The problem with having consistent stewards every race is it wont take long for at least 1 team to accuse them of bias and that'll be the tone for the season. At least with changing stewards, no driver or team can feel targeted. Also its a huge commitment to ask stewards to travel for the full, ever expanding calendar of races

    • @ramarkble101

They do not need to travel they could do it from a control room ad the FIA headoffice or at FOM. Just like the teams have a control room for the strategy.
Problem still is that you want stewards from countries that not have drivers on the grid.

The crazy thing is Norris will never come close to Charles. I bet even Max knows it, Lando literally can not overtake max if it would save his own life. Charles been getting poles in cars that didnt deserve it. Modern day Jean Alesi. While lando can not even even hold pole with a rocketship. Give Max, Ham, Lec or maybeee even Alanso that mcalren and see what they do. All the haters about Charles just takes about 22. Yea he maybe messed up 3-4 races with himself. But the team lost him that championship not Charles. Kind of like if Lando won the championship this year. Max did not lose it Red Bull did.

Driving guidelines do not need changing. Tracks need changing!! If it is possible to drive 30 feet off the track and gain an advantage that is the fault of track design. It would be very simple to have a strip of grass or gravel at the edge of the circuit to penalize track limits, problem solved.

    • @andrewbragg504

    • @philparker1278
      @philparker1278 Месяц назад +4

@@jim-xt7bo EXACTLY…. this seems to be lost on most spectators.
Max is smart he has spotted that you can effectively misuse the regulations - use them NOT in the way intended.
He has realized that any time he gets attacked on the outside he just needs to race to the apex WITHOUT any concern for keeping his vehicle under control and able to keep his own car within track limits.
He needs to judge it so that he does not brake so late that the other driver can do the switch back on him. But providing he keeps the other driver along side, he can race to the apex, releasing the brake if need be, and then just run both he and the other driver off track
That’s obviously not the intent of the regulations/guidelines but as they are, and as they are currently being refereed, this is what it allows Max to do.
Personally, I think they should change it to be that the lead driver has to keep it on track and that regardless of who was in front at the apex, if the lead driver maintains position by running off track then he automatically has to give the position to the other driver.
Otherwise he’ll just keep running any driver off who attacks on the outside.
And BTW, yes, drivers do often run drivers off by squeezing them off while on a curve, but that’s part of the game, and they do have to at least keep the car under control.
Right now Max doesn’t even have to do that, thus making it far too easy to negate ANY chance for a driver to overtake on anything other than the inside (which he’ll always cover) or via a boring DRS overtake on the straight.

I'm not sure I agree with Ted's assertion that Sainz was Ferrari's form driver in Austin.
Sainz was very fast and, yes, he overtook Leclerc in the sprint, but Leclerc admitted to over-managing his tyres in the sprint and felt he had a lot more performance in the tyres than he anticipated.
I think what we saw is a period Leclerc is going to where he is learning to really optimise his tyre management for the race.
He is now one of the top 3 drivers on the grid with race tyre management but he is still perfecting his technique for bringing the tyres in and it can get him into a bit of trouble.
Over-managing his tyres was what lost him the Baku race as well. He brought in the tyres too gently and overestimated how easy it would be to overtake Piastri but I don't think we'll be seeing him makes those mistakes much anymore.

    • @virtualwanderer
      @virtualwanderer Месяц назад +1

In Austin Sainz was arguably better than Leclerc. His first stint had him stuck behind Max with hotter tires and higher degradation. Second stint he was faster than Leclerc reducing the gap to 4.5s in 2nd at one point.

@@virtualwanderer Better drivers don't consistently finish behind the driver they are supposedly better than.
Sainz is a great driver but Leclerc always has a little more in his pocket and he did it again at Austin.
      Read my original post again.
The main reason why Sainz got ahead in the sprint was because Leclerc over managed his tyres. Same mistake as Baku.
After the Austin sprint he said he realised he could push the tyres harder which is what you saw in the GP.
PS. In almost every GP, the driver behind closes the gap in the final stint because the driver ahead has already done the hard part and just needs to manage the rest of the race.
Leclerc did the hard part better than Sainz: getting ahead, pulling a gap and managing tyres.

Max knows that under the present guidelines, if he is on the inside all he has to do is get to the apex first, even if the overtaker was well ahead at turn-in and he (Max) could not stay on the road on exit. So he is free in effect to run the overtaker off the road on the exit, even if he he also has to run off the road because he got to the apex at a speed that meant he could not avoid doing so. Lando was right to say that Max was not under control of the car, but he was in complete control and command of the rules. Ant Davidson was right to say that incidents such as this could not happen were it not for all those acres of bitumen runoff. COTA and other circuits would be improved by removing thousands of square metres of surplus bitumen.

Question Matt - should there be a line painted on the track that indicates the extended line of the corner apex? Austin T1 is a large-spaced acute turn and the apex is unsighted to the drivers for a large portion of time. It would be beneficial to drivers, stewards, teams, and spectators if the apex was clearly indicated so that disagreements of where a car is alongside/ahead, or not, would be clearly seen. McLaren obviously had a different view of where the apex was compared to the stewards! A painted line extended from the inside apex curb to the outside edge (and beyond) would help clear this up and make for transparency and consistency imo!
ALSO, when will RedBull see that their #2 driver is costing them constructor championship positions and that essentially they are gaining points only from one driver!???

