I'm a pro musician, and have owned a top flight studio over here in England for the last 25 years. In my opinion, if you're looking for a budget to mid priced guitar you should consider Yamaha, Yamaha, or, possibly, Yamaha. The Ibanez is really good, but in my experience, nothing is as good as a Yamaha for price vs quality. Although I find the older Korean made ones to be better

The Yamaha FG800 is a remarkable value at 199.99 or 229.99 - I've seen it listed new at both prices at different retailers. Great sound, playability, durability and aethstetics.

Yamaha FSX 800C is a winner.
I also own a Ibanez AW54CE. Slightly over $300 but beautiful warm tone with strong low tones.
I guess it's all subjective but I prefer warm as opposed to bright.
If you have a larger budget than $300, the Yamaha AC1R is really tough to beat. They run around $649.
I'll put that guitar against pretty much any sub $1500 guitar I have played.

Great video, I agree that higher end Yamaha's are of quality construction and startlingly good sound. I'd throw the Yamaha FG840 in the best under $300 category though. I went to the music store to look at a vintage Guild OM, and picked up Yamaha 840 before going into the high end guitar room just because it was pretty. It had a solid top scalloped bracing abalone inlay and most of all, flamed maple back and sides (bright and loud). I played it for a bit and was amazed, then played a series of new and vintage Gibsons, Martins, Guilds and Taylors. I ended up leaving the store with a 300.00 Yamaha that has since become my daily player. It continues to open up as I play it and holds a tune better than any guitar I've ever owned. My only complaint is that they should have used a bone saddle and nut that would yellow with age if they are using ivory (not white) binding

I went expecting to buy a high dollar Taylor or Martin, and after trying all the guitars of my interest, I walked out with a Yamaha FGX800c similar to the last guitar in this video. I could see the quality in the neck and warmth right away. When you listen with your ears and not the price tag it's funny what really is the best guitar for the money. Had the money ready to expecting to pay $800-$1200 for the sound I wanted, but with the yamaha I paid $299. Sounded much better than the Taylor 214ce and fender 140ce. Yamaha had caught up with the other names for sure.

    Just a word of caution.
Some of the Yamaha FSX800C guitars come prestrung with D'Addario EXP 11 strings.
Those are not the best for this guitar. Way too tinny sounding.
Most come with Yamaha FS50BT strings from the factory.
These are much better but are a bit costly to replace (around $15 a set).
To save some cost, I have switched to D'Addario EJ16 Phosphor Bronze.
It's a great compromise and run around $7 a set.
I'll still occasionally throw on a set of the Yamaha strings.

I just watched this video, I like the price range that you offer. Especially like the Yamaha FG JR. We live in Corpus Christi, and our only decent place for guitars is Guitar Center. Like your Yamaha FG Jr they have the same package for $35.00 dollars more. We have a young son, and interested in playing. Bought a cheap Rougue just to get him starter, and it still a little too big for him. Our son really likes playing, and we are very interested in purchasing the 3/4 scale guitar from Yamaha. Thank you for the input.

Thanks for the video and the comparisons of the 10 different guitars. A few of those guitars are available at a music store not too far from me. The only problem for me is that all these guitars are for right-handed players. I play left-handed. Your store only lists four guitars for left-handed players and none of them are amongst the 10 featured in this video.
The music store not too far from me has about 1100 guitars for right-handed players and 150 for left-handed players and most of them are special order (ie. they are not normally in stock). For under $300 (US) I picked up an Alvarez RD26L acoustic (as a special order) and I'm considering getting a Takamine GC1LH classical (also not normally in stock). I also have to pay just a little more for the left-handed model vs. a right-handed version of the same guitar. I'm not sure why as I would think there is little difference between a left-handed and right-handed guitar other than volume of sales.

Listening to these budget-line guitars that sound surprisingly good reminds me that it's not so much the instrument, rather the player. One can tell the difference but they are not hard to listen to, like some cheapoid guitars. There is a difference between inexpensive instruments and cheap ones.

