days ago. They actually are good devices. I use it for RUclips, RUclips TV, kindle, podcasts and pretty much just media. For my purposes it is great.
I'm using the old version of fire hd10, paid 100 bucks and I'm using it for one year now. I couldn't get a better tablet for that price. I'm mostly using it for school things, such as using MS Office programs, presentations and even using Excel on it.
I still use my 2017 often. It still runs so well i dont see a need to upgrade yet, but this does look like a nice upgrade. I put google play on my 2017 as well. Having both stores makes the amazon tablets really nice.
I own one, have had it for a couple weeks now, its pretty neat for its price. The display is actually good, it lacks that saturation you might get from a samsung or apple product but the pixel density is nice and 1080p videos do look crisp! Wifi is fast, i disabled adds and most amazon services through third party means and most apps have been alright for me. I usually use it for youtube, web browsing and music. if you want a powerhouse like video editing, etc its not for that. Hell i even upgraded it to 128gb and it hasn't disappointment me.
I got a Lenovo Tab 4 10 Plus for $100 on sale. Since they no longer provide updates I installed Lineage OS with android 9 and it kicks ass - no more att bloatware to slow it down.
As usual, an excellent review! I'd like to add a few things. First, this is the first Fire HD whose OS is based on Android 9, a.k.a., "Pie." I mention this because the software is still a bit glitchy. Most notably, at least to me, is that it's a bit flaky when it comes to micro SD cards. Amazon tech support recommended SanDisk FWIW. Another, related, thing is a bug that causes books and magazines downloaded to an SD card to be deleted if you charge the tablet to 100% overnight. It's happened to me several times before I figured it out and if you check out the one-star reviews at Amazon most of them are about this problem. Amazon is aware of the problem because, frankly, we let them know about it and I'm assured that they are working on it. In the interim, I'm charging the HD 10 to about 90 percent during the day. So far, so good. I agree with you that this version is noticeably faster than the 2017 version. It's a lot more responsive. I even like the new colors more. Hopefully, Amazon will resolve the SD card mishigas soon.
I actually have the 2019 fire hd tablet. One of the upgrades they made by changing the port to type c is fast charging. Don't take my word just check the specs on the Amazon's site.
@@twe8k Why are you being such an ass? You contradict yourself in here telling one guy the tablet is disappointing and telling the next its great. The tablet does support fast charging. It comes with a 9W charger. Standard chargers are only 5W.

Can anyone confirm if this particular model can be unlocked, rooted, and run Lineage? I know older models can, but I haven't seen any info on whether this one can or can't yet.

I found out that compatibility is an important issue with Amazon tablets. I wanted to run the Tablo app for TV viewing but found that the Fire HD 10 inch tablet was not compatible with the Tablo app. My Fire HD 8 runs the Tablo app just fine. Tablo said they do not support the Amazon tablets but might begin doing so. I presume Tablo has to provide apps for their devices, so their support is key.
I’m sorry but all I get when I turn in my grandkids tablet Hd 10 is a set lick screen pin required, which I thought we’d done yesterday. Again, no wifi options.

To transfer files from your PC to the 2017 Fire 10, just plug the USB charging cable into the PC and copy and paste. This simple process doesn't work for the 2019 Fire 10. When you plug the charging USB cable into the PC, none of the Fire file structure shows up. In order to copy the files now, you must EACH TIME, first plug the USB cable into the PC, then go into Settings > Connected Devices > USB [Which only appears when the cable is plugged in] & select File Transfer. There doesn't seem to be any easy way to make the 2019 Fire switch to File transfer when plugged into a [low power device] PC.
I've got the previous version and I found the battery life pretty poor compared to more expensive tablets. Is the new version a larger battery especially considering the higher performance? USB Type C is a nice improvement and mini/micro USB should be illegal on devices in 2019+ ;) other than that I think they should do a 4GB model instead of extra storage 2GB is simply not enough anymore IMO. It's so close to being an Ipad killer for most people for general use with some minor upgrades... it make no sense to me business wise.
RobotPorter and @jimmy L121 that is what I thought but he said is a was a regular port with and that it was not fast charge compatible. So was not 💯 sure

Put back Deep Space 9 on! 🤣 great practical review though. 👍👍🤣
Let me highly recommend the Amazon Fire Toolbox.. for getting Play Store onto the Fire... It makes it so a novice can do it..
Amazon website says it charges faster ? And it’s a a 9 watt charging brick. You sure it’s not any faster then the predecessor?
The new HD 10 can use a fast charger. But you have to buy one separately. It only comes with a 9 Watt one.
Comes with a 9-watt charger but you can charge it faster with a PD (Power Delivery)15-watt charger.
RobotPorter and @jimmy L121 that is what I thought but he said is a was a regular port with and that it was not fast charge compatible. So was not 💯 sure
"Would a PS4 controller work on the Amazon Fire 7 tablet?" or just the older controllers?"