DRS created 30kph overspeed for Lando. He then HAS to brake earlier/harder/longer than Max, so there's always going to be a correction as Max can brake 30m later. Max hits the apex and runs probably 30cm wide, even if Max manages to stay tighter by that 30cm, there's still no room for Lando. F1 drivers have been running guys out of track on the outside since forever, it's just a daft place to leave your car. Everyone knows you can't stick a move completely off the track too, imagine if they allowed it once, turn 4 at Brazil would end up being used like an oval. But a lot of this still comes back to DRS making guys sitting ducks. There have been examples where Hulk, Alonso, and Max have exploited the 'dark arts' to try and defend, it's really the only option at the moment. In the old version of F1, attackers picked up a tow, pulled out the slip stream relatively early on the straight, then slowly crept up over the straight, but usually did not end up going 30kph faster by the end of it. More often both drivers would be similar speeds going into the braking zone, leading to similar braking behaviours.
But, there's only 1 year left with this system, then it will switch to the MOM power boost system (which will be available for an entire lap after the detection zone) with active aero available all the time. There's going to probably be some wild gear ratios meddled with to support the top speed changes. The MGU-K will offer an energy boost up to 337kph for the attacker, while the defending car drops to zero boost energy for 290-355kph. There could be some strange speed differentials in odd places. I doubt any of the cars will be able to hold enough energy to deploy that boost for an entire lap. So the defenders will probably start to experiment with ways of hindering harvesting (which won't be the same system as now either) and ways of tricking the attackers into needlessly draining their batteries, it may end up taking a lap or two to fully recharge. You could end up with an MOM train with some drivers on full harvesting mode and others emptying the tank, all bundling into a hairpin, with a sitting duck at the front... All of them will need necessarily different braking points and distances.
So, the rules of engagement need to model the changes effectively to make the 2025 changes future proof. Guys like Max, Alonso, and Hulk will undoubtedly figure out some cute tricks with harvesting and deploying power that catch others out, which may create some wild speed differentials in odd parts of the tracks. They'll end up having to redefine everything all over again if they write the 2025 updates purely according to issues that seem partially driven by this DRS formula. Brown and Stella should start working on a Kleenex sponsorship now, they'll make bank over the coming years.

Looking at how Lando already went wide with steering in full lock and only relaxed the angle a little to get wider to avoid Max, one may wonder if he had been able to make the turn anyway with the speed he carried into the turn. The rules aren't perfect, but the teams agreed upon this, and know what situations it can evoke. Had Lando given back the position, Max might have gotten a penalty for dangerous driving instead, or Lando could have made a clean pass. He was gaining each round, so next round or so he probably could have been ahead at the apex and claim the corner beyond doubt

    • @ThmsDouglas

I don’t know what the various Academies are teaching the drivers but it seems to me that most pilots lack elementary knowledge about racing. Things like track limits and turn layout seem confusing even for F1 drivers.
Otherwise, there are 2 very well built and sufficient rules for passing there.
First the one Max spoke recently : Stay on the track.
The second says :first arrived first served - another well-established custom in the civilized world - meaning that first arrived car can choose ANY path prefers in that turns, the second must break and allow passage for the first. This is the same from karting to Fn, to F1. Sadly, all neophytes and seemingly many Formula drivers believe the turn start at the apex. WRONG! The turn starts where the white lines start to curve so there is the line that judges who is entitled to take which-ever path he considers suitable. The other(s) overlapping (even at 99%) but BEHIND must allow him to do so.
This part is very easy to policy, stewards have to watch just a few seconds and stop as in a photo-finish. Speed of arrival is irrelevant. The car on the inside has a shorter path to the apex so, if not slowed, it will arrive there first cutting the path of the entitled car, pushing it out or provoking a collision.
In this case, hard penalties should apply - as 10 seconds for pushing out-track, to last starter in next race if collision. Driver penalty points added. And “that’s all folks” 😜

Great analysis, agreed its in the rules, agreed its not what we want to see into the future if we want the drivers to actually race.

I like how you all actually know less than fans... how can you not know where to find the guidelines, they are on the damn website.

Kravitz: ...Texas... bull... horns... cowboys... bull horns... take the horns... the prancing ponies... bucking broncos... are broncos ponies? prancing bull broncos... grab the pony's bulls... oh let me talk for twelve minutes about meeting Sting and the fact that he is in shape - fascinating - Another cocktail Mr Kravitz?

Sounds more like sleep deprivation to quickly overcome jetlag to me 🤣 Unless he stayed in the Americas... Then it's just sleep deprivation.

If you're ahead at the apex because you're braking so late that you go out of the track, it shouldn't count. Because then nothing prevents other drivers to go outside the track, as long as you push another driver out, to avoid being overtaken. I think the stewards are very afraid to affect the championship, but that shouldn't be a consideration at all.

Yep and if that Ferrari is title contender and both Lewis and Charles have chance to win it they will be making Charles as bad as they was making Nico rosberg before when he was Lewis teamate especially if both Was have some controversial incidents

Hamilton will leave after 1 year and no success. It's not that he isn't capable, it's that he hasn't realised he doesn't care anymore.
