mine is when you tell someone about a story and they wait till you are done to tell you "oh, that's just like [piece of media]!" and the piece of media in question is not similar at all.
this is why I never tell people i'm a writer 😆nor share my ideas with anyone. However, my well chosen friends all try to be helpful and listen / ask questions and hype me up. It's only very few people who will do that for others though so it's still a sad thing. I love the face cam podcast version, but I don't mind either way.
I really like this video format! ^^ For your second pet peeve about plotting, I might have an idea: create two different plotting docs. With one plotting doc, you explore one option, and with the other plotting doc, you explore the other option and find out which works best for you! Sure, it takes a while to do but maybe it'll help :) And I'm also a mood writer, I get the struggle 😭 What I usually do to get past it is to write down any book idea I get, make Pinterest mood boards and Spotify playlists, brainstorm about it, but I avoid plotting or actually writing the story idea. I kinda make myself the promise that I'll write that book idea only once my current WIP is done
Love video format! :) nice to see you! and sure, I hate how one of my friend is dismissive about my book(s) ideas, or doesn't seem to listen like you said. :') but I do have a couple of creative friends who are listening and it's nice.
That last one... I knew a person who talked and talked about his bookSERIES (5book) and I asked how much he had already planned/plotted (I was really curious bc he sounded like he had a lot planned) he said he doesn't need to plan/plot bc he can just imagine the scenes and then write it... I didn't even know what to say xD And he planned to publish 5 book fantasy series lol. Also with the last one. This is kinda sad, but my mom had a story idea like for 15 years(she is not a writer) and one day she just said that she can't write it bc someone else published book with similar idea. I could't say anything, like I was sad that she threw her idea away because of that...
relate to all of these HANDS DOWN. I've complained to people about writing book (when I'm at my hardest times.. burnout/writers block/plot holes, etc) and they're always like "oh it sounds so easy tho! i mean you just write" yeah, i *just* write.. definitely don't construct and create worlds and characters from scratch, while maintaining an interesting and steady plot line, trying to avoid any plot holes possible.. yeah I *just write* the audacity people have sometimes 🙄 but going along with your first pet peeve, am I the only one who doesn't share my book with anyone? I mean I'd love to, but I just feel so awkward and I'm so scared they'll think I'm weird.. idk?
Bro, I also like the visual version a lot more. Okay first one, I don't like telling people about my books because one I'm self-conscious and two, they wouldn't listen. They'd listen, but they're not listening.
I love the video format! Tbh I understand both sides of the not listening pet peeve. It's really hard for me to actively listen to something I don't understand or just don't like. Like if someone was talking to me about a video game, I wouldn't get anything. How am I really supposed to maintain attention? I try, but it's hard. But I also get how soul crushing it is to physically see someone not care whatsoever about something you're so passionate about. It just sucks
Tbh i prefere the face cam podcast - idk why but it feels more like a conversation?! :) And I feel the whole „i spend so much time on this and that - what if its just wasting time“
Also I like your glasses. The crossroad thing is annoying, if you choose one and you go with it, then you start writing or you're reflecting on your writing, and you just start wishing you went the other route. But then you may be a little lazy too fix it in that moment, so you tell yourself that you'll change it later but then later comes and you don't. Until you actually have to, maybe you just shelve that book too. Leaving a scene halfway and coming back to it ... and you realise why you left it. Yeah, that's way too relatable.
aah i just saw this! i like this video format though! These are so relatable too, i'm attempting to write a sort of dystopian fantasy(?) if that even makes sense- just dystopian with magic ig and only one of my friends cared :,) this also isn't really a pet peeve but i struggle with reading and writing at the same times bc i mix up the plots even if they are totally different- that's also why i dont/can't read more than one book at a time lol.
I love the face cam. My husband is the best at listening. He even will “help” me come up with ideas when I feel stuck. And by help, he comes up with an absurd plot id never use lol. But talking it out always help me figure things out.He even proof listened to my audiobooks to help me out because I didn’t have the time. But he doesn’t read my books anymore. He’s not a reader. And he’s also not my target audience lol.
to the first thing: I have one friend with who I basically share everything. I‘m really happy that she supports me with it. (But she’s also a writer and we kinda support each others projects) I accepted that my best friend or my sister aren’t really deep fans with me talking about my storie. They kinda like hearing about little parts tho for example looking at my Pinterest boards or hearing the really basics of my bookplot or a special scene
ohmygoodness I'm so happy to hear someone talk about mood writing, I've never heard it described before so I thought I was the only one, it's definitely my worst writing trait!! 😪💀 if I even remotely like a new piece of media I either get inspired to work on one of my WIPS and can only focus on that one, or worse I get inspired for something completely new, it's HORRIBLE 🤣
A lot of those pet peeves really hit home! Especially about how lonely it feels and how hard it is to get support or have people in your life care or at least pretend to care when you open your mouth or try to show them your work. Always feels like writing isn't respectable unless you're a celebrity. I think this is actually why I really like channels like yours because I feel not alone? Sorry, weird parasocial stuff. I swear I'm not creepy! (Even if I really like to write about creepy ghosts.) Anyway, I really appreciated this video! Thanks a bunch for sharing!
I don’t have a problem with character names because I spent hours creating characters and I think and talk about them so much even if they are the most useless characters ever
i like the face cam podcast better, for some reason it’s more entertaining to me ! and for some reason i just like watching peoples face and expressions as they talk
I totally agree with being passionate and being sad and feeling stupid when others don't listen T.T I also think that them caring about us should make them understand that they should listen. I relate to random moments of doubt too T.T Also, I always listen to your podcast on RUclips so I prefer when we can see you ^^
what realy frustrates me is if I try to explain my story to someone but it sounds way better in my head. For me my explanation is dull compared to the acuacl story. I really want to talk about my book with someone but It's in my head and i can't show them yet because it's not done.
I think I prefer the audio versions. The video is a little distracting, at least for me it makes it feel less like a podcast. I relate to the second peeve a lot!
Hey im a bit late, but I just have to say that girl the first one came like punch, I mean I often listen to my friends works and hobbys, but when I try to talk about my plans and all, they just dont listen and i dont know why tho, anyways ty for the vid ❤
I've been watching your channel from some days now and I kinda need advice on writing. I am 14 years old and have a lot of ideas for a story I've been thinking of from a looong time now, and I'm afraid of some points really - I'm not an English native speaker so I'm afraid I might miss up with choosing cool and interesting words. - I feel like my story doesn't have that one special thing that makes it unique :/. - I'm afraid I'm to young to start writing. - I have school and I'm afraid I mustn't start anything now and wait till I finish college... Sorry if I'm asking to much and it's mostly me the one who's supposed to know these things ... but I don't 😅, and I thought I should maybe ask an expert 😌
I know that im not Ana but these are just some of mine opinions. For the english words im also not native but i use a synonyms vucabulary i find on google and that normally helps. For the one special unique thing... I think that you should just write and when you are finished you will probably find many stuff that are unique tho im not sure if you are a panser or plotter but if you are in the middle then it should work. You are NEVER to young to start. You just have to have hope and patience to start. For school i think if you balence them then it would become easier maybe you would only write on weekends. Just make a small writting schedual when you write and how long do you write. Once again im sorry im not Ana but hope some of these helped atleast a bit.

Pet peeve #1 is why I don’t tell people about my book 😅 literally crushing for people to either not listen or not like it.