Thank you so much for your video. I had gone through many of videos here on youtube, but seemed to like your presentation. I went to a Music store to help buy a guitar for a friend. I have been playing the guitar for some time and pretty much knew what to look for and what sound I wanted to hear. We both agreed out of all the guitars the Ibanez sounded the best, He ended up buying the Ibanez 3/4 guitar.
I liked the guitar because of the sound, but in short the narrow neck is great for a beginner. I also liked the way the strings were close to the frets, something to consider for a beginner. We also went with the intentions of buying the guitar you like out of the display section, NOT lets ge you a brand new one from the back. You buy that guitar, the very one you played with fingerprints and all. The sound? Described as a 'Vintage Vibe', and a 'Nice Deep Tone to it' but I have to describe it as a very rich warm tone to it. When we got back to my place I gave it a quick tune and started with a finger picking arpeggio and my friend stopped me played and asked if I was humming along with the melody? I answered 'No' and he replied that it sounded like I was humming along with the tune. It happened again, and he stopped me, I answered it must be the way the guitar is made.
Recap; For a beginner... Best guitar for the price and sound. A very warm sound, not that 'twang' or string sound but a rich and warm sound to it. Easy to play with a narrow neck and strings close to the frets. Buy the guitar you played not a new one from the back. Out of all the stores in the Denver area I could only find one store that carried the Ibanez and that was 'Guitar Center in Aurora CO. There is also a 'Guitar Center' in Fountain Valley CA. Maybe a store near you.
Thanks again great video! Great Guitar!

Idk. I am a Yamaha fan as well but it recent years, they don't seem to dominate the cheaper market anymore. Even small bodies, you have Ibanez Alvarez, Mitchell, Washburn and great ones like Bristol, some recording king's, etc that tbh in many ways surpass Yamaha. There are so many more companies that make really good guitars in this range, I will say that Yamaha are probably more consistent than many. Bristol tho, I am amazed at what they do with laminate woods and plastic components. They get slept on alot

I bought a Yammy A3R, and sadly it wasn't under the 300 bucks, nevertheless it is a beautiful guitar to play...well it should be given it is a tad over 1200AU bucks. I did play a lot of cheaper Yammys around the 300 mark, but on looking for new acoustics, there was something missing, which I couldn't figure it out, even for putting all those guitars through the best acoustic amp available in the respective instrument shops. Then one day I decided to go to a local store near me...and funnily enough, picked up a guitar i am sure I saw before there, picked it up, the store assistant put it through front of house on the shop PA sytem and I was sold on it...it is the sound I didn't notice before when I did that...only problem with this beautiful guitar, it and the guitar case together is very heavy to carry around. But I will put up with that for any good sound...but now on the lookout for a travel guitar with a similar sound for busking...still looking for that...some have come close to the sound of my guitar and not too bad a price either...the travel guitar will go through my busker's amp, a Roland Cube Street, and leave the A3R for all the gigs...

Wow. That first one sounds awfully good. It could be the great Blue mic your using though.

a classical guitar lesson get you to stretch your fingers, recognize guitar music (not tablature), and play music that is different from strumming pop tunes and teaches you to play bass and treble lines together with both hands... and at 'open mic' nearly no one can play a nylon string guitar at all...

I think the Alvarez Artist Series AD60 is a better guitar than all these on his list. It has a solid top, bone nut and saddle and sounds very nice.

Thank you for doing a great job explaining features and differences in guitars. Would you assist me to find a guitar that looks and sounds like the old 62' "Martin drednaught"? I can not afford the "real deal" but would be satisfied with a knock off.

      Well..how about it?😀
      I would like a 1962 Martin knockoff too..think you can get one for say...ohh..under $500?? Ok...even a grand??
      What about it??
      We WILL be waiting...😬

    Hello!
I'm planning on acquiring a new guitar for future gigs and covers and I was wondering if you have any guitars to recommend!
I'm looking for smaller guitars (15/16 or 3/4) which have decent/good electronics and balanced tone.
    Budget-wise, preferably below 700USD :)
Thanks for the great content and keep it coming! 😁👍🏻

I have a question for you guys at Alamo Music. Which is the better quality electroacoustic guitar: Fender Sonoran or Ibanez Talman? I'm actually surprised that the Ibanez Talman didn't make your list which is why I'm curious on which of the abovementioned two guitars is better overall. Thanks, guys!!
